In light of recent times, and in an effort to ensure equity and access for our schools
in San Bernardino, Riverside, Inyo, and Mono counties, the majority of our
professional learning opportunities will be virtual. Below is a guide to help

participants navigate this booklet and identify which workshops best fit their needs.

TK-12 Site Administrator and District Liaison Network

This event series is for site administrators and district liaisons.
Each event will allow participants to receive updates around
AVID methodologies and increasing the AVID schoolwide
impact. It will also provide opportunity for networking and
time to connect with the RIMS AVID Coach.

FREE TK-12 Principal Training:
Critical Elements for Implementation

Critical Elements for Implementation is designed to support principals who
are new to AVID, or for principals who have not attended AVID professional
learning for a few years and are in need of a refresher. The learning will focus
on delineating what key elements principals need to know and own, rather
than delegating, for sustainability of AVID implementation. The focus of this
module is to provide leadership with an overview of The AVID College and
Career Readiness Framework and deepen their understanding of the AVID
Schoolwide Domains: Culture, Instruction, Systems, and Leadership.

This workshop will provide principals new to implementing AVID
Elementary with tools and resources that will facilitate a working knowledge

Coordinators

$300 New AVID Coordinator Series (3-4:30pm each day)

This series of monthly workshops will help New Coordinators
navigate the tasks associated with their new role. Each coordinator
will have an opportunity to review the CCI, systems of AVID, and
managing the AVID College Readiness System. This training is
highly recommended for all new AVID site coordinators.

This workshop series for all middle school and high school AVID
coordinators will be a support for continuing the growth of the AVID
College Readiness System at their site.

This series will provide RIMS AVID TK-8 teachers with
methods to facilitate more Writing to Learn, Inquiry,
Collaboration, Organization and Reading to Learn
strategies that could be implemented in both virtual and
in-person settings.

AE Essentials 6-part Workshop Series (3-5pm each day)

This is a six-part series on the components of WICOR. Each
session will be a two-hour, interactive training based on the
individual components of W-I-C-O-R. We will start with the
foundational pieces of AVID Elementary and review explicit
access to the Hidden Curriculum of organization of time,
materials, and thoughts.

AVID Elementary

$100 AE College and Career Readiness Workshop

This workshop will provide TK-8 teachers methods to
facilitate explicit implementation of college and career
focused lessons and activities. Educators will develop
lessons to build relationships with students, as well as
throughout their school culture, to achieve desired
student outcomes. Systemization schoolwide of College
and Career Readiness is key to educators reducing the
variability of the learning experience and ensure greater
equity for all students.

This workshop will provide TK-8 teachers with methods to
facilitate explicit critical reading strategies to support
comprehension and reading to learn to be implemented in
the classroom.

FREE AE Showcase

This virtual showcase is a requirement for sites/districts
that are considering implementing AVID Elementary for
the 2022-23 school year. Participants will learn how to
implement the AVID College Readiness System by hearing
from key site leadership and experiencing WICOR in
action from both a teacher and student perspective.

Secondary AVID Elective Teachers

$300 New Elective AVID Teacher Orientation (NEATO)
3-4:30pm each day

This series of monthly workshops is for new and second year
AVID Elective teachers. This monthly training will focus on the
main components of the AVID elective including: focused
note-taking, organization, tutorials, and team-building.

FREE Tutor Team Systems Refinement (Advanced)

This training is for tutorial teams (all AVID elective teachers
and all AVID tutors) to come together to review resources and
brainstorm systems to make tutorials stronger at their school
site. Time will be given for discussion, reflection of practices,
and creation of a school-site tutorial system action plan.

FREE Tutorial Updates Workshop

This training will provide all AVID elective teachers with information
regarding the updates to the tutorial process.

Junior/Senior Teacher Bootcamp Two Part Series

Junior Bootcamp will focus on an overview of the curriculum
covered junior year. Special emphasis will be given to
maintaining an AVID portfolio, increasing rigor in tutorials,
preparing for personal statement writing, best reading and
writing practices for college entrance exams, planning a
Junior Trip and more!

August 25th and October 5th

Senior Bootcamp is a training for new AVID 12 Elective
teachers. Topics covered will include analyzing students'
transcripts, the college application process, FAFSA/CADAA
and financial aid, financial literacy, testing updates, AVID 12
Weeks at a Glance curriculum and the transition from
Tutorials to Study Groups.

August 25th and October 5th

$350 The 6 C’s of Common Core - Foundational

(2-5pm each day)
This series is meant for teachers new to WICOR strategies.
Time will be spent connecting WICOR strategies to each of the
skills emphasized in the 6 C's of Education. Participants will
learn the Focused Note-taking system, marking the text reading
strategies, Socratic Seminars, Philosophical Chairs, and various
ways to support structured collaboration in the classroom.
Content Teachers who attend all 12 hours of training will be
considered fully AVID trained for certification purposes.

(2-5pm each day)
This workshop is for teachers who are well versed in foundational
WICOR strategies covered in the Foundational 6 C's of Common
Core. Participants will focus on building relational capacity,
structuring collaborative activiities that promote student
engagement and accountability, strategies for reading non-
linguistic texts, facilitating higher-level inquiry strategies, and
building 21st century lesson plans. Content Teachers who attend
all 12 hours of training will be considered fully AVID trained for
certification purposes.

$350 WICOR and Tech Tools (2-5pm each day)

This series will take participants on a digital walk through WICOR
(Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading). We
will introduce and explore a number of strategies and tech tools
that will bring WICOR to life in the classroom for both distance
and hybrid instruction. Teachers who attend all 12 hours of
training will be considered fully AVID trained for certification
purposes.

This training prepares teachers to implement the 5 Phases of
Focused Note-Taking. Participants will learn strategies to help
students take organized and efficient notes, engage in the critical
thought process, as well as interact and revisit their notes so that
they become a powerful and portable learning tool that students
can carry with them throughout their educational experience.

In this training, participants will learn and practice WICOR strategies
that will help students organize their time, thoughts, and materials.

This training will provide strategies for organizing notes, learning artifacts,
and other resources in a digital eBinder. Participants will learn strategies
and practice utilizing tech tools that can be shared with students in order
to maximize accessibility and collaboration.

November 4th

$100 Tech Tools in a Face-to-Face Classroom

This workshop will help support the integration of 21st century technology
in the traditional face-to-face classroom setting. Engaging and evidenced
based tools and strategies will be introduced and practiced both as a
teacher and participant.

This training prepares Math teachers to implement the 5 Phases of
Focused Note-Taking in their math classrooms.

AVID Tutors

FREE Tutor Training (Synchronous 8:30-11:30am)

This training is for first time AVID tutors. Part 1 of Tutor Training
is a 2 hour asychronous training that must be completed prior
to attending Part 2. Part 2 is a sychronous 3 hour session where
tutors will be provided an overview of their role as AVID tutor,
the tutorial process, the TRF, how facilitate inquiry and so much
more. Part 2 dates are lsited here:

Virtual College and Career Fair

SAN BERNARDINO

Cal SOAP, SBCSS, and RIMS AVID will be hosting a virtual
College and Career Fair for students. Students will have the
opportunity to hear from college and career representatives,
as well as, participate in college and career workshops.
