1 An Update from Paul Collins – Q4 2022 With us well into 2023, I want to take a moment to reflect on all that we accomplished together in 2022 and highlight a few key priorities for us to focus on as we work to make 2023 even more successful. But first, I want to begin by saying Thank You for the extraordinary effort that went into making 2022 a truly remarkable year for HUB Northeast. Our clients were faced with record inflationary pressures on the cost of their insurance placements in 2022, and we provided a vital service by helping them mitigate that critical economic exposure. I can say firsthand from my time with many of you in Critical Path meetings throughout the year that we battled hard for our clients, and we can, and should, be proud of the work we did – and continue to do on their behalf. Financial Results By now, you have hopefully taken a few minutes to read the financial update from our Vice President of Finance, Corey Gill, which highlighted excellent results for both the fourth quarter and full year of 2022. As noted in previous updates, one of the most important barometers of the health of our business is Recurring Net New Business, which is Recurring New Business (think of this as policies that renew as opposed to policies placed for a onetime event, like a construction project) minus Recurring Lost Business. For the year, our new business revenue less revenue from lost business for policies that recur was +3.6%, with new business at 13.0% and lost business at 9.4%. We continue to make improvements in this important Key Performance Indicator (KPI) of our business, and bettering retention of our clients is helping us with that effort tremendously. Our total revenue increased 13.1% compared to last year and our profit was higher by 11.7%. Your Line of Business or Administrative leader will be meeting with you to discuss the results of your specific area. Our combined Lines of Business produced 10.6% overall organic revenue growth, as follows: Commercial Lines 11.5% Employee Benefits 7.0% Personal Lines 8.4% PBC 18.3% We exceeded budget in most of the KPIs we track. In market conditions that are as extreme as I have seen in my 26 year career, I am proud of the way we have continued to adapt to the many variables and circumstances that are beyond our control. Thank you for your continued professionalism in working closely with our clients, markets, and each other to deliver optimal outcomes! On January 10th, HUB’s Chief Executive Officer, Marc Cohen, shared an all company email that included some points worth highlighting: In 2022, HUB International: • Acquired 68 new agencies generating $236 million in revenue. HUB Northeast started 2023 with the acquisition of two new agencies: OSA and Coast to Coast. Welcome to Max Osa, Shannon Tornoe and their teams! • Achieved organic growth of 8.2%, compared to 8% last year - an historical best for HUB. • Grew our revenue by $520 million, leading to $3.8 billion in total revenue. We will top $4 billion in 2023, representing double our revenue since 2018. • Launched and sustained two Employee Resource Groups, created six HUB Voices and two national DEI councils. • Launched a new digital brand with VIU by HUB and made several digital MGA investments targeting different industries and lines of business. As we shift our focus to 2023 and the priorities that will help us sustain our performance, we are positioned incredibly well to thoughtfully continue investing in resources across HUB to fuel our growth; focusing on our culture for attracting and retaining top talent; and maximizing the resources and experience you need to serve our clients. At the center of everything we do are our Guiding Principles: Building the New, Protecting the Core, Focusing on Our People, and Serving Smart. For HUB Northeast, in 2023, we will prioritize the four strategic HUB pillars as follows: • Serve Smart o We will continue to prioritize the employee experience so that you get the support you need to effectively and efficiently serve our clients. • Build the New o We will lean in harder than ever to ensure that our Producers and client facing teams prioritize cross-selling of HUB’s products and services, as well as identification of new recurring revenue opportunities. o We will invest in a ProEx practice in HUB Northeast that positions us to better serve existing clients and attract new clients with even deeper HUB specialization and expertise. • Protect the Core o We will maintain a rigorous focus on our Critical Path process to ensure that our client retention is historically high. FOR EMPLOYEES OF HUB NORTHEAST GROUP • Q4 2022
2 • Protect the Core (continued) o Return to Culture – we have spent a good amount of time discussing bringing employees back together in person in our offices, and it has been rewarding to see that come to life the past few months. I would like us to equally focus on Return to Culture. It is critically important to protect what makes HUB Northeast special, and that includes the collaboration and development of talent that occurs far more effectively in person than over Zoom and Teams meetings. We know that we can serve clients effectively while working remotely, so that is not a concern. Return to Culture is about protecting all that makes HUB special, which in turn positions us to best serve our clients and develop the next generation of HUB leaders effectively. • Focus on our People o We will be good stewards of the finances to ensure that employees are rewarded when we achieve the success required by our business plan and 2023 budget. o We will continue