Message from the Executive Director
The Paris Area Welcomes You!
Working together and growing
together. Let’s make 2018
another record-setting year!
Over the past four years, it has been my pleasure to lead the Paris Area Chamber of Commerce through
new visions and strategies. This year has been a record year at the PACC. We have reached record membership numbers and grown by 30 new members in 2017, having averaged 15 new members in prior years. This is a milestone worth celebrating. A new member equals new ideas, new enthusiasm, and new opportunity.
In 2017, Paris was chosen to receive the Trendsetter City Award for cities under 5,000 in population. This is an honor I am very proud of. This award was earned through the collaboration of City, Merchants, and the Chamber of Commerce coming together with one vision. It truly pays off when everyone works together.
PACC partners with the City of Paris to revitalize the downtown area and have made much progress over the last three years. The newest addition in 2017 was the completion of our Love Lock Fence in the Eiffel Tower Park, bringing tourists from all over the U.S. to visit Paris and place their lock on the fence. The Eiffel Tower Park received new additions with a kiosk to help visitors find their way around town, benches, tables, and umbrellas that are getting used daily. Merchants have received mini grants to update facades, a new mural has come to life, windows have been updated, new and existing businesses
have added new signage and beautiful awnings. These are just some of the projects completed. Merchants hosted a Dinner on the Square fundraiser in December that raised money for many downtown revitalization projects. Main Street Paris is working hard to make the heart of Paris the beauty it once was.
Coffee and Donuts is a monthly networking event we started hosting on the second Thursday of each month and I want to report it has been tremendously successful, thanks to you. A new member hosts each month and we are able to learn new information about this member. The community nominates a business of the month at each event and we celebrate the winning business at the following Coffee and Donuts. This has been a great way to recognize our outstanding members throughout the year.
The PACC is a member of the State Chamber, Fort Smith Regional Alliance, Western Arkansas Planning and Development District Board of Directors, Tripeaks Regional Tourism Board of Directors and involved with many local organizations as a way to keep Paris on the forefront of local, regional, and state level stakeholders. Growing the Paris area and looking for opportunities is a top priority.
The revitalization of our downtown offers new opportunity to host events in the heart of Paris. We were proud to introduce the

new Spring Time in Paris Festival hosted in April, the Frontier Day Festival hosted in October, and the Fall Festival also in October, all held on the downtown square in 2017. The community showed overwhelming support when we relocated the festivals downtown. We hope you will enjoy them for years to come.
Branding has been a task we have worked diligently on in 2016-2017. A major component of the brand evolution was the new chamber website. Introduced in 2016, the new site has resulted in a 57% increase in web traffic. Technology was further expanded to include a mobile site and we now link social media sites to each member’s page. Another component
of branding was our new Chamber logo developed in partnership with Main Street Arkansas. We are working to complete our branding in 2018.
I want to personally thank each volunteer, employee, sponsor, and supporter who has put their faith in our Chamber through their time, energy, money, and trust. As an organization, we are firmly devoted to the members and citizens of Paris and look forward to continued growth and success of the community in the coming years.v
Sincerely,
Tonya Baumgartner

Message from the County Judge
2018 is going to be an exciting year for the
residents of Logan County!
Cby the Honorable Ray Gack, Logan County Judge onstruction on a $10,000,000.00 Detention Center has begun, bringing in a lot of workers from
around the area. Completion of this project should be in mid-year 2019. This project will help make Logan County a better and safer place to raise our children and grandchildren along with providing a safer work environment for the employees. This Detention Center will have a Court Room inside which will free up the parking around the square allowing visitors to shop at the locally owned businesses or to visit our Farmers Market.
Bids on the $150,000.00 renovation project of the exterior of the Paris Court House should be going out shortly with work to start in the early spring. The Paris Court House at Christmas time is visited by visitors for miles and States around to
view the beautiful light display, decorated trees, and even Santa Clause. The Eiffel Tower located at the west side of the Court House is a tourist attraction year round and a must see if you are in the Paris area.
Bids for a $400,000.00 bridge project leading to the Jack Creek Recreation area will be going out shortly with work starting early summer. This will ensure a safer trip when visiting the Jack Creek or Knopper’s Ford Recreation area.
I would like to personally invite everyone to visit the many sights and recreation opportunities that Logan County has to offer.v
Sincerely,
Ray Gack

