DAWN AND JORDAN ROSENHAUS were both born and
raised in New York, which is also where they met. Dawn graduated
from The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and then went to
work as a designer at Burberry in NYC. Jordan holds degrees from
Columbia University and MIT and is the Chairman of a property
technology business based in London.
Dawn and Jordan arrived in South Florida 5 years ago along with
their 3 beautiful children, Colette Victoria age 13, Irving Hercz age
11, and Chantal Theresa age 10. Shortly after Colette was enrolled in
Kesher and Irving and Chantal in the Nativ program at Scheck Hillel
Community School, they became involved and active supporters of
Kesher. Jordan currently sits on our Board of Directors, and Dawn has
taken a personal interest in Kesher’s fundraising events, about which
she is very passionate.
Their family comes first, and they are both very hands on parents
involved in every aspect of their children’s lives. They support Chabad
and are Patrons for Kesher’s Scholarship program.

DIAMOND EMERALD RUBY SAPPHIRE FULL HALF QUARTER GREETING INDEX
THABATTA AND IGAL MIZRAHI A graduate of the
University of Miami, Thabatta Mizrahi earned bachelor’s degrees in both
Psychology and Special Education. Her passion for special education led
to a master’s degree at New York University in the same field. She has
served in various roles in the educational field, including international
educational consultant for 6 years and established various programs in
South Florida and South America, while continuing to serve on advisory
boards for organizations that value special needs in our community. Igal
Mizrahi is a graduate of Florida International University with a bachelor’s
degree in Information Technology. Igal paired technology with visual
arts and found this to be his medium for artistic expression. He owns an
international cinematography company, and travels the world to create
films for a variety of events, institutions and purposes. Thabatta was
employed by Kesher 15 years ago, however, her relationship with the
school began even earlier, as her sister was a student at Kesher starting
in 1997. Returning to Kesher six years ago as Associate Head of School,
she has played an integral role in advancing curriculum, professional
development, establishing a leadership team and creating a digital
footprint for the organization.
While neither Thabatta nor Igal are native to Florida, from Brazil and
Venezuela respectively, Miami is where they both call home. They are
active members and volunteers for their children’s school, Scheck Hillel,
their synagogue, Beth Torah, their JCC and The Greater Miami Jewish
Federation. Thabatta and Igal believe in living a life filled with family
time, community service, and dedication to continuous learning. They
combine their passions through shared projects such as their favorite:
conveying the message of Kesher using video artistry. They hope that
their multiple projects teach their children, Thaily and Taylor, to follow
their own dreams, stand for ideals and causes they are proud of and
believe in, and work hard to learn, grow and engage in Tikun Olam.

GETZEL
ERIC GETZEL is an 11th grader at Scheck Hillel Community
School, which he has attended since PK2. Being a great athlete, Eric
has been on the school’s varsity football team since 9th grade, and on
the volleyball team since 10th grade. He is an active participant in a
variety of clubs on campus and is the president of Jewish Community
Leadership Team (JCLT) at Scheck Hillel. He is also a madrich at the
JCC for 3rd grade girls. These two leadership positions have helped
Eric become passionate about helping others. The most prideful
experience that Eric participates in is Best Buddies. Since freshman
year, Eric has involved himself in this organization, increasing his role
each year. Now in his junior year, other group members look up to Eric
for support in helping the Best Buddies members. Eric looks forward to
his future at Scheck Hillel and beyond, knowing that these experiences
have molded a bright path ahead.

GOLDBERG
ALYSSA GOLDBERG is a proud Scheck Hillel Community School
and Kesher ICS graduate. During high school, she was an ambassador for the
National Art Honor Society. She volunteered for a winter camp with Friendship
Circle and had a blast with the kids. Post graduation, she works at Hillel as an
assistant to a student who is in the fourth grade. In her free time, she helps
out with the JCC Theater as a stage manager. She has spent countless hours
volunteering with Chai Lifeline and delivering food to various hospitals. In
addition, Alyssa worked with the Miami Marathon for Team Lifeline. As a
Yachad adviser, Alyssa is a mentor to children and adults with special needs.
She also plans and coordinates monthly events with the group. Alyssa is the
assistant to the logistics coordinator for the National Council Of Synagogue
Youth (NCSY). In addition, Alyssa has been volunteering at Kesher both with
the students, and assisting in the office. She has become an integral part of
the team, helping to prepare for our annual Holiday Boutique and Ad Journal
Dinner, and has been assisting at both events for the past four years. She really
enjoys spending time with all the Kesher students, and she looks forward to
many more years of volunteering for all these organizations whose work is so
important to her.