to focus on talent and leadership development. As captured in this newsletter and Marc Cohen’s email, it is inspiring to see all the activity going on throughout this organization and it is truly a wonderful time to be at HUB! I am extremely proud of HUB Northeast and our accomplishments, and as I reflect on the last year, I am even more energized by what is still possible. This team inspires me to give everything I’ve got each and every day, and with your continued support, I truly believe that our best is yet to come. With great appreciation for all that you have done, and continue to do, for HUB Northeast, and with best wishes for a prosperous and healthy 2023 to each of you and your families. ~ Paul Paul Collins, President & Chief Executive Officer Spotlight: Communication and Attention to Detail Save Client from Costly Denied Contamination Claim When Pennsylvania-based and existing HUB client Philadelphia Macaroni Company experienced a contamination issue with one of their customers, they turned to HUB for assistance with their claim. Wednesday Wins sat down with Brian Munch, First Vice President, Claims, to discuss how HUB helped the client navigate the situation after their claim was initially denied. Q: What was the situation? The Philadelphia Macaroni Company has been a HUB client for more than a decade. They supply pasta products to their customers who then incorporate the pasta into other products. They had a contamination issue with pasta they provided to their customer; foam made its way into the pasta making the customer’s finished product unsafe to distribute. We worked with our client throughout the claims process to maximize coverage for their customer’s loss. Q: What was the biggest challenge you faced? Initially, when the claim was filed, the carrier came back and raised several coverage issues including the “your work” and “your product” exclusions. They proceeded to issue a denial of coverage. Q: What was the solution? Once the carrier officially denied the claim, we stepped in and reviewed the policy along with the details of the loss. After reviewing the policy language, we agreed that our client’s loss to their contaminated but unused pasta product would not be covered. However, we argued that because this is a third-party policy, the portion of the claim involving the vendor’s finished product should be covered. The carrier agreed that that this portion of the claim should paid because the contaminated pasta was a direct loss to the customer’s final product. A payment of $250,000 was issued by the insurance company for the loss sustained to the customer’s finished product. Key HUB Northeast Win: As Featured in the HUB “Wednesday Wins” Emails
3 Recent Awards & Honors Select SHARP Legends Recognized with Promotions To be deemed a HUB Legend, an individual needs to qualify for SHARP for five consecutive years. It’s a wonderful accomplishment and we have a significant number of 5-year legends throughout U.S & Canada. That being said, a “20-Year Legend” is someone who has qualified for SHARP in twenty (20) consecutive years. Of the 17,000 HUB employees throughout the U.S. and Canada, there are only a total of five “20-Year Legends”. It is incredible to announce that four out of these five “20 Year Legends”, are our very own colleagues here in NOE. Congratulations to Patti Clement, Frank Delucia, Mike Zeldes, & Doug Schenendorf on earning this tremendous designation. Qualifying for SHARP 20 consecutive years, does not happen by accident. Patti, Mike, Frank, and Doug all embody what it takes to be a successful producer. The professionalism, hard work, effort, skillset, and tenacity that it takes to qualify for SHARP 20 years in a row is a remarkable feat, and they’ve undoubtedly earned the designation that goes along with what it means to be a “20-Year Legend” This is truly an outstanding accomplishment and should be rewarded and recognized as such. In the 20 years since he has led PBC Programs, the division has more than tripled from $85M in premium written to more than $280M. 9 Community IICF Week of Giving 2022 – HUB Supports Senior Citizens For over a decade, HUB International Northeast has participated in the IICF Week of Giving annually, with our employees throughout offices across the region joining together to support a charitable cause. In more recent times, it’s been important to carefully choose a meaningful philanthropic project that anyone interested could participate in from the office or from home. For this year’s Week of Giving, which took place during the week of October 8th, HUB Northeast ran a “HUB Supports Senior Citizens” campaign benefitting DOROT, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization addressing the challenges of an aging population. Through this project, HUB Northeast employees organized creative efforts with their colleagues and with their families to create and collect cards to brighten the day of seniors – whether for their birthdays, holidays, or just because. HUB Northeast will once again be featured in IICF’s Philanthropic Showcase for our community service efforts this past year. “We are once again proud to support IICF and the annual week of giving. Many of our employees look forward to this initiative every year as our team comes together to show their support for a meaningful cause,” said Cara Siegel, Senior Vice President, Senior Field Marketing Manager, East Region, IICF Advisory Board Member and Week of Giving Team Leader. Through this initiative, an impressive collection of gifts was delivered directly to the hospital on December 15th.
