You will hear a short recording about Bill’s business adventure.
There are errors in the transcript. Can you spot the errors? In pairs, correct them.

I spent a lot of time sitting in the stools, watching my younger sister play sport. My sister,CONTOH
Beth, is five years elder than me. She played on her high school volleyball team and boy, were they
good!

During her junior year in high school, we all begin to realise that Beth’s team was destined
to make it to the district championships. That was when I started planning my next adventure. I
knew if the team made it to the country championship, a lot of friends would be there cheering
them on. What better way to differentiate the Celtic fans from the others than by having them all
wear the same T-shirts during the games?

I quickly created a T-shirt that I could sale at the district games. Then, I asked Mum and Dad
for help. I needed them to be supporters in my T-shirt business! And they did. I had a hundred
T-shirts made and couldn’t wait for the big day when I could sales the shirts for profits.

On the day of the big game, I had my box of T-shirts all ready. I displayed signs and had my
entire family worn the shirts at the game. I thought that would be great advertising. But I was
annoyed when I walked into the hall and saw a whole punch of people wearing T-shirts almost
different to the ones I’d made. After begging a few people, I found out that the pep group at the
high school had sold T-shirts they created – the day before the game! Almost everyone had one
on!

‘Oh no! What am I going to do now?’ I then decided to deduct the price of the T-shirts down
low enough to cover the money I’d spent on them – and to ensure that I wouldn’t be going home
with a hundred Celtic volleyball T-shirts. Luckily, the shirts were so loose and I was unable to get
rid of almost all of them.

In the end, I didn’t make any money but didn’t loss that much neither. I also learned that I
should do some search before starting up a business.

Read the text below and answer questions 1 to 8.

Online and in-store shopping differentiates in various ways. I believe that shopping preferences
change depending on a person’s situation. Recently, online shopping has been most convenient for
me. In Malaysia, there are online stores such as Lazada, Shopee, Zalora, Alibaba and Lelong. However,
online shopping is not everyone’s cup of tea. Therefore, physical stores still exist. AEON, Parkson,
Isetan and Metrojaya are among the well-known physical stores in Malaysia.

Online shopping is most convenient for individuals who don’t have time to go to the store. It is
also convenient since you don’t have to drive, catch the MRT or LRT, wait in a long line or deal with
not being able to find an item. All you have to do is type the item you are looking for and it is there.
Once you find the item, you can order it at anytime because online stores never close.

7

English Form 2 Unit 6

Lately, I have been having a lot of online shopping experiences. I usually buy my items from
websites with a huge variety of sellers to be sure that I get the best price. Thanks to the advance in

technology, we can now compare prices and deals online in real time. This increases transparency
across retailers and provides more options for their target audience. Well, it is difficult to compare

prices between physical stores and we may end up paying more for an item. We also have to spend

money and time going to a particular store.
I believe that some online stores can be really dishonest. I haven’t had nearly as many

disappointments from in-store purchases as I did from online purchases. I’ve had the most
disappointments with shipping. I’ve had experiences with sellers taking extremely long time to
finally ship an item. There were times when I never even received the item I ordered.

However, one of the primary advantages of in-store shopping is that you can try the products
before buying. For example, if you want to buy a bag, you may want to take a closer look and
determine whether or not it suits you. This isn’t something you can do when shopping online. If

you buy online, get the wrong size and have to return and repurchase, you just lost even more time
you could be enjoying in your new duds. If shopping online provides choices, shopping in the store
provides clarity. The item fits, you like the fabric, the colour isn’t different than the picture… in person

purchases have way less unpredictability.

Without a doubt, both online shopping and in-store shopping have pros and cons. Choosing the
best option comes down to your preferences. If you decide to buy products online, take the time to

compare prices. Read customer reviews and contact a live agent for assistance.

Wow! I love it! Shopping is such a breeze. I am out for bargains, so online
shopping is convenient for me. Every day there are lots of bargains. The
only thing is it takes time to browse through the numerous e-commerce
stores available to find good bargains. But I love every minute of it.

Fauzi Ahmad, 60 Entrepreneur
Online shopping? Most people are in it. Online shopping stores are mushrooming.
It’s true that they offer better prices than in-store shopping. But always be aware
of what you buy. Ask yourself – ‘Do you really need the item, or you just can’t resist
the temptation?’ Do differentiate between your needs and your wants. Don’t end
up buying an undesirable item. Yes, I do shop online occasionally, but I still prefer
in-store shopping. At least I know exactly what the item is.

Samuel Cheong, 16 Student
Yeah to online shopping! It’s the in thing among us teenagers. It’s pretty easy and
convenient. Practically everyone shops online these days. No hassle. No need to hop
from one shopping mall to another looking for bargains. Above all, no pleading to Dad or
Mum just to bring me to the mall for things I need. Just a laptop and a mouse and there I
am browsing to my heart’s content. I do shop at shopping malls though.

Mrs Tan Wan Moy, 40 Housewife
Online shopping has made my life much easier. I usually buy my children’s clothes
online. Cheaper and better quality. Reliable service! No hassle of dressing up, driving to
shopping malls, crazy traffic jams and parking woes. I can browse through the websites
I want and yet have time for the household chores. I like the comfort of shopping at

6 Would, like 12 wouldn’t like ride on the tuk-tuk is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in
Bangkok, and completely necessary to make you feel like a local.
I whizzed through the busy streets of Bangkok, finally stopping
at the Grand Palace and Wat Po.
Tuk-tuks have become one of Bangkok’s most recognisable
transportation features, and are still popular among tourists
and visitors. For me, riding a tuk-tuk is more of an experience
rather than a practical way to get around. It is most ideal for
short trips. So, if it is your first time in Thailand, there is no
harm in giving it a go.

and I have never been to Kelantan before, so we are really

excited.

Yesterday, we reached Kota Bharu by bus. As it was time for

our meal, we went to the Pasar Besar Siti Khadijah. This best

pasar in Kelantan is really awesome. As we were a bit hungry,

we bought keropok lekor and Kelantanese nasi dagang. Yummy!