SARA
MOSKOVITZ
SARA MOSKOVITZ is a Junior at Scheck Hillel Community Day
School, which she has attended since PK4. Sara played on the varsity
volleyball team in her freshman year, but her real love is dance. Sara
has participated in Rikudim and other forms of dance since she was
4 years old and is currently an assistant dance instructor for the 2nd
graders. Throughout her years at Scheck Hillel, Sara has been an active
member of many clubs. Sara also spends much of her time helping
charitable organizations outside of school. She has volunteered each
year at the Special Olympics, has helped the Kosher Food Bank and
just recently led a drive for Hurricane Irma victims and helped send
truckloads of supplies to the Florida Keys and Puerto Rico. Sara found
a special place in her heart for the students at Kesher. Even before her
involvement in Best Buddies, Sara made it a point to spend quality
time with the students during clubs, lunchtime, and school-sponsored
activities. As part of Best Buddies, Sara has been able to expand her
involvement and truly make a difference in the lives of these students.
Sara looks forward to growing her friendships, and is proud that she is
able to be a part of this amazing program.

MESSAGE FROM RABBI DR. EZRA LEVY
Executive Director
This is Kesher. The beauty of this year’s theme is that
it allows our school to be defined as so many things to
different people. The people touched by our amazing
organization extend far beyond our students. Our
children, their families, our dedicated staff, our community
of lay leaders, volunteers and donors are all members of
the Kesher family. As such, they all have their individual
interpretations of and feelings toward their definition of –
This is Kesher.
Listening to the children tell us in their own words what
Kesher means to them, hearing parents talk about success
on so many levels, and watching our faculty and staff
lovingly treating their students as their own children,
lets us all know we are a true community. The worlds we
enhance can be improved through a team effort. This is
a belief and concept with which we live and breathe at
Kesher. Watching our students and teachers share the
classroom every day brings a sense of pride and joy in
knowing that we are truly shaping the future of the Jewish
community and global world in which we live. We know
that our accomplishments in this world are as much a credit
to our own efforts as they are to the people in our lives
who give us their constant support. Our best efforts are
constantly enhanced by generous individuals, other local
organizations, and the continued support of the Greater
Miami Jewish Federation.
This is Kesher - allows all of us to truly define our own
Kesher and realize that there is not just one Kesher. Not
just the story of Kesher and how it helps the children, but
how Kesher changes and enhances our lives daily. This is
my 23rd year at Kesher, and I know I will be here for many

more. I look back and I see Kesher’s growth with the same
lens I view that of my family, because for me the two are
synonymous. I thank our families for trusting us with their
precious children. And I thank my own family for allowing
me to be a part of something truly wonderful for the past
23 years. The personal benefit and growth that surrounds
all who are part of the Kesher family allows us to see how
we enhance our students’ lives at the same time we take a
step back to understand how the students have changed
our lives and made us better individuals.
With this appreciation in mind, I would like to welcome
everyone to our 22nd Scholarship Journal dinner and
thank everyone for joining me as we thank all of Kesher’s
donors and as we honor amazing individuals: Dawn and
Jordan Rosenhaus, Thabatta and Igal Mizrahi and our
student volunteers Alyssa Goldberg, Eric Getzel and Sara
Moskovitz. On behalf of our students and their families,
please allow me to personally thank you for having gone
above and beyond in support of our school and our
children.

MESSAGE FROM EILEEN GINZBURG
Assistant Director
This is Kesher…
What is Kesher? Ask our parents, students and members
of the Hillel community and you may get a myriad of
answers. Kesher means different things to different people,
due to the fact that our program is multifaceted, touching
the lives of our diverse student body and their families.
Our team is committed to guiding each of our students
towards building their ability to advocate for themselves
and reach their highest levels of independence both in the
classroom and in their own personal lives. The love and
commitment that I see each day validates the importance
of the Kesher mission in the world of Jewish education
within our community and beyond. It is with pride and joy
that we shout out to all that This Is Kesher!
The growing success of Kesher is due to the diligent
commitment of so many: our teachers, support staff,
volunteers, therapists, parents and our students. Each
of these stakeholders is responsible for the magic that
is created in the Kesher world. When students first arrive
at our school, there is the necessity to build trust and
partnership between our students, their parents and
our dynamic faculty. Once the trust is established, the
magic begins, as we see each student grow academically,
socially, emotionally and spiritually. A Kesher education is
education at its finest. We have been embraced by the
Scheck Hillel administration, faculty, and students as our
students learn side by side with their mainstream peers.
Our students excel not only in the classroom, but in the
arts, on the sports field and in student government.

