FASTING AND HEALTH

By: AHMAD AQIL B. AHMAD FARID TERMIZI, 6A1

Fasting is commonly associated with the month of Ramadan. It is a period of time where you
refrain from eating and drinking from dawn until dusk. While fasting for Ramadan is down to
spiritual beliefs, many of us choose to fast with the belief that it benefits our health. But does
it?
Well, although fasting can be challenging and sometimes uncomfortable there are health
benefits of fasting. First of all, fasting helps us to lose weight. Eating little food will result in
weight loss, at least in the short term.
Next, fasting can help clear the skin because with the body temporarily freed from digestion,
it’s able to focus its regenerative energies on other systems. As a result, our largest organ, the
skin, is wonderfully impacted by fasting during Ramadan and also after Ramadan.
Lastly, not eating anything for just one day has shown to help the body clean up the toxins
and regulate the functioning of other organs of the body like the liver, kidneys, and other parts.
To conclude, fasting brings a lot of advantages, more than disadvantages.

This year, for two years in a row, Hari Raya is
celebrated in moderation due to the nationwide
movement control order (MCO) enforced to
contain the outbreak of COVID-19. No 'balik

congregational prayers in mosques and graveyard
visits as we are being locked at home and social
gathering is restricted.
Hari Raya has to be celebrated in the new
