THIS ELEVATOR SHAFT WHICH WAS NEVER COMPLETED, WAS INTENDED TO HOUSE THE FIRST ELEVATOR IN MALAYSIA. THE ELEVATOR WAS PLANNED TO CONNECT ALL THE THREE FLOORS OF THE CASTLE INCLUDING THE ROOFTOP. ALTHOUGH THE ELEVATOR WAS NEVER INSTALLED, THE PRESENCE OF THE SHAFT REMAINS A NOTABLE HIGHLIGHT OF THE CASTLE, REFLECTING SMITH'S ASPIRATIONS FOR MODERNITY AND LUXURY IN HIS ESTATE.