This year’s honorees truly define Kesher at its best. Our
student volunteers, Eric Getzel and Sara Moskovitz, are two
examples of chesed. They have built a kesher between all
the students on the Hillel campus, taking down any social
barriers. Alyssa Goldberg has been a part of our Kesher
family for her entire life! She is passionate about bringing
out the best in those she interacts with on a daily basis.
She truly exemplifies chesed as well. Dawn and Jordan
Rosenhaus, while fairly new to our Kesher family, have
shown their belief in Kesher with their time and support.
Their commitment to Kesher knows no bounds and they
exemplify tzedakkah. Finally, Thabatta “Thab” and Igal
Mizrahi, are the heart and soul of Kesher. Each year, Igal
magically creates our video filled with images and footage,
allowing all to get a glimpse of the beauty created on
campus by his brilliant wife, Thabatta, and her team. I have
no words to express the magnitude of my respect and awe
of Thabatta. Her commitment to special education comes
from the depths of her soul. Under her leadership, Kesher
continues to grow and become a nationwide leader in
special education. She is truly a gift to us all! This special
couple exemplifies dedication.
Mazel tov to each of our well deserving honorees. Your
commitment to Kesher and its students is an example for
us all.

MESSAGE FROM THABATTA MIZRAHI
Associate Head of School
63 admission tours
84 current Kesher families
50 staff members
4 consulting schools
6 community agencies
12 psychologists
14 therapists
and a South Florida community
Each one with a different lens of Kesher, each one with a
different experience, each one with a different definition
of what Kesher is, to them.
One of my greatest sources of pride in the work that
we do and provide here at Kesher, is the individualized
differentiated experience/approach that each child
receives. Every child’s journey through Kesher is unique,
just as each child is unique. This is a source of pride,
because it is our role as special educators to meet each
student where he/she is at that moment in time, to help
the student discover his/her strengths and weaknesses,
and to guide, support, and direct each student toward
their unique path to acceptance, pride, success and
independence. Most of the time along that journey, we,
as special educators, must purposefully play an invisible
role, fading into the background, helping with nonverbal
cues, hiding among a crowd…. And at one point,
removing ourselves completely, as the tools and lessons
are internalized by the students. Our work and its ripple
effects, often extend well beyond the boundaries noticed
by most eyes, or understood by most descriptions. The
impact felt by those touched by this work, is just as unique
as the journeys experienced.
THIS IS
17
HOME PATRON BUILDER TRUSTEE TRIPLE CHAI DOUBLE CHAI CHAI SOCIETY
DIAMOND EMERALD RUBY SAPPHIRE FULL HALF QUARTER GREETING INDEX
I believe that Kesher’s greatest strength is its ability to be
so many things to so many people…. And at the same
time, be able to help all those it impacts find commonality
not in the product, but in the shared process or journey.
Our students tonight will speak to you about how this
journey helped them discover themselves, but what’s
more, they found pride in that someone looking back at
them in the mirror. In a world filled with language and
experiences that make us all feel that fitting a mold is
what’s ideal, our students will teach you that this is all a
mirage. We are all unique, we are all made up of different
strengths and weaknesses. All of our journeys are filled
with peaks and valleys, obstacles and detours, failures
and triumphs. Through this journey, they discover that it
is because we are all unique, that this is precisely what we
all have in common. There is no greater source of power
than the realization that one’s potential is boundless, and
that everyone’s journey is uniquely what they choose to
make of it.
It has been a great honor to have led Kesher over the
last 5 years towards so many advances, changes and
innovations, to have ushered Kesher and 2 decades worth
of service in this community, into a new era. It has also
been one of the greatest professional rewards to give
back to an organization that is so near and dear to my
heart, an organization immensely intertwined with both
my professional and personal story.

VISION, MISSION AND BELIEFS
KESHER’S VISION
is to be the model and comprehensive resource in the provision of special needs
education within Jewish schools.
KESHER’S MISSION
is to provide, and guide other schools in providing, an education in both Jewish
and secular studies that meets the needs of the individual student, and which
empowers each student to reach his/her highest level of independent and
interdependent functioning.
KESHER’S BELIEFS
In its approach to students and their families, hiring of faculty, and educational
programming and services, Kesher believes:
• all children can learn.
• in Jewish education based on Torah values.
• in providing a balance between the finest Judaic and secular studies for each
child.
• in providing each child who is accepted by the Kesher intake committee a
place in a Kesher classroom.
• in providing the best special education environment to meet the educational,
physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each child.
• in individualized curriculum and instructional practices that meet the students’
learning styles in order to function in the least restrictive environment.
• in implementing an instructional behavioral plan (class/individual) in order to
meet the needs of each student.
• that teachers’ flexibility, vitality in teaching attitudes, love of teaching and
willingness to change will inspire every child.
• that utilizing differentiated instruction (visual, auditory, kinesthetic and
tactile) is vital to enhancing student learning and achievement.
• in the sanctity of the family, and working to provide for the emotional,
educational, and spiritual needs of each Kesher family.
• that students, teachers, administrators, volunteers, parents and community
members share in the responsibility to collaborate in order to provide an
optimum supportive learning environment.
