Namaste Your Majesty

Message of Condolences : Sincere Condolences to the Royal Family – passing away of
Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II.

As President of the Hindu Forum of Britain and on behalf of Hindus throughout the UK, I
wish to express my profound sorrow at the passing of our beloved monarch, Her Majesty the
Queen. I felt honoured and privileged to have meet Her Majesty on various occasions and
deeply touched by her warm and affectionate nature.

Throughout her reign the Queen was a pillar of strength to people of faith both here and
throughout the Commonwealth, always guided by her own deeply-held religious views. They
taught her to be compassionate and kind and to be accepting towards everyone. She was
always a great supporter of the Hindu community, and as with others, made concerted efforts
to understand our faith so that it could be embraced within the fabric of British society. We
still have work to do, but she served as a beacon of hope and we owe her a great deal of
gratitude.

We offer our prayers .
Om Shanti

HINDU FORUM of BRITAIN

Diwali at the House of Commons

Message from the

President of the Hindu Forum of Britain

Message from the President of the Hindu Forum of Britain
Namaste
Welcome to the 21st Diwali celebrations at the Houses of Parliament , Palace of Westminster

On behalf of the team at HFB, I wish all our brothers and sisters Happy Deepavali 2022 and a prosperous
new year - Vakram Savant 2079. The Hindu Forum of Britain is the leading Hindu umbrella organisation in
the UK and has been actively engaged in the public and private spheres, advocating the needs and aspirations
of British Hindus. This year we are celebrating Deepavali at the House of Lords in person, after two years of
online celebrations and we are looking forward to meeting our members from Mandirs and those who support
us, from the business community.

With sad demise of the HM Queen Elizabeth II, the HFB family offered their sincere condolences to HM
King Charles the III by holding prayer meetings in their Mandirs . The work of our Mandirs , Samaj-
community organisations, is not restricted to the British Hindu Community , many have reached out to their
local and regional communities and abroad through exemplary humanitarian work in Ukraine , India and
Africa. They have made sterling contributions through development projects in poverty alleviation in areas
such as disaster relief, refugee camps , food banks and education in health care.

In the 21st century , we are guided by the Epic, the Ramayan, drawing three life lessons for the community to
achieve Shree Rama Rajya through Learning - Education, Engineering – Social and & Enforcement -
Defence.

Education - In terms of rising awareness about various Governmental and non-governmental information,
presenting balanced but dharmic views to the Government ministers and highlighting concerns about the
persecution of Hindus in the UK and worldwide. Educating others by participating in Strategic Interfaith
conferences and symposiums to raise awareness about the all-inclusiveness of the Hindu Dharma, be it
learning from the History, to protect from conversions or persecutions and forced migration from their
homelands. Highlight of 2022 is my participation at the ministerial conference, welcome speech at the Plenary
session -Freedom of Religion and Belief on 5th /6th July 2022, with over 700 delegates from around the world.
The HFB facilitates free training on Safety and Community Security, Environment and Climate Change
Awareness on a regular basis.

Engineering – providing help in solving problems and concerns to get desired outcomes , responding to the
Government consultations and University research projects to shape positive societal changes inclusive of
renovation and new Mandirs and the first purpose built Hindu ‘OM Crematorium’ project. We are a part of the
faith steering group of the Home office on ‘Protect Duty’ to develop a major Community engagement security
strategy, so that our mandirs and wider community can benefit from shared knowledge and understanding of
security risks in their area.

Enforcement comes into play in developing long lasting relations with the local police forces to gain support
in situations like the burning of the Flag within the grounds of a Mandir and attacks on Hindu houses in the
streets of Leicester. It is really heartening to take note that, throughout the British Isles, local Mandirs got
assurances for them to celebrate the festivals of Navratri and Diwali safely, from their local forces.

We wish that as in Shree Ram Rajya, we live in peace and in harmony, in a society with no religiously
motivated crime, racial abuse or antisocial elements.

Let the Spirit of Light over Darkness prevail , let the spirit of Deepavali dispel Adharmic forces

Om Shanti Shanti Shanti.

Priti Patel MP Diwali 2022 Message

I would like to wish all the members of the Hindu Forum of Britain a very happy Diwali. The
spiritual significance of Diwali is one of hope over despair, light over darkness and good over

evil: something we should all celebrate and has been embraced across the country.
This year will mark the first time since 2019 that we have been able to come together and
celebrate as we normally would, and I know that homes, Mandirs and Gurdwaras across the
country will be filled with happiness and joy as we recall the inspirational story of Rama and

Sita, the strength of their unity and friendship and the defeat of Ravana.

