Opening Prayer

Opening Hymn Praise the Lord with the Sound of Trumpet The Faith We Sing 2020

Praise the Lord with the sound of trumpet, praise the Lord with the harp and lute,
praise the Lord with the gentle sounding flute.

Praise the Lord in the field and forest, praise the Lord in the city square,
praise the Lord anytime and anywhere.

Praise the Lord in the wind and sunshine, praise the Lord in the dark of night,
praise the Lord in the rain or snow or in the morning light.

Praise the Lord in the deepest valley, praise the Lord on the highest hill,
praise the Lord; never let your voice be still.

Praise the Lord with the crashing cymbal, praise the Lord with the pipe and string,
praise the Lord with the joyful songs you sing. Praise the Lord on a weekday morning,

Praise the Lord on a Sunday noon, praise the Lord by the light of sun or moon.

Praise the Lord in the time of sorrow, praise the Lord in the time of joy,
praise the Lord every moment; nothing in your praise destroy.

Praise the Lord in the peace and quiet, praise the Lord in your work or play.
Praise the Lord everywhere in every way!

Call to Worship
Once we were not a people,

but now we are the people of God;
Once we had not received mercy,

But In Christ we have received mercy.
As the people of God, let us together declare the praises of God.

Who called us out of darkness into his wonderful light.
Bless the Lord!

With all our lives we bless you and praise you, O God. Amen.

Sermon I Believe…in the Church Rev. Sherrod
Hymn UMH 548
We Respond to God’s Great Love

In Christ there Is No East or West

In Christ there is no east or west, in him no south or north;
but one great fellowship of love throughout the whole wide world.

In Christ shall true hearts everywhere their high communion find;
his service is the golden cord close binding human-kind.

In Christ is neither Jew nor Greek, and neither slave nor free;
both male and female heirs are made, and all are kin to me.

In Christ now meet both east and west, in him meet south and north;
all Christly souls are one in him through-out the whole wide earth.

The Apostle’s Creed Traditional Version

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below;

praise him above, yet heavenly host; praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

We Are Scattered to Serve God In Our World

Closing Hymn O Church of God, United UMH 547

O church of God, united to serve one common Lord, proclaim to all one message, with hearts in glad accord.
Christ ever goes before us; we follow day by day with strong and eager foot-steps along the upward way.

From every land and nation the ordered ranks appear; to serve one valiant leader they come from far and near.
They chant their one confession, they praise one living Lord, and place their sure dependence upon his saving word.

Though creeds and tongues may differ, they speak, O Christ, of thee; and in thy loving spirit we shall one people be.
Lord, may our faithful service and singleness of aim proclaim to all the power of thy redeeming name.

May they great prayer be answered that we may all be one, close bound, by love united in thee, God’s blessed Son:
To bring a single witness, to make the pathway bright, that souls which grope in darkness may find the one true light.
