DIGITAL FOOTPRINTS

CITY MONTESSORI SCHOOL, ASHARFABAD CAMPUS

The Digital Paraphernalia - One At A Time

Survival in the COVID world has impelled City Montessori School to stretch its thoughts
beyond the common imagination and penetrate into the future. It has reconditioned the
whole digital space and has compelled people and institutions to transform their ‘Ways of
Working and Thinking’. Globally, educational spaces have undergone transformation to
partner with technology more than ever before, to impart knowledge and reach out to
students remotely, thus resulting in effective online classrooms and virtual teaching.
Our recent novel highlights- Flipped-classroom model and the Experiential Learning trail
which wereexperimented digitally have been a gift for many of our students, most notably
for those with learning differences or more introverted kids. These models provided children
with the opportunity to review new learning materials prior to class beginning which boosted
their confidence and academic engagement during live discussions as well as allowed them
to process new material independently.
As our campus teachers work through the unknowns of the 2020-21 school year, educators
will have to continue to examine and evaluate how to maximize teacher-student
interactions. While this year is sure to bring more challenges, it is equally likely that there will
be an incredible growth and development along the way. It is our hope to take the best of
blended learning and adjust it to exist in a completely virtual world.

OUR TORCH BEARERS

"EDUCATION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT
WEAPON THAT YOU CAN USE TO CHANGE

THE WORLD"

1

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Over a span of few months, the education sector has witnessed a sea

change in the way lessons are transacted across the whole world. This

surely is an indicator of the further transformations in the future of

education. COVID – 19 has wiped off the conventional chalk and talk

teacher-led classroom scenarios replacing them with engaging

technology integrated, student led virtual classrooms.

The changes in the classroom dynamics are evident through the use of

a fast evolving model of hybrid nature incorporating the use of online,

blended, flipped, offline and integrated teaching pedagogy. CMS,

Asharfabad campus staff and students were proactively engaged in

such tools of teaching and learning. The resilience students have been

showing to enhance their learning skills through Experiential Learning

Programme is extraordinary. These self-motivated students have been

setting their personal goals through TMS andusing the Learning

techniques such as note making, mind mapping, question framing and

reflecting upon their learning styles.

The teachers of CMS Asharfabad campus have consistently adopted

strategies, practices and tools for embedding digital technologies in

their content. It goes without saying that preparation for online classes

is not an easy task –from lesson planning incorporating EdTech tools to

online content delivery has been a major innovation. The result is in

front of you all in the form of engaged students and active learners.

Teachers have undergone comprehensive trainings to deliver this

outstanding and astounding acceleration in the digested learning

process. We are providing a holistic platform to teachers and students

to empower them to understand and subsequently engrain practical Mrs. Trapti Dwivedi
use of these techniques to produce independent and self-directed Principal, Asharfabad Campus
future citizens. As John Donne wrote in Devotions (1624)- “No man is an

Island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of

the main.”- Collaborate "STUDENTS MUST LEARN
THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATING
PROPERLY AND EFFECTIVELY."

DIGITAL DAYS OF LEARNING

In the time of a pandemic, when people’s lives were altered
in both enormous and small ways, City Montessori School
decided to push its boundaries and work ceaselessly for the
benefit of young minds who need to be educated even in the
hardest of times.
Teachers are regularly conducting Online Classes for which
they are regularly undergoing various training sessions to
ensure that nothing but the best reaches our learners.
Students are motivated and trained by the teachers to attend
these classes efficiently. Teachers are making extensive use
of online teaching tools and Apps like Kahoot, Quizizz,
Learning App, Word Wall, Jamboard, Google Slides,
Mentimeter, Padlet, Edpuzzle, Tata Class Edge, Smart
Notebook etc. to make their virtual classes effective,
interesting and engaging.
We are also conducting various online activities like Parent-
Teacher Meetings, PLCs, Divine Seminar, Teachers’ Day
celebration, Model Class Presentations, E- TG Visits and
celebration of special days etc. This helps the teachers to
continue giving their constant support to the students which
also helps them to stay positive in this challenging time.

FLIPPED CLASSROOM

With the new set-up of virtual classes new
techniques are also introduced to enhance the
teaching-learning process. One such technique is of
a flipped classroom. It is a type of blended learning
where students are introduced to a content at
home and practice working through it during the
classes. It has a reverse pattern of classroom where
rather than the teacher introducing the topic, then
assigning the homework and project to be
completed by the students, the students prepare a
topic, assigned by the teacher, on their own and
present it to the class with the help of various ed-
tools such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Kahoot, Google
Slides, Quizzes, videos and many more. It helps
children develop self confidence in themselves and
become independent learners as well as enhance
their learning skills. In flipped classroom , students
go through the resource material assigned by the
teacher before coming to the class for discussion. It
helps the students to learn more and more
importantly, learn at their own pace.

