PART 1: MULTIPLE This part tests your ability to read and get the meaning of short texts,
CHOICE QUESTION i.e. advertisement, announcement, phone message, poster,
signboard, email, etc. These texts are straight forward and here are
TIPS TO SCORE what we need to do:
PART 1
A) Know your vocabulary.
•Many of these questions are tricky. They are designed to test your
understanding. You want to make sure you know what some of the
keywords mean.
B) Dismiss incorrect answer
Based on the stimulus given, dismiss the answer options that are
incorrect. With the remaining answer options, choose the best one.
C) Read and double check your answer.
There’s a trap in every question and you don’t want to fall into that.
Sometimes we overlook certain words and we end up choosing the
wrong answer. Make sure you have time to go back and reread the
questions and answers
PART 2: ERROR CORRECTION
This part of the questions tests your knowledge of grammar and sentence structure
TIPS TO SCORE PART 2
A. IDENTIFY PART OF SPEECH
Identify the suitable part of speech in the underline word, is it a noun, or a verb or adverb etc and change
the word into the suitable part of speech.
B. IDENTIFY THE TENSE USED IN THE TEXT
Read text carefully and find clue of its tenses whether it is in present tense or past tense

Keep in mind that all of the errors are grammatical. There are no spelling or punctuations errors found in
the text.
PART 3: INFORMATION TRANSFER #1
You will have 2 challenges:
1.They are more than one possible answers.
2.You can’t get away with not knowing the meaning of certain words.
E.g.
The price of the mug is Rm6.90. However, a promotion is going on so it was only RM5.50. Mother
paid RM10 to the cashier and got RM4.50 back.
Discounted price
Challenge Number1: Say you don’t understand the text and you sort of know the meaning of ‘price’,
you would have 4 options in this example to choose from.
Challenge Number2: Questions would use words that don’t appear in the text so you can’t ‘smart-
guess’ your answers. You will have to know what ‘promotion’ and discounted’ mean in order to get
the correct answer. So time for some synonyms aye?
Answer not more than 3 words and/or a number
PART 3: INFORMATION TRANSFER #2
TIPS TO SCORE PART 3
1.Watch your spelling.
Spelling is crucial for this part, marker would not give you your mark even with just a single spelling
mistake. So, if it is something that you are copying from the text, make sure you don’t allow yourself to
get it wrong! It will be a shame if you lose a mark like that.
PART 3: INFORMATION TRANSFER #3
TIPS TO SCORE PART 3
2. Capital Letter for PROPER NOUNS.
Again, these words are normally taken from the text, not only you want your spelling right, you also
want to follow whatever CAPITAL LETTERS used in the text, if the answer is in CAPS, you better do it too!
.g.
PART 3: INFORMATION TRANSFER #4
TIPS TO SCORE PART 3
3. Never write a full / long sentence, take necessary words, leave out the examples.
Many students lose mark because they take too much from the text.
Part 3 – no more than 3 words or/and 1 number
You have to make sure you only take the main answers and not the explanation or something
unimportant.
TIPS TO SCORE PART 3 PART 3: INFORMATION
TRANSFER #5
4. Answers must fit in with the given sentence starter.
• The more challenging part is to make sure the flow of the
answers is right. This can be a tricky part. However, bear this in
mind and be more careful when you put in the later part of the
answer, make sure it fits with the starting phrase given by the
question (if there is)
• Notice that after the word ‘must’, we cannot use ‘ing’ ,
therefore you must make sure all words follow after ‘must’ do
not have ‘ing’, ‘s’,’es, or ‘ed’
PART 3: INFORMATION TRANSFER #6
TIPS TO SCORE PART 3
5. MAKE IT A POINT TO
KNOW THESE WORDS.
•These words are popular words used in
Part 3. It wouldn’t hurt to learn what
they mean before the test would it?
PART 4: SHORT •Part 4 (Question 25- 32) : 6 Information transfer questions, 2
ANSWER words with same meanings.
•Part 4 is very similar to Part 3. You have to be careful with more
than 1 possible answers and the language that are designed to trick
you. In this part, it is possible that the questions are structured in
ways that are completely different from what is in the text.
•But
•The text is longer.
•The text is more difficult to understand.
•Answers are no more than 5 words and/or a number
PART 5: MATCHING GAPPED
TEXT
•(Question 33-40): choosing 8 sentences to complete the passage.
•This is the last part of the paper. Students are required to read the
text and find the most suitable sentence to fill in to different parts of
the passage
TIPS TO SCORE:
1. Know the meaning for different types of connecting words (e.g.
and, but, however, further, therefore, so, etc.
•2. Learn how to skim and scan to improve your reading skills
•3. Read the text carefully, paying attention to the keywords in the
sentences before and after the gap.
