OCTOBER 20, 2023 • FRIDAY MdSNA Convention Pre-Con WHEN: 9:00 a.m. WHERE: Room 208, OC Convention Center Upper Level Presiding Megan Doran, SNS, President, MdSNA Cody Wilt, President-Elect, MdSNA Eric Goslee, Vice President, MdSNA At our Pre-con session we will begin with a tour and talk with the Maryland Food Bank, learning how their operation works and how they work with local organizations to support their program while touring their facilities. Then we will hop on the bus to Salisbury University for a Lunch & Learn with SU's Dietitian in charge of student dining. There, participants will be able to go through the line with students, see what menu items are offered and grab a lunch while SU's dietitian provides us with an overview of working with so many students and their diverse nutrition, allergy, and cultural needs while providing engaging menus to entice students to eat in the dining hall. Page 36 | 2023 Convention Maryland School Nutrition Association MdSNA CANDIDATES FOR OFFICE The MdSNA 2023-2024 Slate of Officers will be introduced during the Opening General Session on Saturday, October 21, 2023. MdSNA members will participate in a voice vote on the Slate of Officers during the Closing General Session on Saturday. Officers will then be sworn in during the Evening Event. This is a very important part of our association’s business. Please be present and make your voice be heard. Candidate for Vice President... Cherie Cotsonas Cherie Cotsonas is a St. Mary’s County Public Schools Coordinator of Food and Nutrition Services. She has enjoyed working in school foodservice as a coordinator for the past 18 years. Cherie graduated from Texas A&M University Kingsville with a BBA. Early in her career, Cherie spent most of the time working in agriculture, business, and the restaurant industry. Only after having four children and moving to Maryland, did she seriously consider the option of working in school food and nutrition. She has always been passionate about cooking, nutrition, and providing nutritious foods to those who need it the most. She enjoys the challenges of overseeing the Title I schools. She feels all the programs her staff work hard to implement and support are equally important whether it is Maryland Meals for Achievement, Second Chance Breakfast, Head Start meals in the classroom or After School Snack & Supper programs. These programs provide nutrition to the neediest population in St. Mary’s County. Her favorite part of the job is being in the schools or at a summer program site working with the cafeteria staff and speaking to the students about summer meals, school breakfast, lunch, and after school snacks. Over her school nutrition career, Cherie has enjoyed participating in and attending LAC, SNIC, ANC, and MdSNA. Cherie is excited for the chance to become the next MdSNA secretary and contribute towards the goals of MdSNA and SNA. Candidate for Treasurer... Kathy Kim Kathy Kim is the Fiscal Specialist for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Division of Controller. She has a BS in Technology from Bowie State University and an AA degree in Accounting from Prince Georges Community College. She began her food service career with MCPS in 1994 as a Cafeteria Manager for Takoma Park MS, moving on to the Cafeteria Manager of Springbrook HS and a Field Manger assisting a supervisor in monitoring a cluster of 33 schools. From 2011 till January 2022, she was the Fiscal Specialist for the Division, overseeing all financial transactions, including claim submissions to MSDE, banking, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Ledger. As of January 2022, she began a new position as the Fiscal Specialist for the Division of Controller verifying and creating MCPS Supplier accounts, auditing General Ledger accounts and purchasing card records as well as assisting the Accounts Payable Department Ms. Kim is an active member of the Maryland School Nutrition Association and past president of the Montgomery County School Nutrition Association. Ms. Kim’s hobbies include spending time with her family, cooking and exercising at the gym.

MARY KLATKO Mary is the retired Director of Food and Nutrition Service in Howard County. She earned her BS and MBA from the University of Maryland and is a member of Who’s Who Among Colleges and Universities and Phi Kappa Phi. Mary is ServSafe certified, and holds a certificate in School Nutrition from the School Nutrition Association. She has served as the Mideast Regional Director, American School Food Service Association (SNA), Public Policy and Legislative Committee Chairman, SNA, Nutrition Committee, SNA, Editorial Advisory Board, SNA, Resolutions and By Laws Committee, SNA, Nominating Committee, SNA and contributed to the Managing the Media Video and Workbook, SNA. She has also served as President, Convention Chair, and State and Federal Legislative chair for the Maryland School Nutrition Association, and on the National Advisory Council on Commodity Distribution, USDA, and the National Advisory Committee, National Food Service Management Institute, University of Mississippi. Mary is a member of the School Nutrition Association, the Maryland School Nutrition Association, the Howard County School Food Service Association and the MD-DC Association of School Business Officials. She is also a sponsor in the United States Naval Academy Midshipman Program. Candidate for State Legislative Co-Chairperson... MARY KLATKO (above) & Candidate for State Legislative Co-Chairperson... BARBARA HARRAL Barbara Harral was the Assistant Director for Montgomery County Public Schools. Ms. Harral is a registered dietitian with over 25 years of experience in child nutrition programs. Barbara worked in schools districts in Ohio and Texas before joining MCPS. Ms. Harral holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Foods & Nutrition from Framingham State University and trained at the VA Medical Center in Bedford, MA. Barbara is a Level IV Certified member of SNA. Barbara has been active in MdSNA on committees which include House of Delegates, Legislation, and Industry & Exhibits in addition to the serving on local SNA chapter board. Barbara retired September 2023 after 30 years in school food and nutrition serivce, most recently as the Director of Food and Nutrition in Montgomery County Public Schools. . Candidate for Education Committee Chairperson... Kaitlin Fraer, MBA, SNS Kaitlin is the Food & Nutrition Coordinator for St. Mary’s County Public Schools. She holds her degree in Culinary Nutrition from Johnson & Wales University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Western Governors University. Kaitlin has worked in the foodservice industry for over eighteen years, including working at Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital, and was a High School Culinary Arts instructor in Seaford, Delaware, before coming to St. Mary’s County. She has worked for St. Mary’s County for over seven years focusing on expanding the Farm to School program and working closely with local producers to increase the amount of fresh and local foods served in schools. In addition, she has worked hard to develop staff training programs that focus on improving culinary and customer service skills, which are showcased on the department’s social media channels and help with community outreach.