VIDEO CONFERENCE

On 08.10.2020 CMS Asharfabad Campus students participated in a video conference event
organised by Generation Global wherein they participated with the students of Municipal
Kaspa High School, Andra Pradesh on the Ultimate Dialogue Adventure based on the topic
'Climate Change'. The students got an amazing platform to discuss their observation about
the changing climatic conditions in the current scenario and what effects can be taken to
prevent the adverse effects of climate change. Students got an opportunity to put forward
their points on how climate change is affecting us and our community and the role of
government and attitude of people towards such an alarming issue.
Through this video conference students got an exposure to discuss and put forward their
view points and have a dialogue experience with the students of other school. Training
sessions were also conducted by Generation Global for teachers to throw some light on the
"Ultimate Dialogue Adventure".

ENRICHMENT CLASSES-
SLOW AND STEADY WINS
THE RACE....

During the virtual classes it was important to give
personal touch to all the students as they were not
there physically with their teachers. For this
enrichment classes have proven to be very beneficial
for all the students. These classes have given the
learning experience that go above and beyond what is
possible in the traditional classroom. In small
personalized groups the teachers create an
environment in which the students are free to explore
individual interests, take full advantage of personal
qualities and utilize their teacher as a mentor and
facilitator. These classes help enhancing the process of
learning by integrating various styles of learning,
creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and
encouragement where students are free to be
themselves and celebrate their unique perspectives
and abilities.

8

PLC: PERSONALIZED
LEARNING CLASSES

PLCs were conducted by the teachers which
was a great way to share their classroom
experiences with other teachers. The teachers
conducted various activities and used different
Ed Tech tools to make their lessons interactive
and enhance the teaching-learning process.
They shared with other teachers how they
taught a particular topic in their classrooms,
what went well while teaching that topic and
what could have been taught to the students in
a better way depending upon their level of
understanding. These meetings were
conducted for improving the teaching
capabilities of all the teachers and preparing
them for their future lessons.

CELEBRATION OF
IMPORTANT DAYS

Un International Day of Peace

The UN international Day of peace was
observed on 21st September to promote peace
above all differences and to contribute in
building a culture of Peace. The students of the
primary section made posters, wrote slogans
and drew the pictures of dove, as the symbol of
peace, on the theme "Shaping peace together"
to spread compassion, kindness and hope and
to stand together with the UN to promote
peace and harmony amongst people all over
the world.

World Rose Day

World Rose Day was observed by the
students of City Montessori School at
Asharfabad campus on 22nd of September
to spread awareness about cancer. World
Rose Day is commemorated in the memory
of a 12 year old Melinda Rose of Canada,
diagnosed with Askin tumour, a rare form of
blood cancer. A rose, as a symbol of love
and care, is given to the cancer patients on
World Rose Day to tell them how much we
care for them. The students were shown
videos to make them aware about the
World Rose Day and this disease.
Handmade roses and beautiful cards were
made by the students to mark the
importance of this day.

ASSEMBLY

Just like a balanced breakfast, assembly is an
essential start to a young child's day and a
significant influence in helping them grow
into responsible adults. It begins with the recitation
of prayer – a way of talking to God and thanking
him. Students are reminded of their duties while
taking the pledge. A virtue talk during the assembly
helps them to become morally good while the
thought gives a kick start to their day. They also sing
few songs under the guidance of their music
teacher which refresh their mind. At the end,
the motivating words of their teacher and the
principal encourage them to stay positive
throughout the day. Thus, assembly is an excellent
resource for students to learn more about the
school and develop their moral values.

12

FROM THE COUNSELLOR'S
DESK

Coping up with stress and anxiety and for class X
students there was an intensive discussion on how
manage our time schedule by the school
counsellor Ms Nava Motallebi.
The students and counselor had a great
conversation on the topic about Mental illness and
how to cope with stress and anxiety. The students
of class X class had further discussions about time
management and how to prepare and schedule
their time properly. Few students even approached
the counselor personally for help. The day was
utilized beautifully and the sessions were very
fruitful for the students.

The Experiential Learning Trail

The teaching pedagogy at City Montessori School
has always focused on experiential learning,
communication skills and motivating students to
collaborate and work in teams. Experiential
learning aids in developing curiosity or nurturing
inquisition. It gives them an idea on how the
skills imbibed through their academic studies
can be applied beyond the classroom.
At Asharfabad campus, this project of substantial
learning was undertaken digitally both in the
Primary and Junior sections. It allowed the
children to integrate subjects together and
showcase the idea of acquiring effective
knowledge through reflection, critical analysis
and synthesis. Subjects like science and social
sciences went ahead with the experiential
project and blended them with various other
branches of studies. Our children who acted as
productive curators further indulged in creating
constructive presentations and documents with
the assistance of their able facilitators.
Through this process of experiential learning we
ensure that each student gets a platform to hone
their inherent skills and present useful ideas and
opinions before others.
