Vulindlela safety milestone:

5,000,000 injury-free manhours

On 30 March 2021, the Vulindlela team
achieved a five million Lost Time Injury Free
manhour milestone.

“The support and commitment of the Sappi and Wood
AFRY management team was instrumental in this
outstanding achievement,” says Project Director
Wayne Weston.

“The challenges have been numerous throughout
the project, however, good team work has provided
a platform for continued efforts in instilling positive
safety behaviour and implementing a robust
safety system.

We shall endeavour to complete the construction and
commissioning phases of Project Vulindlela with focus
of every employee returning safety and healthy to
their families.”

This milestone is in line
with our safety value
and commitment to:
• Building trust by
creating a safe
working environment
for all, which in turn
drives operational
excellence and grow

future sustainability.

2021 Employee Engagement Survey:
Feedback sessions underway

Please participate as we build
Sappi’s future together

The 2021 Engagement Survey and the results analysis are done and dusted and feedback into
business is currently underway.

A total of 90 HR business partners from across the globe
have participated in a workshop to help sharpen their
skills to assist with feedback.

The next phase in our engagement journey is the
roll-out of the results across our business units. This will
include team level engagements where there are six or
more employees that have shared their views during
the survey.

We invite each one of you to participate in these focus group
discussions at your unit to help identify the key actions required
to make Sappi an even greater place to work.

An implementation tracking model has been introduced to track
progress of actions against plan. Sappi employees can expect report backs
in regular intervals, ranging from monthly (team level) to quarterly (global
updates).

With your input and feedback received, we are excited about what the future holds
as we work together to build a great Sappi.

L&D team leading the way:

Upskill programme for

Shift Superintendents

The Learning & Development team recently embarked on an upskilling programme with the
Shift Superintendents in the Mill Finishing department. Individual competency assessments were

in place.

Covid-19 vaccinations:

Harold gets his jab

The Covid-19 vaccination programme is underway, and some of our colleagues at Saiccor Mill
are not letting the opportunity to be vaccinated slip away.

Warehouse Manager Harold Magubane recently
received his vaccination. He shares his experience.

What was it getting the vaccine?
I wasn’t too sure what to expect when I went to go get vaccinated. I just
told myself that this was really for my own good and wellbeing, and that
there was nothing to be afraid of.

What are some of the myths you have come across about the “Feel free to visit the

information or to ask questions if they feel anxious or unsure about the vaccine.
