Previously, he was dean of workforce and economic development at
Bronx Community College (BCC) from 2016-2020- leading the de-
partments of Adult and Continuing Education, Workforce Develop-
ment, Career Services, Community and Economic Development, and

Matthew Eckhoff has served as the Director of the Accelerated Study in Associate

ic, financial, and social support services for up to 3,600 students. Previously, he
served as the Associate Director of this program, leading a team of twenty-four advi-
sors who provided holistic support services to 150 students’ caseloads.
As s first-generation and community college graduate, Matthew is very passionate
about the transformative power of higher education, particularly with these popula-
tions that he identifies with. Matthew is currently enrolled in the Doctorate in Higher
Education Administration program at the University of Southern Mississippi. He
looks forward to utilizing his education to continue helping provide individuals with increased access to higher education opportuni-

The ASAP team gives its warmest appreciation and gratitude to these students for helping our program dare to do more in the ways
of celebrating the most important product of LaGuardia: Student Success.
My name is Michelle Clerveaux and I am a former college drop out. The last time I was in school was
in 2000. Yes, 22 years ago, it's funny how time flies! A little about me is that I attended the Fashion
Institute of Technology way back then when I was a kid and didn't take school seriously and never
finished. I dropped out because I did not believe I needed school
to follow my dream to become a fashion designer. I worked in
the fashion industry for the past 20 years. Since I could hold a
pencil all I wanted to do was become a fashion designer. In high
school, I was chosen to do a 5-week workshop program with Def
Jam Records. The head of the art department saw my talent and
took me under his wing after the workshop was done and taught
me Illustrator and Photoshop. He then introduced me to people
in the fashion industry that I inturned for in my junior and senior
years of high school. So by the time I got to FIT I was already in
the fashion industry. I have designed for many different brands
like Jones of New York, Donna Karen, Jessica Simpson, Sean
John, Akademiks, Tommy Hilfiger, etc. My designs have been
sold in all the major retail stores like Macy's, JCPenney, Ross
Stores, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and the biggest of them all Walmart.
The fashion industry is super competitive and very rough espe-
cially on African Americans, I wanted out for the past 10 years.
You have to grow a super thick skin to survive it. I could write a
book on all the awful things that happened to me and the crazy
things that I witnessed. The fashion industry took out a major
toll on my health and landed me in the hospital in May of 2020
right at the height of the pandemic. I was told by the doctors in
the emergency room to thank God that I made it to the hospital
on time. I was in the hospital for a week scared and alone, it
gave me a lot of time to pray and to think about what I wanted
to do with my life next. Let's just say I am grateful to be alive
and I promised myself that I would quit the industry for good
and go back to school to pursue another goal in my life to prac-
tice law as an attorney.

