Right Side Abdominal Pain: What It Could Mean

That pain in your right side — dull and lingering or sudden and sharp, you need to assess your
symptoms immediately. Pause (0) the minute to take stock of your symptoms. Right side abdominal
pain can be vague, and the specifics will help you find the right diagnosis. How long has the pain been
there? Is the intensity persistent or does it come and go? Does it wake you up from sleep?
Pain anywhere can make your head spin (1) on grim possibilities, but rest assured most

The human anatomy is complex and there (5) is many potential causes of right side abdominal
pain — and some are very serious. Some of the ones that will catch your attention are problems in
the gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary tract. Getting the heads-up about all the possibilities
can be helpful.
A hard cardio session may be to blame. Running (6) fast than normal engages your diaphragm
more than you are used to. To avoid this next time, warm up with dynamic movements like jumping
jacks or a light jog to help stretch out your respiratory system.
When you have right side abdominal pain, this is by far the most common
suspect, as the pain is in the exact location of your appendix — a tube-like organ
attached to the large intestine. If it is appendicitis, the pain usually starts out
around your belly button and then moves to the lower right quadrant. You may
notice that you feel more uncomfortable (7) sit still or lying flat in bed. Don’t
blame yourself. There is nothing you could have (8) do to avoid it. There is no
specific trigger for appendicitis. Call your doctor; if you are not treated, the
appendix can burst.

The Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival this year will be celebrated at the Vibrant Mall in a big way. The mall will
be decorated with thousands of colourful lit lanterns with a lantern parade. According to its complex
manager, Mr Wong, more than 500 lanterns will be given away before the parade starts for shoppers to
join in.
‘As we all know, lantern or light, symbolises blessings, hopes and wishes in the Chinese culture.
Therefore, we would like to use a thousand lights to represent or to bring a thousand hopes and
blessings from our mall to our valuable shoppers in this festive season,’ he said.
The lantern parade will be flagged off from the main entrance, circulating Vibrant Plaza, together
with attractive performances by the Lion and Dragon Dance troupe.
There are also many tales around the origin of the festival. The most famous one is about the
beautiful Chang’e, who became the goddess of the moon after she took an elixir of immortality from a
high-ranking deity.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Mooncake Festival, is a 1 000-year tradition, and
is the Chinese version of Thanksgiving. It is held on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar
calendar when the moon appears at its fullest and brightest.
Chinese families will gather during the festive month over fragrant tea. They will eat mooncakes
and pomelos to celebrate harmony, family unity and togetherness. Mooncake is a dense, sweet pastry
that is baked or steamed, and typically enjoyed with tea.
Most mooncakes are filled with lotus paste and salted egg yolk while others contain red bean or
date paste, as well as fruit, nuts and seeds. People will also give mooncakes to family members and
colleagues. You can also find mooncakes in flavours like green tea, chocolate, yam and Musang King,

Simple Methods for Purifying Water

Water is life. It’s the truth. Without water, we can’t survive, and in fact,
without clean water, surviving is difficult. We need clean water to live.
Unfortunately, in this modern world of chemical runoff and contamination,
our sources of water are becoming less present and less reliable.
How can we have clean water? Luckily, that is completely doable, and lots
of folk are already doing it. Here are a few ways for us to join them.

1 The sun

Sunlight is a great way to take clear water, without lots of sediments and such,
from looking clean to being clean, and it only relies on the planet’s greatest source of
energy: the sun. Clean or filtered water should be put into a clear glass container and
left in the sun for a minimum of six hours, and the sun will destroy any pathogens
that can cause waterborne illnesses. PVC bottles should be completely avoided.

2 Boiling
To make sure all bacteria have been killed, the water should be kept boiling for
at least five minutes. In order to get rid of solids, metals and minerals, the boiled
water should be allowed to settle. Some chemicals will be removed as vapour.
Purified water can then be used from the top.

You are going to read an article about ginger and garlic. Theme: Health & Environment

Six sentences have been removed from the article. Choose from the sentences

For each question, mark the correct answer (A – H).

Garlic and Ginger for Immunity and Weight Loss

We are in the midst of countrywide lockdown, and it is perhaps the first time in many years that

the whole world had prioritised health over anything else. As you would know the novel Coronavirus

has afflicted millions of people around the world, and this precarious situation has led many countries

to announce a lockdown. 1 D Immunity is defined as the balanced state where the body is able
to fight disease-causing agents.