Message from the Mayor
Letter from
the desk of
the Mayor
Over the last several years we have seen our
city make huge strides in quality of life and downtown revitalization, while also being a leader in the state and country for cost of living. Our downtown has seen many improvements, to the construction of our Eiffel Tower Park, banners around our square, new benches, and love lock fence, to name a few. They all add to the beautiful courthouse in downtown Paris. We have committed $25,000 this year to continue our downtown progress as we work toward our goal of filling up our vacant buildings and strive toward more tourism for our beautiful area.
If you are looking for a city affordable to live in on any income, look no
by Daniel Rogers, Mayor, City of Paris
further than Paris. With water and sewer rates for an average home at less than ten dollars a month and free residential trash pickup, you won’t find a lower cost of living. Our parks and recreation over the last several years have made strides to further enhance the quality of life for residents of our community. We have added lighting to our walking trail at Wood Street Park and this year will add $30,000 worth of landscaping.
At our swimming pool at Veterans Park we will be adding a splash pad that will cost $315,000, as we are committed to a happy and healthy lifestyle for citizens.
I would like to invite you to check out our beautiful city and shops, and see for yourself the progress we have made working together.
Sincerely,
Daniel Rogers

Education
Paris School District
Welcome to Paris, Arkansas!
The Paris School District is located in the historical town of Paris, Arkansas which is the “Home of Mount Magazine”, the highest point in Arkansas. Paris is situated near the Arkansas River in the Ozark Mountains and is known for its beautiful landscapes, diverse industry, rich history, and the Paris School District. The Paris School District is the home of the Paris Eagles. Our District population is over 1,100 students Pre K-12. Our school is small enough for the home town feel, but large enough to boast some spectacular programs. Our schools consist of a Pre K Program, elementary K-4, Middle School 5-8, and High School 9-12.
Paris High School offers eight AP classes, offers concurrent classes through Arkansas Tech University and UAFS which allows them to get college credit. We have a #1 FFA program that is recognized across the state. Our sports are highly competitive. Our volleyball program is proud to have competed at state for the past five years. Currently, we are back-to-back state volleyball champions for the 2016 and 2017 school years.
Paris Middle School has a great group of students with a caring and encouraging staff. The students are proud of their community and search for ways to give back. The students proudly recognize our veterans each year at our Veterans Day Program. They also give back to the community by contributing to the Million Meals Program and Community Outreach. To keep our parents informed, students have created a monthly newsletter allowing us to keep our parents up to date on all happenings. PMS has an outstanding Mentoring Program. If you are interested in becoming a mentor to a great group of students, please visit the Paris Middle School. Their motto is "Passion is everything! Believe and achieve!".
Paris Elementary School is excited to add a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) class for our students in 2017-2018 school year. We also have a successful PTO program that benefits our students. Students at PES strive to do their best with encouraging teachers who focus on academic achievement while creating an environment that makes learning fun.
The Paris School District recently opened The Tyson Foods North Logan County Career Center on the PHS campus. The Career Center will allow student to receive concurrent credit classes through Arkansas Tech University. Some of the classes that will be offered include: Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Robotics, Electricity, Fluid Power, Welding, Metrology, Blue Print Reading, Semi-Conductors, and Digital Logistics.
Our District is proud to have a Wellness Center that benefits all students and staff. The Wellness Center is located on the Paris High School campus. The Wellness Center allows our students and staff to have access to health care during the school day. We also have a full time social worker who is able to work one-on-one with needy students and their parents.
The Paris School District is proud of all the accomplishments of our students, dedicated and committed faculty and staff. We welcome you to visit our schools, attend concerts, sporting events, and programs that our students are involved in. Any community is only as good as their schools. Paris has strong traditions that are rooted in hard work that perpetuates success. Come be a part of our success!
Sincerely,
R. Wayne Fawcett

Magazine Public Schools
Welcome to Rattler Country:
Moving to a new area is always challenging, especially when it involves looking for a new school that will meet all of the needs of your children. Magazine School District is proud of our dedication to excellence and helping students to adjust to new surroundings, while at the same time making them part of our Rattler family.
We are a school with just under 600 students K-12 where your child can experience an educational environment of a nurturing and caring staff while being challenged with a rigorous curriculum. We have a low teacher to student ratio, advanced placement courses, concurrent credit opportunities, and a career technical relationship with multiple tracks to prepare those students not interested in attending college after graduation. Our ACT Prep Academy has proven to benefit our students by preparing them for their college entrance with multiple students scoring over 30.
Our Rattlers are competitive with athletic programs including, football, basketball, cheer, baseball, softball, track & field, cross country, golf, and shooting sports. If your child isn’t interested in athletics we have something for everyone from band to drama, a very active FFA program, Quiz Bowl, and chess. Still haven’t found your niche? Then check out one of the multiple clubs we have to offer including, FBLA, FCA, BETA, High School Heroes, Student Council, FEA, and Reading Rattlers. We have successful and competitive teams in academics and athletics.
In today’s fast-paced society, it is critical to stay ahead of the curve and we have done just that here at Magazine. We offer the latest technology in our classrooms and utilize distance learning classes from Virtual Arkansas providing a larger variety of subject areas including criminal justice, abnormal psychology, multiple foreign languages, and many more.
Another great advantage we have for our students and community is our Wellness Center on campus offering medical, dental, mental health, and vision. These services have proven to be crucial for our students and parents in reducing lost seat time, lost work time for parents, and absences.
Magazine School District would like to invite you to join our educational family. We will work hard to meet the needs of all of our students and families. For a closer look at what we have to offer go to www.magazinek12.com.

