Chapter 1 The old well

Rose pulled on her rubber boots. She was about to
get water from the old well. "Back in a short time,
mom!" she shouted as she swung the door open and
stepped into the open.

The path to the old well was really umm...... Messy!
It was only a mysterious narrow lane that got all
kinds of plants. Logs and branches also stopped
people's path but Rose didn't mind. She took each
step slowly, but surely as she made her way through.
In a short time she arrived at the well.

Rose took out 2 canteens and filled them with water
from the well. Suddenly, a butterfly landed on her
head. Rose giggled! She looked for another.
Surprisingly she didn't find any so she spoke to
herself, "I wish butterfies were easier to find!"
Suddenly, there was a woosh, then the ground
shook! "AHHHH! HELP ME!" screamed Rose but
her voice was lost in the rumbling sound of the
ground. Rose squeezed her eyes shut......When she
opened her eyes, she noticed in front of her was a
path. Curiously, she followed the path.



The path led to a cottage. Inside the cottage lived an
old woman. When she noticed Rose was outside, she
opened the door and said,"Welcome in Dear!"

Chapter 2 The secret of the well

Inside the cottage was a burning fire place. Inside, it was
warm and cozy. "Allow me to introduce myself" said the
old woman, "I am Lavender, a good witch. Who are
you?" "I am Rose", answered Rose "Its nice to meet you!"
Lavender smiled. She leaned closer and whispered "The
well is magic." Rose was shocked! She never believed in
magic for as long as she remembered. The old woman
seemed to read her mind, "Let us start from the
beginning"

"This well was built a long time ago." Lavender started,
"At first, people used to treat it as a wishing well. They
threw coins into it. Also, every day it became older and
older until it was too old no one payed attention to it any
more. One day, a young girl came into the forest. she
realized that the well might have felt lonely so she put
one last coin and wished for it to come to life again. That
girl came to me too and I granted her wish by putting a

spell over the well: whoever wishes something will come
to me and I will grant that wish for them . You must be
Important to us somehow! What is your wish?" She
smiled down at Rose when she finished her lecture.

"I wish butterflies were easier to find!" Rose answered
shyly. "Then you will have to see the butterfly queen!"
exclaimed Lavender. "She is a friend of mine! I will
transport you to her!" and with a flick of her hand , Rose
found herself in a different land...



Chapter 3 The butterfly queen

Rose was standing in a large meadow filled with
flowers of all kinds but the best thing was that on
each flower, a beautiful butterfly was perched on
them. A voice disturbed this silence... "I am the
Butterfly Queen, Welcome to our land" Rose turned
back. A beautiful woman stood there. She had blue
eyes, a pair of wings and she wore a long gown. She
had the loveliest smile Rose had ever seen "Hello, I
am Rose, nice to meet you!" said Rose.

The Queen nodded,"Come. I will grant your wish"
She gave Rose a Bottle. "Unscrew this bottle in your
land, then blow." Rose nodded " You must go back
now" said the Butterfly Queen. She gave Rose a bag
and told her,"To come back, sprinkle this on you."
"Yes your majesty!" said Rose bowing low. The
Queen waved her hand in the same way as Lavender

and before she knew it, she was sitting in Lavender's
cottage.

"How was she?" asked Lavender. "Great!" answered
Rose. "You must go now." said Lavender, "You can
come back by wishing to come here using the
wishing well." The old lady waved her hand again
and Rose found herself on her home's front step.

Chapter 4 Rose returns

"At last!" thought Rose. It was a new day and
time to get water from the well! She pulled on her
boots, and put her backpack on. Of course she also
had the magic bottle the Butterfly Queen had given
her with her. As she walked outside, she made sure
she shut the door tight before unscrewing the bottle.
As she did so, mist filled the air.

Rose smiled. She walked along the path to the well
and when she reached it, she filled her canteens with
water. "Now's the time." Rose thought.She closed
her eyes and shouted,"I wish to go to Lavender's!"
There was a woosh then the ground began to rumble.

Grrrr Grrrr! When Rose opened her eyes, she saw
the same narrow passage. She followed it and found
herself in front of a cottage. Knock Knock! Rose
knocked. Lavender opened the door. The old woman
was not smiling. Without a word, she let Rose in.

When they were all settled, Lavender smiled her
weekest smile "Lucky you are here," said the old
lady. "My world is in trouble. No one believes in
magic anymore. Our kingdom is getting weaker and
weaker. It is up to you to help us." After talking
about it, Rose understood that Lavender's world was
in trouble through belief. It was up to her to keep
magic alive. "You must start now" said Lavender
and she gestured her hand.



Chapter 5 Rose's first few victims

"This is not home!" Rose thought. Oh! She
remembered that this was the local park! "Who
should I start with?" Rose asked herself, "Yes! her!"
Rose saw her friend Emilia walk past. She ran to
catch up with her. "What's up, Rose?" asked Emilia

when she saw her. "Do you believe in
umm...magic?" Emilia laughed! "Of course not!" she
said and walked away.

