KINGVALSKY

MISS BLACK US AMBASSADOR 2017

I t is amazing how, in one year, I grew and learned
so much from holding the title: Miss Black US
Ambassador 2017. When my name was called to hold the
national title at last year’s pageant, all I could think was
“Thank You” and smile hoping I made everyone back home
in Louisiana proud. This system... this experience... has truly
shaped me into a different woman. I am forever grateful for
the opportunities that I had to engage with and learn from
so many influential persons throughout the nation. From
partnering with organizations with the same mission as my
platform: health and wellness, to stepping out of the box
and interviewing celebrities on the BET red carpet, I am
eternally changed.

Thank you to everyone who pushed me throughout this
season. Patrice Harrison, thank you for creating this
organization, the long talks about life, and your never
ending support. Auntie Barbara and Nana Bernadine, your
constant reassurance and interest throughout my whole
process continues to make my heart smile. Sean, you are
truly the best big brother a girl could ask for. Thanks for
always hyping me up, even for the small things. Dad, I am
truly lucky and thankful to have a father who constantly
asks “How can I help?” Lastly, Mom, thank you for being
there and always nodding and smiling throughout my late
night brainstorming sessions about how to continually do
more. It means more than you can ever imagine.

To the next Miss Black US Ambassador, take advantage of
this amazing opportunity. Your year will be astounding and,
at some moments... arduous, but remember: “The biggest
satisfaction is who you become.”
