Everyday heroes have been front and center in recent months, Meals-on-Wheels Delivery,
as people across the community care for those most in need. Weekly Meals Delivered
Thanks to many supporters like you, LifeCare Alliance has
mobilized thousands of heroes to the streets and homes of 26,000
central Ohio’s most vulnerable neighbors to provide food and 24,000
basic needs support. While more acutely on display during the 22,000
pandemic, serving those in need is what our Agency has done
for 122 years – this is the heart of LifeCare Alliance. 20,000

A Letter to LifeCare Alliance Supporters

LifeCare Alliance’s founder, Catherine Nelson Black, noted in the original meeting minutes in
1898 that she founded our Agency, “to take care of those nobody else pays any attention to.”
This is our ultimate goal. When you combine her statement with our modern tagline, that we
are Nourishing the Human Spirit, well, we have said it all. It is our mission, and how we serve
our more than 30,000 clients, 365 days a year.

2019 was a great year, as we continued to serve all those in need without waiting lists. The first
half of 2020 has been an incredible challenge due to Coronavirus. COVID -19 presented a new
rush of seniors and medically challenged individuals in need. Once again, your agency stepped
up. Since March 1, the number of Meals-on-Wheels delivered daily has increased by 65%! Our
meal client numbers are up by 54%. Our pantry deliveries to those with active cancer and HIV
increased 52%. I am extremely proud to report that we have accepted all those in need, once again, without waiting lists.
In fact, home delivered meal service has generally started within 24 hours of the initial contact.

Prior to Coronavirus, we were one of, if not the only provider, in the top fifty markets nationally without waiting lists. I can
assure you we are now the only ones. In fact, a recent national survey concluded that 55% of programs nationally have
increased their waitlists, with many doubling or more. And, no waiting lists are for ALL our programs.

Yes, our forty dining centers were mandated to close, but many clients converted to home delivered meals. Our Meals-
for-Kids, which service urban daycares, went to zero for a few months—22 sites have now opened. And our L.A. Catering
basically stopped.

The incredible increase in meals and related services, coupled with the loss of our L.A. Catering business, placed a
tremendous strain on our finances. But, once again, YOU and OUR COMMUNITY STEPPED UP. Your generosity and willingness
to volunteer to deliver meals and pantry goods saved us, and allowed us to ACCEPT ALL IN NEED—THANK YOU!!!

All these efforts truly represent THE HEART OF LIFECARE ALLIANCE which is detailed on the following pages. YOU MAKE
ALL THIS HAPPEN, EVERY DAY.

In addition, you will recall that our goal was to increase our Agency endowment through our Legacy Endowment
Campaign to $20 million, which will provide $1 million in interest annually to fund clients for whom no funding exists. I
want to be able to serve all clients in need for decades to come. And, due to the incredible generosity of an anonymous
donor, the first $5 million in gifts to our endowment will be matched! This is truly an amazing opportunity, which has
drawn national attention and I am pleased to share we have achieved our $5 million goal. But, if you have not yet joined
this endowment campaign, do not be concerned, as our match will continue. I hope you will consider joining those who
have already made a multi-year pledge to our endowment campaign, like Kris and me. This is a great way for you to make

Your support of LifeCare Alliance is truly an investment in our community. AARP calculates that LifeCare Alliance saves
Ohio taxpayers more than $87,965 per year for each senior or medically challenged person we assist in remaining
independent and in their own home, which is where they want to be. This clearly makes LifeCare Alliance the best value
for your dollar!

All of this is accomplished every day through the efforts of our dedicated volunteers, staff and management team, board
members, supporters, and especially you. I am proud that LifeCare Alliance is in the homes and neighborhoods of our
local communities doing what we do best, Nourishing the Human Spirit. We need your help to continue to improve and

important milestone means that the Agency’s fully funded endowment

The Need

LifeCare Alliance continues to take all clients in need, with no waiting lists—but projections show that the growth in need
will outpace the Agency’s ability to meet the need, given current funding sources. Fundraising and social enterprise
revenues must continue to increase as traditional funding sources continue to erode.

Nutrition Services

Keeping central Ohio neighbors safe, independent,
and in their own homes — where they want to be!

Meals-on-Wheels

Meals-on-Wheels provides nutritious food and a daily visit to homebound older adults,
and individuals living with a medical challenge or disability, 365 days a year. Meal options
include hot, cold, frozen, specialty diet, kosher, vegetarian, pureed, and mechanical. In
fact, the cost of one day in a hospital equals the cost of ONE YEAR of Meals-on-Wheels.
The cost of one month of care in a nursing home equals providing Meals-on-Wheels for

Senior Dining Centers and Carrie’s Café

Open to the public, Carrie’s Café, our premiere Senior Dining Center, has been recognized
as a national model in congregate dining, providing socialization, enriching programming,
and nutritious meals. We operate over 40 Senior Dining Centers throughout central Ohio,
including culturally diverse meals at 11 Asian and Somali restaurants. For carry out orders

Groceries-to-Go

The Groceries-to-Go food pantry provides groceries, personal hygiene items, and
household cleaning supplies to clients of the Columbus Cancer Clinic.

Project OpenHand-Columbus

Project OpenHand-Columbus provides home-delivered, nutritionally enriched meals,
assessments, counseling, and congregate meals to men, women, and children living with
active HIV/AIDS.

Senior Farmers’ Market

Senior Farmers’ Market is a USDA-funded
program that provides coupons to older adults
(60+). Recipients are able to purchase fresh,
unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables,
herbs, and honey from partnering markets and
roadside stands.

LifeCare Alliance administers the program in
partnership with the Central Ohio Area Agency
on Aging in Franklin, Fairfield, Fayette, Licking,
Madison, Pickaway, and Union Counties.

Diabetes
Association The Central Ohio Diabetes Association provides high-quality education and programming
to support families navigating diabetes. Its signature camp programs, including Camp
208 Hamwi, welcome ages 3 to 17 from across Ohio to learn how to take control, connect with
a community of support, and to live well.

STEPPING STONES
& CAMP HAMWI The Columbus Cancer Clinic provides prevention, detection, support, and hope for
individuals battling cancer. Services include prevention education, early detection,

Community Wellness Centers
Wellness Centers
Wellness services provide healthcare through Community Wellness Centers, located in
2,372 areas where residents are underserved, have limited access to health care, or have limited
financial resources. Registered nurses and registered dietitians provide assessments, nursing
CLIENTS care, in-home diabetes counseling, and screening tests, with a focus on education, disease
prevention and management, nutrition therapy, and weight management.

VISITS
The Help-at-Home program provides personal care assistants and direct support care
Help-at-Home workers who assist with daily living activities, bathing, fall prevention, and basic household
chores. The Help-at-Home staff works with a network of community contacts to ensure that
38,470 clients can access appropriate services.

HOURS OF SERVICE Senior PetCare

823 The Senior PetCare program helps clients care for their
companion pets. The program delivers pet food and supplies

The Beat the Heat Fan Campaign provides
box fans to central Ohioans each summer,

IMPACT Safety

IMPACT Safety provides individuals with tools to increase their
confidence, awareness, and ability in making safe choices. The
program teaches interpersonal safety skills to a wide range
of populations, including women, youths, seniors, individuals
living with disabilities, trauma survivors, and professionals in the
workplace. Participants practice verbal, emotional, and physical
