4 children in the USA, seven years later. They continued serving alongside each other for the next three years. She once again saw her husband’s heart in ministry as he took responsibility and ownership in every area that he served in ministry. She observed him without any titles in how he would transport the youth to and from church, teach Sunday school, moderate the service, preach, conduct bible studies and serve in other needed areas. There was nothing lackadaisical about him when it came to serving under his new Pastor, Elder Bentley at Mount Zion Church. He knew the calling to start a new church plant was still upon him but Sister Brown was complacent serving at her new American home Church. When Brother Brown informed his wife that he was starting the ministry, she cried out, “No—no!” Afterwards, she consulted with her former Pastor and concluded the consultation saying, “OK, I’m going to agree to this but if it doesn’t work out, can I come home as a prodigal daughter?” He laughed and responded saying, “Yes.” But nevertheless, God sanctioned this ministry on the 8th of April 2007. Agape Life Outreach Center Ministries’’ journey and services began at the Comfort Inn. By Debbie Lawrence The Browns met in their home country, Jamaica when he was 19, and she was 18 years old. They served together at their home church but when the call to plant a church surfaced, Francis Brown was reluctant. Although she knew her husband's life was gifted from the many roles he served in as a youth leader. He took initiative without being prompted to perform the various needed or wanted responsibilities in the church. However, she was not in agreement and ready to join him with a new church plant because she did not know what to expect. The church and a special woman in Francis’ life, Miss Lee had as well observed Arlem’s ministry in every capacity. However, an opportunity to make a better life for his family drew him to the USA. The people did not want him to leave to migrate to the States. They made promises to care for the young Brown family. But, Brother Arlem Brown’s wife remained in Jamaica while he continued his journey to the States as a single parent with his two young sons. This was quite a challenge. Their love for each other, faith in God, and church family support, sustained them through this period until Sister Francis Brown was finally able to join her husband and
5 Over the sixteen years, Agape Life Outreach Center Ministries has taken quite a journey to arrive to its present location. On Sunday, April 8, 2007, thirty-six people gathered in their new first church home, the Comfort Inn Hotel. Eighty percent of the congregation age range was between 18-21 yrs. old. The church was youth oriented because he had served as a youth leader in Jamaica and at his former church, Mount Zion. His focus at the time was for, children, youth, and young adults. Being a youth driven new ministry, this young couple had a lot of work to perform to make it sustainable. It took determination and sheer grit to become established, they continually exhausted their small resources for several years. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19 KJV) WHO PULLED THE ALARM? In their second year at the Comfort Inn Hotel, just as the church was starting to settle in and make progress, a small incident occurred which mushroomed into a major transition. One of the kids was fascinated with fire alarms and decided to pull it. That incident caused a pandemonium of immediate responses from the police, fire departments, a host of other officials. It brought about an immediate contract cancellation, a hefty fine, and eviction from the hotel. Youth leader Arlem Brown said, “We didn’t have nowhere to go.”
6 Agape Life Outreach Center Ministries’ current and permanent location is 7520 Skokie Blvd. Skokie, IL After searching for awhile, a new location was found. Church services ended up being held in logos Baptist church kitchen. They would go to the local park in the evening for their youth services. In the meanwhile, young Sister Mary Achille opened her home to host the beginning Bible studies. The new transition was a temporary solution. Then one day out of desperation, youth leader, Arlem Brown decided he was going to start calling everywhere. He was even desperate enough to call a Jewish synagogue. One of them said to him, "We're Jews, we don't do Jesus!" He didn't care. He started calling all the synagogues until he ended up calling Temple Judea Mizpah which was a conservative congregation. He didn't know that at the time. Nonetheless, they accepted the new tenants, Agape Life Outreach Center Ministries. The church remained there from 2009 to 2013, and grew exponentially because they had the space to expand. Logos Baptist Church’s kitchen became the second church home for the ministry. St Timothy was the fourth location. The Holiday Inn was our fifth church home. Temple Judea became our third location.
