APPRECIATION
First of all I would like to thank the “Panitia Sains” for the
assignment given.
Thanks to Mr Sozlan@Solan for the information given to us
students from class 4 Dinamik, 2021.
Not to forget also for my parent, thank you for the guidance
and ideas as I completed my science scrapbook.
FLORA AND FAUNA
1. Malayan Tiger
The Malayan tiger (Panthera tigris jackstone) is one of the
subspecies of striped tiger that still exists in the world and is
only found in Peninsular Malaysia. This carnivorous species
lives alone except when about to mate or still have small
children. The mating process takes place throughout the year
and produces two or three offspring. Of the nine subspecies
of leopard in the world, three of them have been declared
extinct.
2. Seladang
Seladang or its scientific name, Bos gaurus is the second
largest terrestrial mammal in Malaysia after the elephant.
Typically, this species lives in tropical forests or inhabits
lowland forest areas. The maturity age of wildebeest in
captivity is about two years and four months. In its native
habitat, reproduction of this species occurs throughout the
year although there is a peak period between December and
June.
3. Turtle
In addition to life on land, life in the sea is also among the
reptilian species that are believed to be endangered due to
human greed. Various threats that can befall a turtle. Apart
from being hit by a boat fan, stuck in a fishing net, ingested
plastic is also one of the main causes of the animal not living
long. Apart from that, the illegal sale of turtle eggs is also a
concern for the reptile species. It is because the illegal
activity is still rampant in some places that are the focus of
the animals hatching eggs.
4. Pygmy Elephant
The Bornean pygmy elephant is also known as the Bornean
dwarf elephant or its scientific name Elephas maximus
borneensis. It is the smallest subspecies in the world and
can be found in eastern Sabah and northern Kalimantan.
Smaller than other Asian elephants, the Borneo pygmy has a
longer tail that almost reaches the ground, in addition to a
more upright tusk. The destruction of lowland forest areas,
hunting and logging activities are among the threats that
invite the extinction of the habitat.
5. Meranti Large Leaves
Meranti large leaves or its scientific name, Shorea hemsleyana
is a type of tree that can be found in swamp forests.
Apart from Peninsular Malaysia, this species can also be found
in Thailand and Sumatra.
According to the records of the Malaysian Forest Research
Institute, the conservation status of this species is critically
endangered. The current population in Peninsular Malaysia is
only concentrated in two places in Perak, Universiti Teknologi
Mara and Universiti Teknlologi Petronas, with 142 trees.
6. Rafflesia Flowers
If examined, plants are also among the living things that
play an important role in maintaining the balance of the
ecosystem. Known as the largest flower species in the
world, Bunga Pakma or its scientific name rafllesia
arnoldii was first discovered in a city of Bengkulu in
Sumatra, Indonesia. This type of parasitic plant is only
found in Southeast Asia
Conclusion
Here, I can provide some information about
the endangered flora and fauna and we
should take care and protect it so that it
can be seen by future generations.