At this most auspicious of times, we can reflect on and celebrate the fantastic contributions
that the Indian Diaspora continues to make to life here in Britain, and the historic ties
between the UK and India.

I congratulate the Hindu Forum of Britain for hosting Diwali celebrations in Parliament once
again, and I extend my best wishes to everyone as we enter the bright lights of the Hindu
New Year.

Rt Hon Priti Patel MP
Member of Parliament for Witham

Putting the Witham constituency, Essex and Britain first.

HINDU FORUM of BRITAIN

Diwali at the House of Commons

Parliament is at the centre of our democracy. It is also the envy of the civilised
world. Our diverse communities make a substantial
contribution to the cultural life in Britain.

It is with pride that we welcome celebrations of our important events in Par-
liament however it is very sad that due to CV19 we are again having to cel-
ebrate ONLINE .

Take Diwali and the Hindu New Year. It is an important festival that brings
great joy to Hindu families and their friends across the world . Here in the UK
the Hindu Community with great pride has been
celebrating this joyous and auspicious festival in the Parliament for past 19
years .

As a Patron of the Hindu Forum of Britain I send my personnel
greetings to all my colleges in both Houses of parliament with a wish for a
peaceful , healthy and successful year ahead for everyone .

It gives me immense happiness to greet everyone on Diwali on behalf of the British Sikh Association.

We commend the efforts of the Hindu Forum Britain for celebrating Diwali in Parliament each year with the

dedication and as a result, the celebrations have become very popular with British Parliamentarians of every

political party.

Diwali is the most important, grandest and immensely popular Indian festival, which is now celebrated world

wide. The globally dispersed Indian Diaspora spreads this epic message of the triumph of good over evil. As the Indians

across the globe become increasingly thriving and vibrant, they can celebrate their festivals, especially Diwali, with great pomp and show. By

preserving and propagating their culture, they have made their countries of domicile richer and more colourful. Indian cuisine, music, jewel-

lery and dresses are becoming increasingly popular with people from all backgrounds and ethnicities.

Diwali is perhaps the only festival for which the celebrations last for several weeks and even months, as there are pre-Diwali and post-Diwali
parties that run right up to Christmas. Gifts and sweets are exchanged with near and dear ones. Diwali brings happiness and lifts everyone’s
mood and spirits, which induces a fresh zeal in everyone. As this is a family event, it is enjoyed by everyone, including the host communities.
Many governments worldwide encourage and celebrate Diwali with the local population. Diwali celebrations in the UK cities have become
probably the largest outside India.

Diwali is celebrated at the residence of the Prime Minister, 10 Downing Street, at the House of Commons, with cross Party Parliamentarians
joining in the celebrations as we are today. Thousands of people attend Diwali at Trafalgar Square, including
Visiting tourists in the capital are mesmerized to see the colourful pageant of music, dance and food.

Diwali is the only day when the world’s three great religions, Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, celebrate this day jointly and for different reasons.
Hindus celebrate the return of Lord Rama with his wife, Sita and brother, Laxman, to his Kingdom of Ayodhya after an exile
of 14 years. The streets and towns were lit up with Diwas (candles) to welcome them home during his return.

The Sikhs, on the other hand, celebrate Diwali as ‘Bandhi Chhorh Day’. On this day, their 6th Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib, arrived in Am-
ritsar after being released from Gwalior prison by the then Mughal King, Jahangir. Guru refused to leave the prison unless 52 Hindu princes
who were also in prison were also released. Guru secured the release of the prices.

The Jains celebrate Diwali as Lord Mahavira, the last Jain Tirthankaras, achieved Nirvana at a Pavapuri. Sri Gangadhar Gautam Swami also
gained absolute wisdom on this day. This is what makes Diwali a wonderful day for so many.

As a matter of fact, behind these celebrations, there is a serious message of preserving self-respect, family honour and sacrifice for others.
Lord Rama left the comforts of his kingdom with his devout wife and loyal brother to uphold self-respect and family honour.
In the process, he showed the world that we would be more selfish without these attributes. Lord Rama also demonstrated that if one
path was righteous, even the cleverest and most powerful Kings with massive armies could be defeated. His wife Sita and brother Lax-
man showed the message of loyalty. Lord Rama’s values have become even more critical in our world, where greed and selfishness have
become rampant.

