Membership Report

By Ali Murphy, Membership Director

July has flown by and we are on the cusp of the end of summer and transitioning into fall
activities. With transition will also come new tradition, for the first time in Sangamo history we
will be opening our doors to the public. The people of Springfield need to know what they are
missing out on by not becoming a member of the Sangamo Club. This will give everyone the
chance to enjoy the food and ambiance Sangamo Club has to offer. We will also be offering a
Queen of Hearts Drawing weekly on Wednesday evenings. Tickets will be on sale in the Club
on Fridays from noon until 7:00 pm and on Wednesdays from 4:00 pm until 6:00. We will be
offering new food and drink specials with this event. Don’t forget to stop in and buy your
tickets. Each tickets are 6 for $5.00. The 50/50 proceeds will go to benefit WILD, a charity
dedicated to canine rescue. This is a great way to get involved! I know our members will
embrace this change and welcome each newcomer with open arms. In other news, our new
lunch menu has received many great reviews and we are excited about bringing our members
the newest trends and flavors to Springfield. We pride ourselves on being creative and
different. Our new dinner menu will definitely follow suit! Lastly, are you planning an end of
summer trip? Might I suggest Washington D.C.? For me, it is one of my favorite and most
impactful destinations. Sangamo Club has three reciprocal clubs in the area. The Capitol Hill
Club, The Army & Navy Club, & The University Club of Washington D.C. If you plan a trip east,
please let me know and I will be more than happy to send a reciprocal letter to any club you
wish to visit!

Society.  Upon initial membership, dipping a small brush in
watercolors and applying to paper was rather intimidating
to me.  Under the guidance of member mentors and many
classes later, I am proud to exhibit a few pieces in the
hallway at Sangamo Club.

I struggle to understand the infinite complexity of color
and how to control the variety of applications and
watercolor paints.  Watercolors are so versatile, so intricate

yet. Meanwhile, there is a world of wonder and beauty in
front of me just waiting to be captured on my watercolor
paper.  It is certainly a challenge worth pursuing to go
outside of my comfort zone in an attempt to appreciate
God’s creation.
