The German Alumni Association

Die Geschichte des Vereins der ehemaligen Thai
Studenten in Deutschland unter königlicher
Schirmherrschaft (VTD)

The German Alumni Association was founded by a group of former Thai students in
Germany, i.e. Dr.Chakrit Buranasamrit, Pol.Maj.General Dr.Nit Chaikiat, Mr.Porjai
Chaiveru, Dr.Piya Bhirombhakdi, Mrs.Sukanya (Hiranprueck) Nimmanhaemin, Dr.Vichai
Bamrungphol, Pol.Col.Samroeng Chulaka etc. who reached a common opinion that an
alumni association should be established for a gathering of all former Thai students in
Germany.

There are Thai students going to study in Germany since the reign of King Rama V. After
returning to Thailand, a number of them provide numerous well-known contributions to
the benefits and development of our nation, such as M.L.Dej Snidvongs, Prof.Dr. Prakob
Hutasingh, Prof.Dr.Ouay Ketusingh etc.

VTD received the establishment approval in 1967, and took the 20th September, which
was the date of birth of King Ananda Mahidol in Heidelberg, Germany, as our date of
establishment. We were granted the Royal Grace to be taken under the Royal
Patronage, and had our name registered adding “under the Royal Patronage of the
King” on 24th June 1987.

“It is deeply melancholy, and so sad
that I cannot sing it at all without it
bringing sorrow to me”

- Clara Schumann

Liederkreis Op.39 No.5 Mondnacht

“May God grant that my works will
soon be able to prove to you how
much your love and kindness have

uplifted and inspired me.”
- Robert Schumann

MONDNACHT

Es war, als hätt' der Himmel,
Die Erde still geküßt,

Daß sie im Blütenschimmer
Von ihm nur träumen müßt’.

Die Luft ging durch die Felder,
Die Ähren wogten sacht,

Es rauschten leis die Wälder,
So sternklar war die Nacht.

Und meine Seele spannte
Weit ihre Flügel aus,

Flog durch die stillen Lande,
Als flöge sie nach Haus.

Lieder Robert Schumann
Poem by Joseph von Eichendorff

“People who make music together cannot be
enemies, at least while the music lasts.”

- Paul Hindemith

“Hindemith's series of Kammermusik ('Chamber Music')
began in 1921 as an iconoclastic response to the
hyperintense emotionalism of German Expressionist music
over the previous 15 years.”

- Gramophone Classical Music Guide, 2010

“in the great revolution that has occurred in instrumental music
during the last decade and that Danzi of course witnessed,
recognizing its great results and holding them high, he could not
quite appropriate them and even less proliferate them — his works
have fallen asleep or are going to their rest with so many other works
likewise worthy of respect and very popular in their time.”

- Friedlich Rochlitz

Music critic

Ludwig Thuille

(1861-1907)

Premiered in 1889 at the Wiesbaden Festival, this Sextet exemplifies
Thuille’s style at its most graceful, fluent, and polished.

“facile in invention, remarkably clear in form”
“it affords the wind instruments a grateful opportunity without
allowing the piano to overplay its role as accompanying instrument.”

“Thuille was by nature a romanticist.”
- Edgar Istel

Composer, Thuille’s pupil