County Line Public Schools
Home of the Indians!
County Line Schools are located in Branch, AR, on the Logan/Franklin county line 12 miles west of Paris on Hwy 22. County Line Schools have been providing a quality education to students since 1950.
County Line has a Kindergarten through 12th grade enrollment of 450 students. We offer small class sizes with a down-home atmosphere with course offerings to match the larger school districts in the area. All of the Advanced Placement classes (Literature, Language, Biology, Calculus, and Government) that County Line offers are taught with our instructors on campus.
Forty-four percent of County Line teachers have advanced degrees, and the high school was ranked the 17th best high school in Arkansas in 2016 by the US News and World Report magazine.
The County Line athletic tradition of success has been evident the past few years with multiple teams reaching the state tournament in basketball, softball, and baseball. The FFA, Beta Club, FBLA, and Science Olympiad have also been very successful at state contests and qualified for events on the national level.
The elementary school encourages respectful, responsible, and ready behaviors through their Rise-N-Shine and CLIP (County Line Indian Pride) assemblies. The elementary school also offers an after-school program that students can attend until 5:30 pm at no cost.
The small average class size with the high expectations of learning that County Line has to offer makes it a great school to attend.
Sincerely,
Taylor Gattis

Logan County prepares students for Workforce- First in State
Through a unique partnership between the Paris School District, Arkansas Tech University and Arkansas Tech University-Ozark, the City of Paris, Tyson Foods, the U.S. Department of Commerce and the State of Arkansas, a career center was built to serve the needs of students and regional employers to develop a highly-skilled workforce ready for jobs upon graduation. Several pathways exist that allow students to obtain relevant job skills in the areas of Allied Health, Industrial Technology and Welding. Students get concurrent credits that simultaneously count as high school credit and college credit through Arkansas Tech University-Ozark. Courses include Anatomy/Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Medical Terminology, and various certifications such as CNA, First Aid, EKG, and Pharmacy Tech. Industrial Technology classes include Electrical Systems, Semiconductors, and Fluid Power. Students in Welding courses will get various welding certifications upon course completion.
Various local employers donated equipment such as robotic systems, CNC machinery, hydraulic systems, hospital beds, lifts, and various other medical equipment. Tyson Foods contributed in excess of $275,00 in grant money, the Economic Development Administration contributed $750,000, and local business and industry such as American Axle contributed $50,000. The career center will work in partnership with local business and industry to provide relevant on-site job shadowing and work with faculty to implement materials into the curriculum that is specific to the needed job skills.

Paris is the home of Mount Magazine, throw your key in the Eiffel Tower fountain,
the highest point in Arkansas, just
19 miles from the town square. We boast about the rich history that you will find at our two museums, historical sites, winery, abbey, and lodge at Mt Magazine. We hope you enjoy the things to do in Paris. We invite you to live, work, and play in Paris!
EIFFEL TOWER PARK was established in 2014 on the west side of the town square. The Eiffel Tower was a gift to the city. A 7- foot two-tiered water feature with fountain was added to the 18 foot tower to become the 25-foot-tall Eiffel Tower. Notable fact: The tower is painted with the same paint (brand and color) as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France! There are 3 different shades of brown paint and it was donated by the manufacturer from France. Don’t miss a chance to have your photo taken at the Eiffel Tower in Paris! Bonjour!
LOVE LOCK FENCE is located in the Eiffel Tower Park to celebrate your love. It was erected in 2017 during our Spring Time in Paris Festival with the first lock being placed on the fence by Miss Arkansas, Savannah Skidmore. Purchase a lock in Paris or bring it with you, add your name and the name of your significant other written, or engraved on your lock, place the lock on the fence,
and forever seal your love in Paris!
THE LOGAN COUNTY “OLD JAIL” MUSEUM is the site of the last legal hanging in Arkansas. If you schedule in advance they will arrange a reenactment hanging at the gallows complete with a prisoner, sheriff, and many more dressed in 1800s period costumes. You can reach the museum at 479-963-3936 between 12:00 - 4:00 pm Tuesday – Saturday. Located at 202 North Vine Street, Paris.
PARIS-LOGAN COUNTY COAL MINERS MEMORIAL-MUSEUM is educational, fun, and rich in history. In the 1800s, coal was discovered in Logan County and the rest is history. With photos and tributes to local coal miners, it is a fun history lesson for all ages. Tours are available by calling 479-963- 6463. Be sure to stop by the functioning blacksmith shop and see how it all worked. Located at 804 South Elm St, Paris.
Logan County is home to 39 registered historical sites that are on the National Register of Historical Places. The site must be at least 50 years of age and retain enough architectural design and material to properly reflect the period of significance. Visit www. arkansaspreservation.org for a complete list of sites.
