Cameron Nieters started

playing basketball at the age of six and
ejuickly moved on to eompetitise

basketball at age ten. W'hile Cameron
played in tournaments across America, she

came in contact with many scouts. At
school, she scored her 1,000th point in the

hnal quarter of the 1-A state
championship. Though Harvard lirst
contacted Cameron her Ireshman vear, she

committed to the school
in the fall of 201.1.

“My goal is to win an 1\\ League
championship and make it to

the NCAA tournament,” said Cameron.

Stuart Spiers was alxiLit three

years old when he started hitting and
throwing baseballs with his dad. Stuart
didn’t start playing on a team until he was
about eight, but since then he has plaved
year-round baseball. In the summer of

2012, Stuart came in contact with the
pitching coach from Oglethorpe

Umversitv. Since then, Stuart has kept in
contact and committed right before
(diristmas of 2011.

‘1 want to compete tor a starting spot mv Ireshman \ear and help
the team on the mound, and ot course any college athlete’s
dream is to win a championship,” said Stuart.

The athletes that started young are finally
coming into their dreams.

With multiple athletes committed to Division One schools, the Class of 2014 kept the
legacy of athletic excellence alive. Seniors Cameron Nieters, Julia Brown, Tanner Ov,'en
and Stuart Spiers had already committed to schools by Christmas of their senior year. On
average only about four percent of athletes make it to compete in college.

Julia Brown started playing basketball at six years old. When she moved on to travel

basketball, she became exposed to college scouts and came in contact with Western Carolina
University. At school. Brown was a starting power fonvard on Varsits’ for all four years and scored
her 1,000th point midway through her senior season.

“My dream has always been to play a college sport. Now that I have made my dream a reality,
my goals are to do everything 1 can to help my team be successful,” said Julia.

Tanner Owen was just 18 months old when he received his first set of clubs. Ever since

then, he has been a golf standout. Tanner committed to play at Wake Forest University in the fall
of his sophomore vear, markedly early for an athletic commit. Wake Forest is one of the top golf
programs in the country, taking in standouts and putting out Pros, such as Arnold Palmer.

“I hope to play a significant role on my college team for all four years. I hope to win the ACC
and NCAA championships and m\- dream is to play on the PGA tour,” said Tanner.

W E may K N O W that this school t ear

W E K N O W W E A RE more than the
frenzied faces that rushed through the
halls in 2014 trying to make up all the lost
time from the snow days, ice storms, and
extreme power outages.

After the last bell on the last dav, we
bolt out into the summer sun without
looking back at the beautiful school
where we spent the last ISO days. W E
K N O W that the sun will still shine
though the exquisite stained glass
windows warming the air of the hallways
regardless of the lack of our presence.
The classrooms we once gave life will sit
empty, their whiteboards longing for the
smooth strokes of the fresh jet-black
markers of the school year to come. No
longer will the bell ring at 12:03 signaling
the start o f our fifth period lunch; the
school will contain an eerie silence
unknown to us.

W E K N O W that in the year to come,
another senior class photo will be added
to the long line of frames that wraps
around the entire length o f the upstairs
hallway. The Class of 2014 won’t be just
another list of people to add to the alumni
invitees for the homecoming game; their
presence will always remain. Some will
venture back to say “hi” to the place that
was home for four years, some will
forever hold sports records, others will be
remembered by their signatures on the
walls of the stage in the gym. W E
K N O W that The Class of 2014 will leave,
but their legacy will remain.

W E K N O W that as this year comes to