"There!" thought Rose. She ran up to their old
neighbour, Mrs Tabby. "Hello! Do you believe in
magic? Do you know Lavender?" asked Rose. Mrs
Tabby's eyes widened. Then she nodded "We were
once good friends." she said. "Do you know about
the wishing well?" Rose asked. Mrs Tabby nodded.
"So you must know about the emergency!"
exclaimed Rose. Alarmed, the old woman shook her
head, "No dear"

After Rose explained the case, the old woman
slowly nodded, then whispered, "The only thing that
can fix this problem is the well." Then, she slowly
walked away. Rose was shocked! How did she
forget the well?"I will go their straight away
tomorrow morning" she thought as she walked down
the neat path back home.

Chapter 6 Will it work ?

Ring ring! The sound of Rose's alarm went. "It's
time!" Rose thought. She grabbed her two canteens
and put them in her bag. Then, as she opened the
door, she noticed there were lots of butterflies!
Without stopping, she ran to the well. As usual she
filled her canteens."Now!" she thought.

Rosed squeezed her eyes shut. "I- wish- everyone -
believes- in- magic! Silence. Nothing, still Nothing.

"I should go talk to Lavender!" she shouted. There
was a woosh then a rumbling came from below.
Finally, Rose found herself walking down a path,
knocking the door and before she knew it, she was in
Lavender's cottage.

Rose explained everything to Lavender. When she
told Lavender about Mrs Tabby, Lavender put her
hand over her mouth. She tried to say something but
no words came out. There was a long silence. Then
Lavender exclaimed, "I know her! She is my long
lost friend!"



Chapter 7 The plan

"A long time ago," Lavender started, "Tabby was
sent into your world to complete the same task as
you. Although, she didn't use magic wisely and
when her job was done, she didn't have enough
magic to enter my world again. She decided to spend
her life as a normal person in your world."

"Now about the task, I think the Butterfly Queen can
help you", continued Lavender. Shall I transport you
there?" Rose shook her head. " No thank you." she
said simply. "Then you should be on your way",
replied Lavender. Rose took out the little bag the
Queen had given her. She opened it and sprinkled
some dust on her. Suddenly, she found herself

floating in thin air. Within some time, she was in
Butterfly land.

Rose went to look for the Butterfly Queen but she
didn't have to look far. The Queen was sitting on a
rock. Rose explained the situation to her. The
Butterfly Queen nodded. After thinking for a long
time, the Queen thought of a splendid idea! "We will
write the word believe on pieces of paper with magic
dust. When people see it, they will be surprised and
start talking to each other. Then, you will go in and
shout "magic is real!" Then, you take every one to
Lavender's cottage and she will cast a spell to make
them believe in magic!" The Queen suggested.

"I'll try!" said Rose, "But can you lend me some
Magic dust?" "Sure!" answered the Queen. She
reached into her pocket and held out another bag of
Magic dust. Then, she waved her hand and Rose was
back in Lavender's cottage.



Chapter 8 Hard Work
"I just got a great idea from the Queen!" exclaimed
Rose, " But I will need your help!" Rose explained
the whole thing to Lavender. "Yes!" the old woman
said, "Now go complete your plan! Shall I transport
you home?" Rose nodded. With a flick of her hand,
Rose was standing in front of her house.

Rose quickly took off her boots. She left the
canteens in the main corridoor and walked up the
stairs to her room. She took her paint brush, a
popsicle stick and a small bowl. Then, she found
pieces of coloured card board, glue, and scissors.
She turned on her lamp and set to work. First, she
cut the card board into small pieces. When she was
done, she spread a layer of glue and poured the
magic dust into a bowl. She then dipped her paint

brush in the magic dust and wrote the word believe.
"One done, lot more to go!" she thought as she made
more.

Some time later, the sun was almost setting. Rose
had just finished her last card. "I'll continue with the
plan later." she thought. Then, she went out to look
at the sunset with her parents.



Chapter 9 Please work! Please work !

It was a whole new day. Rose was going to the well
but this time just to get water. She didn't have time
to visit Lavender anymore because she had a task to
complete. She quickly walked downstairs and
grabbed 2 empty canteens to fill up when suddenly
she heard her mum shout, "sweetie, today I already
let your dad get the water from the well. You can go
and play." "Yes! thought Rose. "Mum, may I go to
the park, pretty please!?" Mum came downstairs too
and put an arm around Rose, "Yes dear", she
answered. Rose fell a streak of excitement come
cross her as she ran up stairs to grab her things. She
also had a check list of what she has to do.





Rose followed her checklist strictly. When she was
at the park, She had an idea! She took a new paper
from her clipboard and wrote the phrase "Free,
Please take a look. Magic is real!" on it. She then
taped it to a nearby bench with tape from her bag
and sat down and waited. She waited and waited and
at last, Rose heard a little girl say, "You see mum?
Magic is real! She ran towards Rose. She pointed to
the sign. "Hi!" said Rose cheerily, "So you DO
believe in magic. "Yup! And by the way, my name
is Cindy." "It's nice to meet you Cindy!" said
Rose, "And my name is Rose." She turned to her
Mum, "Is it fine to let her go with me? You can
come too. I would like to show her something." she
said. Cindy's mum nodded.

