In this connection, it should be noted that the Scriptures provide no basis for the
notion that the ongoing Christian community, because it has the Holy Spirit, is an
"inspired" source of divine truth in addition to the prophetic and apostolic
Scriptures. Such a view in fact reduces the authority of the Scriptures by exalting
the authority of the church.
