the afterlife.
“The idea was floating around in my head for several years
to create a travel website that focused on haunted hospi-
tality locations. In 2015 I finally got the tragic inspiration I
needed to finally commit to it and do it.
“On April 8, 2015, my little brother Jed passed away from
pediatric cancer. Investigating the Paranormal was my
coping mechanism. But I found that many haunted loca-
tions were extremely difficult for your average person to
access without a team or without a small fortune at your
disposal. That’s when I turned to haunted restaurants,
bars, and hotels. Many of them have just as much history
as the infamous places we see on TV and just as many
ghost stories… On top of that they also have heat, electrici-
ty, plumbing, and food and drink.
“I knew I couldn’t be the only person that’s ever lost a loved
one and questioned what came next. My hope with Spook-
Eats was to create a guide map that would allow people to
go on their own paranormal adventures, and come to their
own conclusions about life, death, and what comes next.
Since then the blog has expanded to several books that
also highlight haunted locations in the hospitality industry
where people can go and experience the paranormal for

Macabre?
“My hope with The Feminine Macabre is that anyone who
reads it—whether they identify as male or female (or nei-
ther!)—can walk away having learned something new.”
With an ever-growing paranormal community, what does
Woomer hope to see?
“I hope that the paranormal continues to become more and
more accessible to everyone. I think up until recently, there
was this preconceived notion that haunted locations were
reserved exclusively for the famous people that you see on
TV. However, with various tour groups popping up, loca-
tions opening up to the public, and information and knowl-
edge about the paranormal being shared among “spooky”
people and “mundane” people, the paranormal is becoming
more mainstream and part of the general public‘s lives. I
always say that history belongs to everyone and haunt-
ed history belongs to the weirdos. It’s exciting to see an
explosion within the paranormal community and watching
it continue to grow, change, and evolve will be exciting. If
you think back to how investigations and research were
conducted 10 years ago it’s like night and day… So it’s hard
to imagine what the next 10 years will hold.
“But it will be exciting! And I think if we continue to make
the paranormal less “doom and gloom” and “everything is
a demon,” we’ll be able to bring in more researchers, more
investigators, and create a more inclusive community
with even more knowledge… Historians, anthropologists,
engineers, filmmakers, biologists, bookworms, scientists,
doctors, pastors, witches, astronomers, students, teach-
ers… everyone has something to contribute and I hope as
time goes on, more people will join the paranormal com-
munity because they might have a bit of knowledge we can
all benefit from.”

friend who texted me the first time messaged me after
Pretty sure I slipped in I woke up to tell me that the boy she had a crush on had
the shower and died asked another girl out, and she was pretty bummed about it
and didn’t want to come to the party. I was weirded out that
there was some similarity between that and the “dream,”
but didn’t think much of it at first. As I went to reply, my
younger brother came in to ask if I would take him to his
friend’s house. All the blood drained from my face. He just
stood in the doorway looking confused, and asked me what
was wrong.
I rushed into the bathroom, feeling like I was losing my
mind, and went to check the conditioner bottle. I know this
sounds completely crazy, but the bottle was finished just
like before. And the grip mat was kicked up.
At that point I went to lie back down in bed and texted my
friends to tell them that I wouldn’t be going to the party.
I know this story is going to sound weird and crazy, but hear
me out. Two weeks ago, I was about to get ready for a party
at six. Just before I started getting ready, one of my friends
messaged me, super excited because a boy she’s had a
crush on for the last four years finally asked her out, and he
was coming with her to the party. While I was texting her
back, my younger brother walked into my room and asked if
I could drive him to his friend’s house, which I agreed to do.
Then I went to the bathroom to have a shower and do my
makeup.
So I got in the shower, but when I went to wash my hair I re-
alised that my conditioner was finished. I was pretty ticked
off, because I’d only bought it a couple of days beforehand
and it’s an expensive brand (my younger sister always uses
up my things, so I knew she’d used it all). She’d also trashed
the bathroom, leaving water everywhere and her dirty towel
on the floor.
I was pissed off, and was about to get out of the shower
in order to tell her off and get some more conditioner. But
as I went to get out, I realised at the last second that she’d
kicked the grippy mat we have at the bottom of our show-
er-tub up (our shower/tub is SUPER slippery without the
grip mat). So as I went to step out, my foot slipped and I fell
with my neck down onto the edge of my tub. Time seemed
to slow down in my head, and I remember my last thought
was “Wow, this is how I die? How stupid.”
But here’s the thing- at the moment of “impact,” I woke up in
a start, back in my bed. I know it sounds stupid and cheesy,
like something from a dumb netflix show, but there’s liter-
ally no other way to describe what happened. I was lying
in bed right before I got up to shower the “first” time, but I
don’t remember falling asleep. And the thing is, I’ve been a
lucid dreamer for the last five or so years, and if this was a
dream, it was way more vivid than anything I’ve ever expe-
rienced.

written by Jerome Clark (under the pseudonym Alex Evans)
in 1978 for Fate Magazine, young Harry was “driving with

appeared to be a drawn-out human form, vaguely female in
feature. The otherworldly entity appeared to be trapped in
the headlights. It stood expressionless as Officer Santiago’s
trained eye noted every detail that it could. Mottled black
and gray skin, dark patches of something between fur and
feathers, impossibly thin limbs; but what soon drew the
officer’s gaze was the impossibly black sockets where eyes

The hyper-aggressive aberration let out another
gut-wrenching shriek and slammed its clawed fists into the
hood once again. Giving up on escape, Santiago began
fumbling with the release on his holster, daring for just
a moment to look down. When his eyes leveled on the
monstrosity a split second later, it had made its way up the
hood and onto the windshield. Its gaping maw mere inches
from his face as it screamed so loud that the now-cowering
cop believed that his ears would bleed. Thoughts of draw-

panic overtook him. The cabin of the cruiser began to jolt
violently back and forth as the creature slammed each fist
in repeated succession, left and right, left and right, left and
right, into the tempered glass that was Santiago’s last line
of defense. His head collided with the steering wheel, and,
in a daze, he stupidly wondered if this was an earthquake.
One more hard jolt to the left, his head slammed into the