2 F Take ginger and garlic for instance; they are so much more than mere flavouring
agents for your curries and stew. Ginger’s medicinal properties are very popular in Ayurveda; it is

considered as a traditional remedy for indigestion, nausea and bloating. 3 A They are both
very potent herbs in themselves; together they can weave magic, especially when it comes to immunity
and weight management. Brewing ginger and garlic tea is perhaps one of the best ideas to enjoy their

goodness together.
According to the book ‘Healing Foods’, ginger’s ‘volatile oils have anti-inflammatory properties

similar to those of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), which makes it an excellent remedy
for flu, headaches and menstrual pains. It can also lower medication intake in osteoarthritis.’ Garlic has
high sulphur content that helps fight infections. It is famous for its antiviral and antiparasitic properties

that help ease symptoms of cold and cough. 4 B
Ginger-garlic tea is also a great idea to aid in weight loss. Ginger is very effective in keeping

your digestive system in good shape. Ginger helps heal the gut, fastens movement of food through the

gastrointestinal tract, and reduces bloating and cramps. It is useful in getting the digestive juices flowing.

5 E As for garlic, it is useful in flushing out toxins. Garlic could help rev up your metabolism
naturally. It is also known to be an appetite-suppressant. 6 H

Drinking the ginger-garlic tea helps you take good advantages of
ginger’s and garlic’s antibiotic and anti-inflammatory characteristics. By the
way, ginger-garlic tea tastes delicious, particularly with honey and lemon.
CONTOH

A Garlic, on the other hand, is famous for its anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties.
B However, it is not advisable for asthma patients to consume a lot of garlic.
C Ginger is a herb native to India and China.
D More and more people are paying increased amount of attention to what they are eating and

practising best hygiene.
E A good digestion is the real key to weight loss.
F Our pantry is often stocked with healing herbs and spices that could do wonders for our immunity.
G You may have heard your grandmothers recommending a cup of ginger-garlic tea for so many of

your health woes.
H A study published in the Journal of Nutrition revealed an association between garlic and fat-burning.

I think we should buy Mum self-care products. Every mother deserves a luxurious self-care moment, and

this at-home pamper set from Innisfree will step up mother’s game. Included are a body brush, which gently

exfoliates with horse hair and sisal bristles, and a solid lotion ‘body stone’, which softens on contact with

skin to dispense a delicious-smelling formula of cocoa butter, almond oil and avocado oil. The whole thing
comes packaged in a pretty make-up bag, so she won’t have any trouble finding it among her other toiletries.

We can go to Paradigm Mall this weekend. There is a sale on, so we can get it at a discounted price.

From,

Kate

A frightening incident I experienced happened last month. I went on my first jungle trekking with
my mates, Adrian and Vishnu. The first 40 minutes went as planned. We stopped to look at wild plants
like pitcher plants that gulped down insects and flies, wild orchid of every imaginable hue, and some rare

Suddenly, three of us noticed that we were alone in the jungle. The trekkers in front of the group had
walked off. We tried to catch up with them, but we couldn’t find them. I got so scared that my heart missed
a beat because it was getting late.

Part 2

You should spend about 35 minutes in this part.

In your class, you have been talking about your favourite holiday destinations.
In about 100 words, write an essay about a holiday destination you enjoy.

what can you do where is it when and who
there do you go with
A holiday destination
why can you do you enjoy what can you see
these activities there there
why do you enjoy
being there
CONTOH
Write your essay.
(Suggested answer)
A holiday destination I enjoy is the beach. From the boardwalk to the rocky coastline, beaches are beautiful
and relaxing. The gorgeous stretch of golden sand and blue sea paint a pretty picture. With their gentle
waves, beaches have a soothing ambience that nothing can beat. There is simply no better place to let go
of daily stress than on the beach. I usually go to the beach during the holiday. I may go with my family or
mates.

I like to sit on the sand, soak up the sun and watch the waves roll in. I also like to take a nap in a
hammock strung between two palm trees. I like sharing a picnic lunch with my family members and mates
too. Beaches are perfect for social get-togethers because they are a great place to relax, feel the sand between
your toes and chat away.

Beaches are fun for sports enthusiasts for many reasons. Beaches are known for enjoying great weather,
which is perfect for outdoor activities. They also have open spaces that are perfect for playing games such as
volleyball and soccer. I personally like to fly my kite here, and sometimes build my sandcastles.

Beach, sea, waves, palm tress, sunsets – all make for excellent backdrops for my Instagram pictures. It
is no wonder that my camera is out of my bag as soon as I hit the beach.