Rose quickly took Cindy and her mum to the well.
She introduced the whole place and the whole
problem to Cindy and told her that she would like
her to help her out. She also ticked Start the plan
from her list. But Rose also didn't waste time. She
quickly transported them to Lavenders cottage.



Chapter 10 Help help and more help

Rose led Cindy and her mom into Lavender’ s
cottage. Lavender greeted them and magicked two
more chairs for them to sit on. Rose introduced
Cindy to Lavender, and Lavender was relieved. Rose
explained that her idea was that she would find some
teammates and together they would complete the
plan. She also said that she would call the team
"Magical Girls” . Cindy was overexcited. As Rose
and Lavender talked to each other she eagerly
bounced up and down on her chair. Boing Boing
Boing!

Cindy looked up at her mother and her mother
smiled at her. “Go and have some fun my dear!” she
said. “I should start now” , Rose said. She turned to
Cindy’ s mom, “You can go and relax. We can meet
where we first met.” “Yes” , said Lavender, “I will
transport you there and you can find more people
there.” And Lavender waved her hand to transport
everyone to the park.

Finally, Rose found two more people. Firstly, a girl
about Rose’ s age named Lyla. Secondly, a teenage
girl named Marsha. Together they were the “Magical
Girls” . “So, this is our plan!” Rose explained the

whole plan to her new friends. Everyone agreed that

it was a good plan, and soon after Rose showed her

whole team her cards and her checklist. So, they

started by trying to give out the cards. Marsha tried

first. She tried to give a woman one of the cards by
saying “Please Please ma’ am! Could you just look
at this card? It wouldn’ t make any difference, I
promise.” The woman nodded, but when she saw

what was written on the card, she laughed out loud,
“Ha ha ha! Kids writing things on a paper with a

glitter pen!? What kind of business are you
starting?” “But we didn’ t write this with the glitter
pen!” exclaimed Marsha. But the woman had

already walked away.



Chapter 11 Hopeless !

Lyla also tried it, but she got the same result.
“Excuse me mister!” she shouted. “Would you mind
if I give you something?” The man shrugged, “Why
not?” As Lyla handed over the card, a worried look
came across the man’ s face. “Believe in what?” he
exclaimed. “Ummm magic!?” Lyla said in the small
voice. “Ha ha ha ha ha” , came the man laughter
seconds later as he strolled off.

Now, Rose herself. She walked up to a woman who

was walking three dogs, and tapped on her back,
“Um excuse me...” The woman turned around in

shock and exclaimed “Um hello” , she started still
horrified, “How may I help you? Are you lost?”
“Thank you but no” , said Rose. “I would just like to
show you something.” She held out one of her cards.
The woman’ s face turned pale in surprise. Without a

word she walked away with her dogs.

Only Cindy was too small to take part. She just

stood there hoping one of the older girls would get

somewhere. But No! When suddenly she heard one
of the older girls shouted “Cindy! Where are you?!
Come here!” Cindy followed where the sound was

coming from and found the older girls standing

around a piece of paper. When she arrived, Rose
said “I think I made a discovery, and I’ ve got bad
news!” Rose pointed to a name on written on the
note. “Mrs. Tabby” , she declared. “So what?” ,
asked Lyla. “She’ s my neighbor, and Lavender told
me loads about her.”



Chapter 12 An Amazing Discovery

Rose explained “Lavender told me that Mrs. Tabby
once lived in the magical world as well, and when I
met her, I told her all about our plan. Now look
carefully at that paper.” The Magical Girls all looked
carefully. “Be focused on the part where it says Find
this special plant to get control of the powerful dark
magic. Isn’ t it weird? I think I know what that
means. Tabby is bad!” All her friends nodded in
agreement.

“Now I want you to read the sentences below
number 1, 2 and 3. I think they’ re clues that

describe the special plant. Look, the first one is, 1.
Normally, a plant’ s roots are under ground, but this
plant’ s roots are showing. It’ s like the plant and its
roots have swapped places.” “Great!” , declared
Lyla. “Now, number 2,” continued Rose, “2. The

farther you are, the bigger it is. The closer you are,

the smaller it gets. Now 3, 3. you have to drink it

with 300-310 ml of water, if you drink less, you will
find all your power gone ”

“That’ s mysterious!” declared Marsha, “We have to
find it before Mrs. Tabby gets her hands on it!”
“Before we start, read that last three sentences,” said
Rose, “Only the ones who believe in magic could see

this. That one we can handle. And the second one

says: The fruit is underground, you have to dig it up.

And the last one says: Put the fruit into a cup of

boiling water and drink it to get control of the power
of dark magic. And look, it even says To Tabby.”



“So, we have to find it!” exclaimed Cindy excitedly.
“Yes!” agreed all the other girls, “Before Tabby gets
it!”
