2023 Holistic Nurse of the Year Michelle McGrorey Michelle McGrorey was presented with the “American Holistic Nurses Association’s “2023 Holistic Nurse of the Year,” award during a special ceremony at the American Holistic Nurses Association’s National Conference. This national award is presented to a nurse from the U.S. and its territories who has contributed outstanding innovations or changes in the field of holistic nursing. Holistic nursing, which has been recognized by the American Nurses Association since 2006, adds a unique and effective layer of caring for patients and staff that sets it apart from other nursing specialties. UMC is the first hospital in the state of Nevada, and the only hospital in Las Vegas, to have an integrative therapies program. UMC’s Michelle McGrorey and Debbie McKinney delivered the conference’s endnote speech, which featured Tranquility at UMC along with each integrative therapy used in our hospital setting, including UMC’s innovative Canine Comfort Program. When the “Therapups” and their photos were presented as one of the holistic modalities used for our patients and staff, the audience let out a collective, “Awwwwwwww, how cute!” They loved our canine comfort specialists and the fact that their visits are charted in the patient’s medical record. Several patient stories about the effect that our “Therapups” have had on their recovery and wellbeing were shared with conference attendees. Needless to say, they were impressed that our canines play such an important role in the experiences provided for our patients and staff Congratulations, Michelle, not only for a truly outstanding job but also for putting UMC at the national forefront with Tranquility at UMC!
