The VISION of the National
Trends and Services facet is to
eliminate disparities by
reducing barriers to services
through advocacy, education,
and service. Our MISSION is to
empower our chapters to
effectively empower the
communities in which we work.

Our GOALS include increasing the number of
sustainable and measurable programs; increasing
collaborative partnerships; and extending our
existing initiatives to include communities
identified as having the greatest need. Currently,
National Trends and Services encompasses the
following programs and committees with national
partners and sponsors, each committed to the
overall vision and mission of the facet. These
programs serve as a catalyst for change
promoting individual and community

Human Trafficking Symposium

Greater Queens Chapter’s NTS & ITS conducted a Symposium and Dialogue
on Human Trafficking at  York College on Tuesday, March 8,  2018 in
collaboration with the NYC Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence,
NAACP and The United Nations Association’s Partnership for the
Eradication of Human Trafficking (PEHT). Our theme was Awareness and
Prevention of Human Trafficking, aiming at how to help people recognize a
potentially trafficked victim and to present that there is hope for survivors.

Anti-Bullying Program

As a facet partner with the chapter’s Umbrella program at PS/IS 116Q,
members provide anti-bullying prevention education workshops and
resources to both students and parents of the student cohort. One program
included a presentation to the PTA on Anti-Bullying. This presentation
provided information on what bullying looks like, to recognize signs of
bullying in their children whether they are the bully or being bullied; how
to combat this issue, whom to talk too and resources to assist. In addition,
we had a Special Anti-Bullying Assembly for Third and Fourth Graders at
P.S./I.S 116Q which was a play by Theatre In Motion, called “I AM ME”. The
play was well received and motivated the students to participate in a talk-
back, on how they feel about bullying.

Dress for Success

NTS successfully sponsored the Queens Branch of Dress for
Success Professional Women's’ Group Program for eight years
2009-2017; monthly workshops were offered to clients on topics
of financial literacy, health, and wellness, career and
employment skills retention and advancement. We also
conducted a Digital Vision Board for the Dress For Success
Professional Women Group, which provided a way for them to
write down their goals, visualize and bring their goals to reality
via pictures from magazines.

The facet received the 1st place NTS
programming award at the Eastern
Area Conferences in 2009 and 2015
for its long-term support of the
Queens Branch of Dress for Success
Professional Women’s Group
Program. Although the facet no
longer works with the Queens
branch of DFS due to a centralized
programming shift to its Manhattan
offices, facet members continue to
support the Professional Women’s
Group program by participating as a
team in the annual Worldwide Dress
for Success Power Walk to raise
funds for the citywide Professional
Women’s Group Program.

Linking With Haiti

The Links Incorporated provides outreach to
women and girls in Haiti who were affected by
the devastating 2010 earthquake through the
distribution of Women’s Survival Kits. This
initiative provides a direct and deliverable
service to the Haitian community. With the
supplies needed for personal hygiene and daily
living still difficult to secure, this initiative aims
to provide basic survival kits to women and girls
in Haiti so they can preserve their dignity. Each
kit assembled by members of The Links,
Incorporated contains fundamental items, such
as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps, and
washcloths, that are too often taken for granted.
