Therapeutic Services Careers:
Therapeutic services careers in health care are directed toward changing the health

status of the patient over time. Workers in therapeutic services use a variety of treatments to
help patients who are injured, physically or mentally disabled or emotionally damaged. All
treatment is directed toward allowing patients to function at their maximum capacity. Places of
employment include rehabilitation facilities, hospitals, clinic, mental health facilities, daycare
facilities, long-term care facilities, home health care agencies, schools, and government
agencies. There are many health care careers in the therapeutic services cluster.

Occupations: Paramedic, Pedorthist, Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician, Podiatrist,
Psychologist, and Radiation Therapist.

Diagnostic Services Careers
Diagnostic services workers are involved with creating a picture of the health status of a

patient at a single point in time. They perform tests or evaluations that aid in the detection,
diagnosis, and treatment of disease, injury, or other physical condition

Health Informatics

Health informatics workers are involved with the documentation of patients' records and
health information. Maintaining security, utilizing EHR software programs, analyzing information,
and creating networks for health information are critical components of health informatics
career. There are many different types of health informatics workers at all levels. Places of
employment include hospitals, clinics, research center, health departments, long-term care
facilities, colleges, law firms, health maintenance organizations, and insurance companies.

Occupation: Health Information Administrator Registered, Health Information Technician
Registered, Medical Coder/Certified Coding Specialist, Medical Transcriptionist Certified
Medical Transcriptionist Registered Medical Transcriptionist, Admitting Officer, Epidemiologist,
and Medical Librarian.

Support Services
Support services workers are involved with creating a therapeutic environment to provide

direct or indirect patient care. Any hospital or health care facility requires workers to operate the
support departments such as administration, the business office, the admissions office,
central/sterile supply, plant operations, equipment maintenance, and housekeeping. Each
department has workers at all levels and with varying levels of education.

Occupations: Health Care Administrator Health Services Manager, Biomedical Engineer,
Biomedical Equipment Technician, Central/Sterile Supply Technician, Housekeeping
Worker/Sanitary Manager

Biotechnology Research and Development
Biotechnology career workers are involved with using living cells and their molecules to

make useful products. They work with cells and cell production from humans, animals, plants,
and microorganisms. Through research and development, they help produce new diagnostic
tests, form of treatment, medications, vaccines to prevent disease, methods to detect and clean
up environment disease, methods to detect and clean up environmental contaminations.

Occupations: Biological or Medical Scientists, Biotechnological Engineers, Biological

Technicians, Process Technicians, Forensic Science 44
