Menu Planning: Proper menu planning can help ensure that the correct amount of food is ordered and prepared. Welwitschia Offshore will plan menus in advance, considering the number of passengers and the length of the voyage, to avoid over-ordering and overpreparing food. Portion Control: Welwitschia Offshore will implement portion control measures to reduce overproduction that leads to food waste. Inventory Management: Accurate inventory management will help Welwitschia Offshore avoid over-ordering food items. This involves keeping track of the food items in stock and ordering only what is necessary to avoid spoilage. Footprint Reduction and Community Empowerment 1. Preparation: peeling and vacuum prepacking of hard vegetables will take place offshore and will reduce the amount of waste that needs to be disposed of at sea. 2. Composting: the peels from the vegetables will be used for composting to turn into organic fertilizers which will be used to grow vegetables and herbs in smaller community gardens. By implementing these source reduction measures, Welwitschia Offshore will: (a) create employment for the community of Lüderitz, (b) buyback locally grown produce including vegetables and herbs, (c) reduce the amount of food waste they generate and contribute to a more sustainable environment. WAREHOUSE / LOGISTICS / INFRASTRUCTURE The NutriFood head-office and warehouse facilities are strategically situated in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. From here we supply our regional warehouses, Keetmanshoop, Otjiwarongo, Oshakati and Rundu, to maintain fully operational catering supply depots for our customers and general public. Warehouse facilities are completely fitted and operational to supply a full catering supply service in all regions. We have a total storage capacity of 1 million tons for dry goods and 300 tons of frozen and chilled products. The NutriFood fleet consists of 25 delivery vehicles, varying from 4 -24 ton carrying capacity, all equipped with Freezer / Cooling abilities. Various light commercial vehicles also form part of our fleet. Our inhouse fleet delivers stock to our branches and clients within the borders of Namibia.
