O’Neill has been working from
his home in Cincinnati.
O’Neill is not allowed in the
YES booth because the network
has a vaccine mandate in the
workplace and, according to
sources, O’Neill is not vaccinated
against COVID-19. MLB’s proto-
cols dissuade unvaccinated peo-
ple from being on the field by dis-
allowing contact with any players
and also prohibit anyone not vac-
cinated from entering dugouts
and clubhouses.
So, O’Neill is working from
home.
It is untraditional and odd.
Even O’Neill’s boss at YES has
said it is not ideal, though he is
accepting of it and he compli-
mented O’Neill’s on-air perform-
ance.
That brings us to a week from
Sunday, which should be a truly
special day at the Stadium, when
O’Neill is set to have his No. 21 re-
tired by the team for his nine sea-
sons as a .300-hitting, four-time
World Series winner. There is,
however, a bit of a cloud because
of O’Neill’s vaccine status.
Like YES, the Yankees are going
to do their best to accommodate
O’Neill, while adhering to rules.
So, there will be slight awkward-
ness as no current Yankees will
be involved in the ceremony.
“Paul O’Neill Day will feature
all of the traditional elements
that fans have enjoyed during

the Yankees said in a statement to
The Post. “O’Neill and his family

after the newcomers contributed
plenty again in a 10-2 win over

Naquin, whose lefty bat is typi-

swing against Cincinnati,
launching a third-inning home
run to make it 6-0. He added a

seven of his first 11 hits with the
Mets extra-base hits.
Vogelbach — who stepped to

Field — ripped an RBI single in
the third and added a two-run double in the sixth,
which would have been a three-run double if Pete
Alonso had not been not thrown out at the plate.
In 15 games with the Mets, Vogelbach is hitting .341
with a .473 on-base percentage — all while he, Na-
quin and Ruf are helping keep the other Mets fresh.
With the added bats, they were able to rest Brandon
Nimmo on Tuesday and Starling Marte on Wednes-
day. Canha and Eduardo Escobar are in platoon roles.
No matter who is playing, the Mets keep rolling.
“I think that’s another byproduct of the arteries of
those moves that Billy [Eppler] and we wanted to
make,” manager Buck Showalter said after the Mets’
sixth straight win. “Because it made the other players
better and more sound physically.”
The Mets have scored five or more runs in nine
straight games, the longest streak in the majors.
“We miss J.D. Davis, but the guys that came in are
helping us win ballgames as well,” Lindor said. “I’m
happy that they’re here.”
