There, doctors found she suffered from cardiomyopathy, which causes the heart to enlarge and lose its ability to pump blood out to the body. The only cure was a heart transplant. It has been 18 months since her transplant surgery, and with her new heart functioning well, Genesis, now 2, is moving forward in life. Doctors say that the further she gets from her surgery without complications, the more optimistic the outlook becomes. “We are in a way better place than we were a year ago,” her mother, Lilian, says. “That’s something we are very thankful for.” You can Make March Matter for kids like Genesis.
