A Passkey digital key is unique
to the site it was created for. You
have to create Passkeys on a per-
site basis, but this isn’t any great
problem. Once it’s been made,
it can be used on the site it was
created for as often as you like.
Passkeys are designed to work in
apps as well as on the web, but
again, the developer has to make
them available. Because they’re
cross platform, you can use your
Passkeys on a Mac, iPad and Apple
TV as well as on your iPhone,
though these devices must be
running macOS Ventura/iPadOS 16/
iOS 16 too.

Passkeys can be used on non-
Apple devices too, as long as you
have your iPhone with you. You can
sign in on these devices using your
iPhone, by scanning in a QR code,
and then unlocking with Face ID or
Touch ID. It’s simple.

Apple hopes Passkeys will
eventually take over from
passwords completely over time,
but at the moment they’re only
available on a limited number of
sites, including BestBy, Nestcafé,
Namecheap, Cloudflare, GitHub,
Bitwarden, AOL, Dropbox,
Facebook, GoDaddy, Google, ID.me,
Twitter, WordPress and more.
Naturally, further websites – and
apps – will be added over time.

A password-free future with no
concerns about hackers sounds
great. We can’t wait.

What You Need

To use your iPhone as a webcam with Continuity Camera, your Apple gear
must meet the following standards:

• A Mac running macOS 13: Ventura
• An iPhone XR or iPhone 8 or later
• iPhone must be on iOS 16
• Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled on both devices
• Both devices must be logged onto the same Apple ID

A camera mount to attach your phone to your computer is optional. To use

To turn on Desk View, open the Control Centre and click on Video Effects.
Select Desk View, and when instructed, use the on-screen controls to align
your desktop within the frame shown. Click Start Desk View and a second

Set Up Web-based Email Accounts

You can set up and use a variety of free, web-based email accounts in Mail, including Gmail, Yahoo, AOL or Microsoft Hotmail.

1 To access accounts from these email providers, you must have

To start the process of collecting email on your iPad if your account is hosted by a provider other than those listed on this screen,
or hosted via Microsoft Exchange, you will need to tap either the Other or the Microsoft Exchange link respectively. You will have to
visit the support website of your email provider and seek out their help in setting up either a POP or IMAP email account on your
iPad. As these details are all different for each provider, we can, alas, only send you in their direction for help. Check the support
section of their website, or their telephone helpline.

Apple pioneered gestures with its touchscreen iPhone

interact with your Mac. It comes as no surprise then that
Apple Watch also uses gestures, along with controls
offered by the side button and the Digital Crown. Here
we take a look at how to use those gestures to
operate your watch and what they do.

Interacting With Your Watch

Although the gestures offered by the Apple Watch aren’t as advanced or as comprehensive as those used in iOS
devices or on the Mac, it’s definitely worth taking a little time to familiarise yourself with these controls.
