UN Leadership Exchange

Since 2012, the UN Leadership Exchange brings together every year UN colleagues at the Under-Secretary-
General and Assistant Secretary-General levels to explore the latest thinking around leadership, exchange with
peers on leadership experiences and challenges, and expand their network across the system.

This year’s edition will focus on leading change and innovation: a pivotal topic as the UN readies itself to
support Member States in implementing the ambitious commitments they made in 2015.

A unique feature of the programme is the presence and active involvement throughout the event of former USGs
and ASGs as mentors, who generously share their insights, experiences, and advice.

The event is generously hosted by the Swiss Government and is organized jointly by the UN System Staff
College and the UN Office in Geneva.

• Explore the latest thinking around leadership;
• Discover practical strategies and approaches to lead successful change initiatives;
• Exchange with peers on experiences and challenges in leading change in the UN;

Designed for participants at the Director level, the UN Leaders Programme explores effective leadership
approaches and practices as applied to key international and regional issues facing the UN.

Now entering its eighth year, the UN Leaders Programme has welcomed hundreds of senior UN officials from
around the globe and world-renowned experts from different sectors to create a more effective and unified
leadership culture.

The UN Leaders Programme is held in various parts of the world: in addition to select UN headquarters locations,
two editions are held in collaboration with its academic partners, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy,

This programme is tailored to women at the P4-P5 level from across the system who want to unlock their
leadership potential while networking and learning from each other’s experiences. Among the skills emphasised
are: communication for transformative, charismatic leadership; effective negotiation; and change management.

• Gain a better understanding of different approaches to leadership, as well as the gender aspects of leadership