Happy Diwali To All.

Visakha Dasi

Temple President of Bhaktivedanta Manor

As our world spins into baleful financial turmoil, violent disagreements and international
climatic disasters, we may wonder what we can do to improve things – what positive
contribution one small person can make. Even if we’re powerful and prominent, our influence
and impact on these intransigent problems may be negligible.
There is, however, an all-important area in which we can make a profound difference: within
ourselves.
Diwali is famous as a celebration of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over
ignorance. Let us dispel the darkness, evil and ignorance within our own heart and mind; let
us dispel our greed, lust, anger and envy. To do this even partially would be a truly remarka-
ble achievement, for we would be illumined with positivity, optimism and hope. We’d find our
fear replaced by compassion, our frustration by patience, our disappointment by eagerness.
Despite everything, we’d be happy.
But how to do this? First by imbibing the knowledge that each of us is an undying spiritual
being. Sri Krishna says, “The living entities in this conditioned world are My eternal
fragmental parts.” (Gita 15.7) To grasp this and act on it is not ordinary but extraordinary. In
Sri Krishna’s words, “This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It
is the purist knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is
the perfection of religion. It is everlasting and joyfully performed.” (Gita 9.2)
As we light our Diwali lamp and offer it to the Supreme Person, let us also light up our life
with the knowledge that we are His and our greatest fulfilment is to please Him and His
devotees.

Dear Mrs Patel,

Thank you for your letter of 12 September inviting me to the 21st Diwali reception of
the Hindu Forum of Britain, to be held at the House of Lords on 21 October 2022.
Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you.

Whilst I am very grateful for your invitation, regrettably, I am afraid that diary
pressures mean that I will be unable to attend the reception.

The Hindu Forum for Britain does vital, unifying work on behalf of a wide range
communities and organisations across the UK. I would like to take the opportunity to
thank you for that.

Diwali, the festival of lights, is a deeply special time for Hindus and members of other
faiths. It also has a central message of renewal and hope that is truly universal. Light
will triumph over darkness, and good will vanquish evil. It is a time to come together
and celebrate with family, friends, and community to reflect on peace, progress, and
good things to come. I send you all my heartfelt best wishes for a joyous Diwali.

Thank you again for your invitation, and while I am very sorry not to be able to
attend, I will be with you in spirit.

Yours sincerely,

11th October 2022

It gives me great pleasure in wishing the Hindu Forum of Britain and all its members a
very Happy Diwali and a prosperous New Year. As we start to rebuild after the pandemic
whilst facing a cost-of-living crisis and a war in Europe, it is easy to get stuck on the bad
things we have experienced over the past few years. We have also sadly faced some
hostilities in recent weeks with protests happening in Leicester and other parts of the
country.

With the future being uncertain over the next few months and an uncertain political
climate, it is important we stand together and work together as a community. We have
demonstrated time and time again, especially during the pandemic that we are a resilient
community that will take on any challenges we face and ensure we look out for each
other. Looking forward this will be no different and I am proud to be part of such a great
community.

I am also proud to be part of and to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the expulsion of
Ugandan Asians. The story of Ugandan Asians is one of hope in the face of darkness.
Despite the difficulties they faced when they first arrived, they have gone on to become a
key part of society and have made significant contributions across it including in politics
and business. This is a good example of what Diwali is all about, it is about finding the
light amongst the darkness and celebrating it. By doing so, it allows us to focus on the
positives and move forward into a brighter future.

Diwali is not about ignoring the negative things in life but rather about remembering that
there are so many good things in life to celebrate and even in the darkest times we can
find the hope and courage to carry on. We are blessed as a community to be able to come
together to celebrate the good in the world and to support each other through the tough
time.

I wish everyone an enjoyable Diwali and a prosperous New Year.

State Funeral Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey on Monday
19th September
On Monday 19th of September 2022, in the morning, the world paid their final respect to
Queen Elizabeth II at the Westminster Abbey. The Service was serene with soulful hymns
and readings consoling those who were present and those who were watching virtually. Mrs
Trupti Patel, President of the HFB, attended the State funeral of the Queen representing the
Hindu community at the Westminster Abbey. She offered prayers on behalf of many who
requested her.
The UK Hindu community grieved with the Royal family during these 11 days, the task of
supporting and consoling many devotees and families from Hindu community was only
possible with the volunteers from Temples across the country who offered prayer service at
their Mandirs and also attended many multifaith services during the official mourning period.

