WHAT IS PEMF THERAPY?

PEMF therapy stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy. Put simply, PEMF therapy is a form
of magnetic therapy using electromagnetic fields generated by copper coils.

HOW DOES PEMF THERAPY WORK?

Nothing happens in the body without an electromagnetic exchange between cells; natural
electromagnetic energy controls our chemistry. When this energy is disrupted (by something as
small as a bruise to an injury, a bad diet, or simply from getting older), our cells are impaired.
When your cells aren’t healthy, your body isn’t healthy.

By introducing a complementary electromagnetic field into the body, you can re-establish healthy
electromagnetic exchanges. This is why PEMFs are so valuable; they stimulate all levels of the
body. The therapy is applied externally and fully penetrates the body, affecting individual cells,
tissues, organs, and thus the entire body.

There are at least 800 peer-reviewed papers supporting the fact that electrical shock and electrical
currents can induce significant acceleration of repair in bones and other tissues (tendon and
ligament), but the problem has always come down to two factors; (1) locating electrodes close
enough to the tissues to be stimulated electrically, and (2) the fact that free electrical current
follows a random path of least resistance.

PEMF therapy devices solve this by using magnetic fields as opposed to direct electrical fields,
additionally covering a larger area of the body.

PEMF therapy devices maintain the electrical surface tension of each cell membrane in the body. By
maintaining the cell membrane electrical surface tension, tissue, muscle and neuron cells maximize
their productivity because nutrients are able to move readily and efficiently into the cell to remove
waste. Additionally, by maintaining the cell membrane electrical surface tension, blood supply is

STUDIES AND EVIDENCE

PEMF therapy is based on more than 30 years of research carried out by scientists, researchers and
many years of hands-on experience by thousands of doctors, chiropractors and therapists. Millions
of treatments have been successfully done with PEMF, dramatically improving quality of life for
numerous people.

Many studies have demonstrated the positive effects of PEMF therapy on patients with pain, as
opposed to receiving traditional treatment as well as against a placebo group getting no treatment.
Some studies focused on the rapid, short-term relief while others demonstrate the long-term
effects. The effectiveness of PEMF therapy has been demonstrated in a wide variety of painful
conditions.

There are over 7,000 studies and research papers on the effectiveness of PEMF therapy, most of
which can be found online or you can ask your rep if you require a specific study. Below are some
examples of the studies available:

Van Nguyen, J and Marks, R (2002). ‘Pulsed electromagnetic fields for treating osteoarthritis’.
Conclusion: The basic and clinical research in this field, while somewhat limited, supports the
insightful application of pulsed electromagnetic fields to ameliorate pain and disability due to
osteoarthritis.

Sutbeyaz, Serap Tomruk MD; Sezer, Nebahat MD; Koseoglu, Fusun MD; Kibar, Sibel MD (2009).
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy in Fibromyalgia: A Randomized, Double-blind,
Sham-controlled Clinical Study.
Conclusion: Low-frequency PEMF therapy might improve function, pain, fatigue, and global status in
FM patients.

Multisite Double-Blind Clinical Study," (1997).
Conclusion: Results of this double-blind, placebo-controlled study indicated that treatment with
two 30-minute sessions of non-invasive pulsed radio frequency therapy is effective in significantly
decreasing the time required for edema reduction in patients suffering from lateral ankle sprains.
