BanquetJunior/Senior
The annual Junior/Senior Banquet is a
much-anticipated event that the junior class
spends a good part of the year planning
and organizing. When everything started
getting cancelled due to COVID-19, many
juniors and seniors were disappointed that
that would likely mean the J/S Banquet,
as well. However, when Governor Kristi
Noem announced in early May that she
was encouraging schools to welcome students back
to touch base before the school year ended, the
decision was made to have a modified banquet on
campus for the juniors and seniors who did return.
A one-person-at-a-time grand march was held,
a delicious meal was served, Pastor Andrew Elliott
delivered a message and three of the juniors--
Gage Davis, Evelyn Jones and Everett Paul--shared
their predictions for the seniors’ future. It may not
have been quite the evening anyone anticipated a
few months ago, but it was a special event none-
theless and no doubt some great memories were
made!

Lindsey Hettich graduated from SBA in 2003.
After graduating from Oklahoma Wesleyan
University, she joined the faculty in January 2008.
During her tenure she taught Algebra I, Algebra
II, Geometry and Trigonometry--and sometimes
mutiple sections of one of those courses.
Miss Hettich also served as assistant coach for
volleyball for several years as well as both as-
sistant and head coach for girls’ basketball. She
often helped with track and could also frequently
be found serving on the chain gang at home foot-
ball games. If not on the chain gang, she was by

Miss Hettich was also a chaperone for Servant

Craig Brockel joined the staff of SBA in July
2009. He did not attend SBA, but was brought to
the school through the enrollment of his children,
all four of whom graduated from SBA. His formal
title was Business Manager, and in that role he
was responsible for all of the business operations.
However, Mr. Brockel did so much more than that.
He is a gifted pianist and regularly served as
an accompanist for the SBA choir and for small
group music contest. For a number of years he
and his wife, Lori, oversaw the worship team
for weekly chapel services. They also served as
chaperones for the freshmen Servant Days trip
for many years. He has a CDL and drove the bus
for many athletic trips and other school activities.
He ran the clock for home football and basketball
games and he served as a line judge for volley-
ball.
Thank you for 11 years of service!

SBA Foundation David Paul
TChange
here is not space in this arti-
cle to even begin to address
the changes we are seeing
in our world or even in our nation.
Pour all the chaos into a pot, add a
dash of “election year” and the pot
bubbles over. Therefore I’ll leave all
that in our Lord’s hand and I will give
this writing only my thoughts of changes at Sunshine.
The annual meeting of Advisory Council/School Board on June 5 was
well attended and I felt it was a productive meeting. The Advisory Council
did form a committee that would develop profiles of alumni telling their
story of their SBA experience. Then, with School Board approval, these
stories would go on social media. Also, the Advisory Council gave time to
ideas of how SBA might bring some home school classes to prospective
junior high age students. The discussion centered on how a small SBA staff
home school program might acquaint kids with Sunshine and with the staff
at Sunshine. In the wrap-up session, the Advisory Council brought these
ideas to the School Board.
Changes in staff at SBA are bringing some changes in the SBA
Foundation Cattle Program. We say farewell to Craig Brockel and we
welcome Michelle Scheitle as the new business manager. Mark Foster’s
term ended on the Foundation board and we welcome Brad Ufen as our
new board treasurer. Jamie and Cheryl McClain are also leaving SBA.
For each of these leaving, we give thanks for the great work you did in
your jobs and wish the best for you down the road. As you now see in
print, Craig Brockel, Mark Foster and Cheryl McClain are all leaving at
the same time! Pandemic! Good news: Cheryl is taking her job as Cattle
Program Recorder with her to Sturgis. Cheryl knows all of you and you
all know Cheryl. Cheryl will train Michelle and she will do a great job. I
should also mention here that Craig Hinman is lending a hand in the cattle
program by asking Advisory Council members to help place cows in their
home areas.
For all of you who are in the Cattle Program, SBA thanks you again
and again for your continuing support.
