ปัญหาท่ีพบบ่อย ๆ ในการอ่านภาษาองั กฤษก็คือ การไมร่ ู้ความหมายของคาศพั ท์ จึงทาให้
ไม่เขา้ ใจขอ้ ความที่อา่ นและไม่สามารถตีความโจทยข์ อ้ สอบได้ วิธีท่ีจะช่วยแกป้ ัญหาน้ีก็คือ ตอ้ งรู้
ความหมายคาศพั ทแ์ ละสามารถนาไปใชไ้ ด้ แต่การรู้ความหมายคาศพั ทโ์ ดยไม่ตอ้ งเปิ ดพจนานุกรม
(Dictionary) น้นั ทาไดโ้ ดยนกั เรียนจะตอ้ งเดาความหมายน้นั จากบริบท (Context) ซ่ึงหมายถึง
ขอ้ ความหรือศพั ทห์ ลาย ๆ คาซ่ึงแวดลอ้ มคาศพั ทต์ วั ทเ่ี ราไม่รู้ความหมายแลว้ ทาให้เดาความหมาย
ของศพั ทท์ ่ีไม่รู้ได้ บริบทจึงเป็นส่ิงจาเป็นต่อการเขา้ ใจคาศพั ทเ์ ป็นอยา่ งมาก ท้งั น้ีเพราะความหมาย
ของคาศพั ทน์ ้นั ๆ ตอ้ งข้นึ อยกู่ บั คาอน่ื ๆ ซ่ึงอยขู่ า้ งเคียงดว้ ย เช่น คาวา่ ‘will’ ในประโยค “We
will come back soon.” (will = จะ) แตถ่ า้ ในประโยค “With his strong will, he could win the
match.” (will = ความปรารถนา) เป็นตน้
