Learn prayers

New Releases HEBREW THROUGH MUSIC | Grades 4–6

Introducing Hebrew in Harmony

A groundbreaking way to teach Hebrew prayer—through music.

Hebrew in Harmony is a three-year Hebrew curriculum for 4th-6th graders that uses
the power of music to engage students with prayer.
Long used to beautify the words and act of prayer, music creates a safe and
welcoming environment rich with opportunities for learning. Rooted in music,
Hebrew in Harmony encourages students to create meaning from personal prayer
and make emotional connections through communal prayer. And the flowing
words help students learn Hebrew through the music.
Educators can select from among 22 individual modules—each devoted to a
different prayer—and teach them in any order. Featuring music from today’s top
Jewish musicians, along with arts, movement, videos, and a full digital learning
experience, this multimedia curriculum invites students to learn to sing and pray in
Hebrew, as well as read, explore, and interpret prayer text.

“Finally, a curriculum that understands how “music speaks
louder than words”! It’s a powerful way to open paths of

connection with each prayer. I especially like that students
can reflect on intention and meaning through the music.”

—SHIRA KLINE ShirLaLa performance artist and Jewish educator,
Lab/Shul Director of Worship and Family Education

l Strong retention of Hebrew prayers. Setting Hebrew to music
creates long-term memories.

l Flexible. Reaches across various learning environments:
classroom, at home, distance, and across denominations.

l Meets broad array of learning needs. Addresses visual, aural,
and kinesthetic learners. No two lessons are the same, just as
no two students are the same!

l Versatile. Choose prayers that match your curriculum and
introduce them in any order.

l Interactive. The fast-paced, energetic learning reaches children
of all learning styles.

l Informal. Infuses the formal learning environment with some
of the informal elements of camp and youth groups.

l Easy to use. The curriculum is fully scripted and assumes no
music knowledge nor singing ability.

l Reflective. Mindfulness activities help students practice finding
meaning in prayer by focusing on their present experiences
and understanding the words they are saying.

WHY IT WORKS: CONTENTS:

l Research shows a link between music and emotion. Music boosts
morale and motivation. Students retain learning best when it is
associated with strong emotion and engagement.

l Music acts as a powerful memory device.
l Music is a strong—and primary—hook for cognitive as well as

affective learning.
l Singing in Hebrew makes it easier to articulate the words and helps

develop a proper pronunciation.
l Music adds joy and fun to Hebrew learning.

“As a former song leader, I learned the power of CURRICULUM CORE
using music as a learning tool very early in my VIDEOS
career. A curriculum like this that is multi-modal
and integrates music and kinesthetic, as well as
a range of approaches to tackling language and

meaning, is a welcome addition to the field.”

—ALISON KUR, Executive Director of Jewish Living
at Temple Beth Elohim, Wellesley, Massachusetts

FOR EACH PRAYER, THERE ARE THREE COMPONENTS:

l Student Journals—One 16-page journal per prayer.
l Curriculum Core—With fully scripted, timed lesson plans to

create dynamic multimedia lessons, student journal answer keys,
reproducible word cards, and song lyrics for the music included in
that module. Includes art, mindfulness, and movement activities.
l Digital Companion—Each prayer comes with its own videos,
downloadable music, Hebrew reading and recording for students,
teacher review and feedback options, games, and much more.

environment.

For adults we started a line of coloring books with Jewish
themes, and published Wise Aging, a mindful approach to later
years that is being used in study groups around the country.

And, at the risk of showing off bit, Behrman House was

these, in ordinary times, would warrant “dayenu.” That all are

us as together we educate the children of our community.