We offer our prayers.
Om Shanti

continued throughout her reign.

Mrs Patel then welcomed and invited Ms Sirliol Davis, representing the office of Archbishop of Canterbury,

HH Visakha Devi, Temple President of ISKCON Bhaktivedanta Manor (also Spiritual Commissioner HFB)

torchlight of knowledge has opened my eyes, which were blinded by the darkness of ignorance.

Padmashree Hon Bob Blackman MP had sent a message which was read out by Mrs Trupti Patel “I wish to
express my sincere condolences to the Royal Family on the loss of the Queen. I thank HM The Queen for her
dedicated service to the nation & the Commonwealth. Om shanti. RIP. I wish King Charles III a long life. God
save the King.”

Diwali Message from
Mr Shashi Vekaria

Chair of Patron of the HFB
Namaste
Diwali, the festival of lights, reminds us of the victory of good over evil. This major festival of Hindus
though celebrated with unbounded joy and charm; signifies the importance of peace, prosperity, and
communal harmony amongst the people in our society and more pertinently in the extended world
wherein social justice succeeds all form of human values. Diwali celebrations are moved by the central thought that good
always prevails over evil.

So, Diwali is increasingly celebrated by all regardless of cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds.This is simply because;
the message is one that we all identify with. In short, the “unity in diversity” has elevated us to a level that the world
citizens take a cue from our rich Dharmik values.

Happy Diwali from the Team HFB

Diwali at the House of Commons

Shubh Deepawali

It gives me great pleasure to say, because of the pandemic we are having Diwali face to face after almost 2 years.
Thanks to NHS and Government’s quick vaccination program life is getting a little better.
During the Pandemic HFB has advised helped, guided and supported many organisations who found it very hard to
survive. Our Trupti ben (President) has talked personally to many Samaj communities and organisations.
Let’s get together to start fresh again this Diwali and unite and coordinate together.
Jai Hind.

Namastee,

I am delighted to extend my Diwali Greetings to everyone.
Diwali is always a good time to reflect on our achievements and learn how we can contribute more as part of a
united thriving British Hindu Community.
As we endeavour to build strong relationship with parliamentarians, we at HFB are aware that in the UK Parliament,
our voice needs to be forthright and clear. We value support from Rt Hon Theresa Villiers and Rt Hon Bob Black-
man. Shubh Dipawali to all.
Dr Harsha Jani - Chair, Parliamentary Committee.

Mr Velji Vekaria

Message from the Chair of HFB Diwali Committee

Namaste and wishing you all Shubha Deepawali and a Prosperous New Year. It is a great pleasure to be

celebrating the festival of Diwali and New Year at the

House of Lords after 2 years. We have all undergone some difficult times during Covid19 and it is wonderful to

be back celebrating our various events although we still need to be cautious towards the pandemic which

hasn’t gone fully.

Additionally, Queen Elizabeth II, who during her lifetime presided over 32 sovereign states as the Head of the Commonwealth, passed
away. The news of her death, which occurred on September 8, 2022, shocked not just us but also most of the world. Our condolences to
the departed soul.

We would like to extend our congratulations and best wishes to King Charles III, who ascended to the throne on September 8, 2022,
following the death of his mother.

As the chair of the Hindu Forum of Britain’s (HFB) Diwali Committee and as we prepare to celebrate our 21st annual Diwali at the House of
Lords, I would like to convey our best wishes to everyone on this auspicious occasion of Deepawali which brings happiness and brightens
the spirits of millions of Hindus worldwide. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all of the HFB Committee members, volunteers,
sponsors, and well-wishers for their continuous support.
Velji Vekaria

HFB – Chair of Diwali Committee

Jay Shree Krishna, Jay Shree Swaminarayan, Namaste,

This is my first year as a member of the Hindu Forum of Britain Diwali committee, it has been a great pleasure in
assisting the team for this incredible event.
Diwali, the festival of lights, reminds us of the victory of good over evil and is celebrated by millions across the
globe. After two years of hardship and lockdowns, I’m glad to see Hindu’s busy organising for their usual festivities
and preparing endless amounts of food to be shared with their friends and families. Following on from Navratri it’s a
wonderful sight, seeing Hindu’s busy embracing their culture with all to be enjoyed just as it was pre-pandemic.
I wish all a very Happy Diwali and a prosperous new year!
