meetings, and talking to you and your neighbors, to paint a portrait of a village

Richner Communications, which owns the Herald, was proud to do its part,

In this edition of our annual Living In Lynbrook and East Rockaway, we

look at all that is wonderful about Lynbrook and East Rockaway. A special

publication of your hometown newspaper, it’s published in cooperation with

the Lynbrook/East Rockaway Chamber of Commerce. We are honored to mark

another year as the chamber's official publication.

We hope you find this issue useful and informative, and that you enjoy

The many wonders of

East Rockaway's waterfront
E ast Rockaway's central
hub includes tons
of amazing food and
fun by the water. The
businesses on the “quarter mile”

in East Rockaway stay plenty busy
year-round, but are espcially buzzing

during the summer months when

people flock to eat and enjoy the
many waterfront establishments on

Main Street.

Grandpa Tony’s, on the adjacent
Althouse avenue, opened its

doors in 2018 at the site of former

establishment Althouse 1848. The
restaurant offers wood fire pizza and

other Italian cuisines. In addition to

adding something for everyone, they
offer special pasta nights, teacher

Rockaway residents can www.liherald.com
expect the freshest caught
seafood. Lazy Lobster on
Front Street, faces out
towards the water and
is always packed with
patrons enjoying a quick
bite or just taking in one
of the many live musical
performances by the
water. Since it's a seasonal
establishment, the Lazy
Lobster closes when the
weather starts to cool
down, towards the end of
the year.

In addition to it being
a great backdrop for
the village's popular
restaurant hub, locals will
often spend time at the
marina, where they can
dock their boats or catch
some fish. Fishing is a big
hobby for those living
along the South Shore of
Long Island, especially in
the summer months, when
locals will cast their reels
right off of the piers.
Whether you're out
catching fish or catching
rays, the waterfornt is
always a popular spot and
remains one of the many
cornerstones of the East
Rockaway area.

First Central Savings Bank opens its doors

irst Central Savings Bank opened its ninth location
at 303 Merrivk Road last week, aiming to bring back
“banking the way it used to be, only better” in Lyn-
brook.
Dozens packed into the entrance area of the Pistilli Cor-

porate Building, to celebrate the occasion with local officials

like Mayor Alan Beach showing up for the ribbon cutting.

and“We are a true community bank, so for us to serve a com-
munity such as Lynbrook really aligns to the mission is
here at First Central Bank,” executive vice president and
chief administrative officer Michael Serao said.
In the first week of business, the bank saw 50 accounts
opened and over $14 million put into it. Part of their mis-
sion of community-based banking has seen them bring back
account opening gifts for those starting their first account
with the bank.

Joseph Pistilli, the chairman of the bank’s board of

directors, helped build the building which now bears his

Play Local!name back in the 1970s when it became home to Jamaica
Savings Bank. Pistilli now owns the building and the main
conference room in the bank’s first floor residence is dedi-
cated to him.
“It’s a great feeling to bring a good thing to an area that
truly needs the spirit and services of a true community sav-
ings bank,” Pistilli said. “And I think that our competition,
which is very close by, needs to open their eyes and see what
moved onto the block.”

As a gesture to new neighbors, First Central presented

several Lynbrook organizations with $1,000 checks, includ-

ing Wounded Warriors, the Lynbrook Chamber of Com- Tom Carrozza/Herald
