Turn off the HVAC system

1 First, make sure that HVAC sy
stem is turned off at the breaker panel
before removing the old ther
mostat. By turning it off, it will cut off
power to the thermostat and preventing from accidentally short-
circuiting the electrical components when dealing with the thermostat
wires.

Remove the faceplate 2 7.0 HVAC SYSTEM

Then, remove the faceplate to access the low voltage wiring and
backplate of the old thermostat. If it is still cannot be remove after
checking for hidden screw that needs to be removed first, consult with
HVAC technician. To make it easier to keep track of which lines should
be connected to which terminals, take a photo of the wiring. However,
some thermostats feature stickers to mark the wires with the terminal
codes.

Remove the backplate

3 Before removing the backpla
te, the thermostat wires need to be
remove from the backplate first. Then, simply use a screwdriver to
remove the screws holding the backplate on the wall.

Connect a C-Wire (Optional) 4

A C-Wire deliver electricity to power the smart thermostat. Consult an
electrician or specifically a HVAC electrician to install the C-Wire to
prevent from damaging the system. However, there are some
thermostat manufacturers created an adapter for their smart
thermostats to add a C-wire and sell it together with the thermostat.

Use the new backplate as a template

5 Mark the wall using the backplat
e of the new thermostat and a pencil.
Drill holes for the backplate screws at the marks. Before screwing the
thermostat into the wall, make sure to pull the wires through the
backplate.

Turn on the smart thermostat and 8
connect it to Wi-Fi

Turn on the HVAC system’s breaker. This should restore electricity to
the thermostat, enabling it to boot up. After finished, the thermostat
would provide guidelines to connect it to the Wi-Fi network. However,
this can be done directly from the thermostat app. After connecting it,
the thermostat will ask to select from a variety of heating and cooling
options suitable for the home. To adjust the temperatures, knowing
how it works, and the information it displays, follow the instructions
provided on the app.

BENEFIT

1 Minimize Smart thermostats save energy cost by saving
energy costs the energy. It saves the energy by reducing the

temperature when we are away from home.
When we are on our way home, the thermostat

our house is the same temperature it was when
we left.

Since smart thermostat is connected to our Wi-Fi 2
network, so it enables us to adjust our home
temperature remotely if needed. For example, if we

are going to be home early and we want our house to Adjust

3 Easy to use Unlike traditional programmable
thermostats that do not have
smartphone connectivity, smart
thermostat apps make it simple to set
up and programme. We can even have a
vacation mode set up so that our regular
settings aren't screwed up. These apps
provide a high level of satisfaction by
providing simple statistics that can be
compared monthly.

8.0 BUILDING
REGULATION

51

8.1 FIRE DOORS 8.0 BUILDING REGULATION

Inspection processes may include inspecting the condition of
fire doors, verifying that there are no holes or gaps and ensuring
that closers are intact and functional as well as that smoke seals are
not damaged. If passive fire protection systems are not checked on
a regular basis, common problems may occur for example doors
that are not secured in the open position, self-closers that do not
close the door onto the latch, damaged or missing smoke seals,
damage to light timber-framed walls, insufficient fire separation
above false ceilings or below false floors and penetrations that are
not properly sealed.

All of these issues may be prevented with good maintenance
and inspection procedures as well as careful management of
building system improvements. As a result, passive fire protection
systems are equally as important as active ones when it comes to
inspection and maintenance processes as they assist in the
functioning of active systems.

8.2 WATER MIST SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS

This system's key characteristics are that it must be automatic and
not require people to activate it and must be designed primarily to
protect lives rather than property which means it should be
equipped with faster responding sprinkler heads and that it must be
a fire suppression system that is specifically designed to deal with
fires rather than other hazards. Sprinkler heads with concealed or
recessed patterns can be used in the system design. However, the
installation of any decorative ceiling finish may render the heads
ineffective or cause them to perform inefficiently. As a result, it
should be considered to label the heads with terms like "DO NOT
PAINT.

BUILDING REGULATION 522

8.0 BUILDING REGULATION 8.3 SOLAR PANEL

Whether or not planning approval is necessary for the
installation of solar panels, the installation is still regulated by
standard building regulations. Users must ensure that the roof is
capable of holding the added weight of the solar panels. They will
also be obliged to make any necessary changes to make it safe. All
additional normal health and safety precautions must be followed,
and users may be required to demonstrate to the local planning
authority that the property completely conforms with these specific
requirements. Using a professional contractor to install solar panels
is the best method to prevent any building standards issues.

8.4 CCTV

Different CCTV systems will require different installation
methods. Single camera systems are typically easy to install since
they can frequently be plugged into existing electrical outlets. Multi-
camera systems are more difficult to install and will typically need
additional electrical work such as the installation of more plugs or
spurs. This type of electrical work should always be performed by a
certified electrician. Any CCTV system installation that requires the
installation of a new electrical circuit is notifiable work.

Since they are external electrics, most multi-camera systems
will require their own circuits. Separate electrical protection may be
required for the devices used to monitor and record the video. It is
important to ensure that the CCTV system is properly setup. The
safety of an electrical system is important but a CCTV system must
also be functional in order to be successful. It is important to have
dependable electrical wiring and power sources in order to keep the
CCTV system operating. Using a certified electrician to install the
CCTV system will give the user peace of mind that it will be effective
and comply with building regulations.

53 MULTI-STOREY SMART HOME SYSTEM

8.5 LIFT 8.0 BUILDING REGULATION

There are some common design concerns when installing a
lifting device in any structure to comply with building regulations
regardless of the type of lift. The first of these requirements is that
the best type of lift for all building users be chosen and that if a lift
cannot be accommodated, other options for accommodating
people with mobility impairments be considered. This includes lifts
as well as areas where a ramp can be installed. Other requirements
include clear building signage, guiding users to the lift location, and
easily identifying the floor level reached by the lift. This signage
should be visibly clearly different from its surroundings and internal
stairs should always be provided regardless of the kind of lift.

8.6 HVAC SYSTEMS

HVAC systems must be correctly designed to maximise
occupant comfort even in the most extreme external situations. If a
unit is oversized, energy expenses may rise and the residence may
endure extreme temperature changes even in milder weather.
Oversizing also raises the original cost of the equipment and savings
are better spent on obtaining more efficient equipment. Estimating
heat loss through the roof, walls, windows, basement, and other
home components exposed to unfavourable exterior weather
conditions is required to determine the proper size of the HVAC
system. The system size is then matched to the heat load design.
Along with its oversizing, the unit can recover quickly from a
setback. Tightly sealed ducting is also important for ensuring HVAC
equipment's high energy efficiency.

BUILDING REGULATION 524

9.0 CONCLUSION CONCLUSION

With the onset of COVID-19 pandemic that seems not to know
when it is over, home is the place where people will spend their time
the most. Due to the new policy which is Work From Home (WFH) it is
the blurring of the lines between work and family is making lots of
people realize how critical and important it is to be in environments
that promote comfort, wellness and productivity. As a result, there is a
growing interest in having a smart home. Furthermore, the right smart
home features can make everyone’s life more comfortable and
convenient. It can be denied that a smart home will lead to a better
life. Not only for homeowners but for the builders and integrators that
offer the technologies people want to customize the home of their
dreams. The potential of this IoT is limitless. Therefore, it provides
solutions in all areas including manufacturing, fashion, medical
services and education.
