for granted!

Be aware of hazards and risks. Don’t
perform your work like you’re relying on a
flip of the coin to keep you safe. Understand
that there are eventually consequences for
disregarding standardized safety practices,
policy, and procedure, they may not always
be immediate but the probability over the
long term of failure is likely.

It’s Better to Give Safely

Gifts and toys should inspire joy, not cause injuries. More than a
quarter of a million children were seriously injured in toy-related
incidents in 2017. Avoid safety hazards while gifting with these tips
from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the U.S. Consumer
Product Safety Commission:

• Toys are age-rated for safety, not for children’s intellect and physical
ability, so be sure to choose toys in the correct age range.

• Choose toys for children under 3 that do not have small parts which
could be choking hazards.

• For children under 10, avoid toys that must be plugged into an
electrical outlet.

• Be cautious about toys that have button batteries or magnets, which
can be harmful or fatal if swallowed

• When giving scooters and other riding toys, give the gift of appropriate safety gear, too; helmets should be worn at all times
and they should be sized to fit.

To find out about holiday toy safety and recalls, check the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website.

The San Antonio Business Journal has named Scott Bryan, Sales Representative-San Antonio,
and Chairman of the Board of Governors, Methodist Healthcare, as a 2020 Healthcare Hero. Scott
successfully led Methodist Healthcare through a period of unprecedented growth and achievement,
in some of its most challenging times. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he has had a daily call with
leaders throughout the organization, helped avoid employee furloughs and layoffs, and kept sufficient
supplies of personal protective equipment while producing good patient outcomes.

Scott said, “Not being a full-time health care professional myself, it has been challenging learning and

staying abreast of the intricacies of quality health care delivery. I have been fortunate to work alongside

many outstanding health care professionals, hospital administrators, physicians, nurses and fellow board

members to help me gain insight. I want to acknowledge and thank HOLT CAT and the

Holt family through their commitment to the community by allowing me the

flexibility in my job to be able to devote time to

Methodist Healthcare.”
