Introduction - Irish Conviviality

Short Stories:
Ireland is a country of words. Spoken, written or sung, the Irish are famously verbose. A social people
known for their warmth, hospitality and generosity, the Irish live in the spirit of togetherness, sharing and
interaction.
Not surprisingly, Ireland has made a large contribution to world literature in all its branches, particularly in
the English language. Poetry in Irish is among the oldest, with the earliest examples dating from the 6th
century. In English, Jonathan Swift, still often called the foremost satirist in the English language, was very
popular in his day for works such as Gulliver’s Travels, and Oscar Wilde is known most for his often quoted
witticisms.
In the 20th century, Ireland produced four winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature: George Bernard Shaw,
William Butler Yeats, Samuel Beckett and Seamus Heaney. Although not a Nobel Prize winner, James Joyce
is widely considered to be one of the most significant writers of the 20th century.
It is this human connection that inspires the new barware range—designed to bring people together--
appropriately called ‘Short Stories’. Like a good short story, this barware range has a well-defined
beginning and end: three new cut barware patterns feature a decanter, ice bucket and tumblers. For a
new modern touch, the decanters and tumblers feature marble coasters; the ice bucket features a stainless
steel scoop instead of the ice tongs.
In addition, there are specialty tumblers that play with Irish tradition and symbols, the Ogham tumblers
feature the Celtic alphabet of the ancient Irish. Finally, two ‘retro’ decanters round out the tale.

Olann Collection: Inspiration

The Olann, (Irish word for wool) Pattern gets its namesake from the set of
Islands off the West Coast of Ireland known as The Aran Islands. Laying at the
mouth of the Galway Bay where the Atlantic Sea is relentless, the Islanders
were fisherman and farmers whose livelihoods and lives were deeply
intertwined.
The Aran knit sweater was a product of this environment and since then has
become the ultimate symbol of Irish Clan heritage. Each Aran stitch carries its
own unique meaning and historic legacy from the lives of the Island
community. The inspiration for this collection is pulled from an Aran knit
Pattern known as the ‘Diamond Stitch’ representing the fields of the islands.
These barren fields were often covered with seaweed from the Atlantic to
help produce a strong harvest. From a distance, the layering of seaweed often
portrayed a repeating diamond pattern- well known in the Island community,
the Diamond stitch represented a wish for success and wealth.

Cluin Collection: Inspiration

Dublin has produced some of the world’s great writers, including Oscar
Wilde, Bram Stoker, James Joyce, W.B. Yeats, Samuel Beckett, Jonathan
Swift and Sheridan Le Fanu, amongst many others. These literary greats
are celebrated both visually – in statues, plaques, memorials and graves
– and imaginatively throughout the city. George Bernard Shaw, W.B.
Yeats, Samuel Beckett and Seamus Heaney are all also Nobel Prize
Laureates. Home to one of Europe's first and oldest public libraries,
Dublin was officially named “the City of Literature” in 2010.
The Cluin Pattern pays tribute to the towering grid-like oak book
shelves of the carefully preserved 18th century Marsh’s Library. The
interior of the library has remained largely unchanged since it was built
three-hundred years ago. It is one of the very few 18th century
buildings left in Dublin that is still being used for its original purpose.

Aras Collection: Inspiration

The land of Ireland, from the staggering Cliffs of Moher to
the pristine Killarney National Park, has the kind of beauty
that will make you a believer. Blanketed in lush green
grass, wild flowers and dotted with castles and lighthouses,
there really is nothing quite like Ireland's landscape.
Ireland’s natural beauty has served as inspiration for many
writers, poets, playwrights and designers. The third
pattern in the Short Stories Collection derives from the
stunning fields that dominate the Irish landscape. The Aras
Pattern depicts vertical cuts representing the abundant
blades of green grass seen all over the country. Due to its
mild climate and plentiful rainfall, 80% of Irelands
agricultural land is devoted to grasslands.

Ogham Collection: Inspiration

Short Stories Ogham Collection:
Ogham (pronounced oh-am), is the earliest form of writing in the
Irish language and was used from the 4th to the 7th centuries.
Based on the Latin alphabet and inscribed on stones or sticks,
the text is read from bottom up. There currently are over 400
surviving examples of Ogham all over Ireland. Named after the
Celtic God Ogma, (the God of Literature) this 20 letter writing
system often denoted ownership of an object and has also been
linked to poetry.
Waterford is proud to launch the new Ogham Collection,
consisting of four tumblers- each representing four meaningful
Gaelic words: Síocháin meaning Peace, Sonas meaning
Happiness, Gra meaning love
and Clan meaning Family.

Retro W Decanters Collection: Inspiration

The Retro W collection celebrates conviviality and Waterford
heritage, with a recollection of the original Waterford logo,
which was based on the seal of Waterford City and the
Viking past.
Retro Short Stories includes two retro decanters; Bond, a
beautiful shape with cut stopper and “W” featuring the
original Waterford logo enlarged in a grey cut portraying the
Viking style that is so prominent in Waterford’s heritage.
Completing the Retro W collection is Whiskey & Water,
which features a retro style DOF set of two, incorporating
the words Whiskey and Water in the same type style, in a
grey cut combined with a unique cut design on the base of
each.

Introduction

The remarkable Lismore story continues to be written in the form of new
giftware that combines various iterations of the world-famous pattern with
elements of gold metal and grey marble, that compliment the clarity of cut
crystal. This latest chapter in the Book of Lismore features candlesticks—
showcasing Lismore Opulence, Lismore Diamond and Lismore Revolution
patterns; and covered crystal boxes—featuring the same three Lismore
patterns—with fitted grey marble lids.
The curators of today’s Lismore go even further with a unique version of