Doctor Maria Entezari is Chairperson of the Natural Sciences Department at LaGuardia
Community College. Her Ph.D. specialization covers Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms
underlying inflammatory responses in neurodegenerative diseases and infection. She is a
true leader of the LaGuardia Campus and has had a hand in developing and cultivating
countless successful programs providing the best of opportunities for LaGuardia Students.
Specifically her work with the LaGuardia Humanitarian Initiative empowered the LaGuardia
Community to launch numerous humanitarian missions around the world, including the
drilling of new water wells in war torn south Sudan. Within LaGuardia she was critical in
developing new Learning Community models dedicated to serving Biology and Environ-
mental Science students within the LaGuardia Community.
Lucila Sanchez is an advisor with the ASAP program at LaGuardia Community Col-
lege. She graduated with her Bachelors from the State University of New York: The
Fashion Institute of Technology. She received her masters from the Graduate Cen-
ter at the City University of New York. When she’s not helping students register
for class, navigate LaGuardia or fill in their FAFSAs, she can be most often found
practicing Yoga, cooking delicious food and reading every book she can lay her
hands on. She is super proud of the Graduating Class of 2022 and looks forward to
their achievements.
Luis Ortiz was born in the Bronx and lived there for about a third of his life. His fami-
ly later moved for a better and after he graduated high school, he settled down un-
sure of what to do for a career. Luis had multiple jobs from private to government
sectors including non-profits and he especially loved volunteering for not only his
community but communities outside of his. Giving back is a big part of his life and he
wears his heart on his sleeve well. As religious as Luis is, he tries to stay neutral and
his family’s virtues encourages him to move forward with a happy heart and extend-
ed hand for anyone who needs it. He is known as the family MacGyver or the one-
man A-Team – Luis works well with his hands and manages to transfer his skills in
anything he does. Wanting to come to a community-based college like LaGuardia Community College, he has
completed a Degree in Business Administration - Using the colleges’ very own resources which have evolved into
a strong network of achievement. Now Luis Continues on at John Jay Community College of Criminal Justice com-
pleting his Major in Emergency Management with a minor in Public Administration and will one day complete a
Masters in Human Resources.
Maria Dorado Amigon is a Student Success Partner within the Career team
in ASAP at LaGuardia Community College. She is a LaGuardia alumnus
where she graduated with her Associate in science, where her focus was
Travel Tourism and Hospitality. Maria has recently graduated with her
bachelor's from CityTech focusing on Hospitality Management. Her attrib-
utes include being a caring, meticulous, and friendly being. She often finds
herself helping others most of the time, this is why she chose to work with-
in the ASAP support program, to aid students with achieving their educa-
tional, personal, and professional aspirations.
Mia Nicer is a soon to be graduate from the CUNY Baccalaureate for Inter-
disciplinary Studies studying Sustainable Design and Environmental Mar-
keting. She will be pursuing a Master’s degree in Design & Architecture. She
has created numerous works of art as part of her design curriculum with
many being featured in student galleries within CUNY. Her favorite medi-
ums for her art are Metalworking and Woodworking. Mia Nicer can be most
often found in the ASAP Resource Center helping students navigate LaGuar-
dia. As a LaGuardia alumni herself she wants to communicate her pride at
the graduating class of 2022!
Ajay Lall is an ASAP Alumni, and current John Jay Student who is
proud to work for the ASAP Career team. Through his time at
LaGuardia he has grown from a student into a full fledged profes-
sional. Today he has a career in marketing & sales thanks to the de-
gree he earned at LaGuardia Community College. His tireless work
with the CES team at ASAP LaGuardia has helped ensure that the
next generation of ASAP students have a bright career ahead of
them. Ajay’s hobbies include hitting the gym, studying for his 4-year
degree (which takes up most of his time these days) and always
maintaining that #grindmindset.

Student Performers
Yuri Feliciano, born and raised in Shizuoka Japan, is a flutist. While performing
as a singer-songwriter over 10 years, she decided to switch to playing flute
completely when she found her musical enthusiasm in Shakuhachi which is
Japanese bamboo flute 3 years ago. “Before I started to learn how to play
Shakuhachi, I wanted to learn a universal language in music”, that was when
she picked up flute. She has been playing flute for 2 years. Her influences are
Japanese traditional music, Western classical music, Latin music, and Jazz. Her
recent idol is Hubert Laws. Currently she is attending at LaGuardia Community
College majoring in Music Performance and getting ready to transfer to 4-year conservatory.
my name is Kayla Greene and I am a proud ASAP student who is majoring in
New Media Technology. I live in the Bronx New York and I live to inspire others
despite of the trauma I went through. My interest is doing physical activities,
communications/ journalism and storytelling. Spoken word is one of the things
I love to do when I have free time including traveling. My goal is to become a
writer in a big company and maybe own my own business.
My name is Daniell Tingling, and I am a Criminal Justice student at LaGuardia Communi-
ty College. I am also a graduating member of the Class of 2021! My next step is to attain
my bachelors degree from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I am also thankful for
everything I learned at LaGuardia and I am eager to begin my next steps in education!
Don’t forget: “The only impossibly journey is the one you never begin”
