Reading
Read the text below. LS 3.3.1

We can still find traditional Malay houses in most villages in Malaysia. These
houses form part of Malaysia’s cultural heritage. These houses were built to suit
the hot and wet weather. The early Malay houses were usually built beside rivers
and streams which served as a form of transportation and as a source of water
supply for the daily needs. Heavy rain often caused flood, so they were built on
stilts to avoid being flooded.

The typical Malay house consists of three main sections, which are the main
house, the kitchen and the veranda. Most of the activities are carried out in the
main part of the house. Cooking and preparing meals are done by the womenfolk
in the kitchen. In the evening, family members can relax in the veranda or they
can entertain guests there.
