Opening scene
All students to be in a chocolate factory making and boxing the chocolate to a rhythm. Music in the
background. 5 golden tickets to be put into of the chocolate bars and put in different boxes. Boxes
being delivered to the shops.
Charlie Bucket standing in the middle of the stage. Joined by his mum, dad and four grandparents
around a bed, eating their cabbage soup and chatting happily to one another.
Narrator
Here begins our story with a young boy called Charlie Bucket. Charlie had a loving family who adored
him. His family were not rich or powerful in any way, but Charlie was the luckiest boy in the world,
he just didn’t know it yet.
Scene 1
Mr Bucket is sitting doing his job at the toothpaste factory. He is putting the lids on the toothpaste
tubes. He spots a lid that is not quite perfect and puts it into his pocket and then carries on working.
Narrator
Charlie’s Dad worked in the local toothpaste factory, he sat for long hours putting the tops on the
tubes of toothpaste. It wasn’t a particularly exciting job, but every so often he found a funny shaped
lid that would be perfect for Charlie’s model Chocolate Factory based on Willy Wonka’s great
factory.
Mr Bucket walking home and giving Charlie the wonky lid. Charlie hugs his and his Dad and puts the
lid on his model factory.
Scene 2
Grandpa Joe, Grandma Georgina, Grandpa George and Grandma Josephine in bed. Charlie,
Mrs Bucket and Mr Bucket are sitting around the bed too.
Grandma Josephine
Charlie, your model of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory is really coming along!
Grandpa Joe
It looks just like it! Did you know, I used to work for the great Willy Wonka, Charlie on Cherry Street!
Charlie
Really Grandpa! Tell me about him!
Flashback to when Grandpa Joe used to work in a sweet shop for Willy Wonka. Willy Wonka is
standing in his shop behind a huge lollipop. Grandpa Joe comes up to him.
Grandpa Joe
Mr Wonka! We’re out of chocolate birds!
Willy Wonka
Now let me see here.
Willy pulls a small chick out from behind his ear and gives it to Grandpa Joe. Grandpa Joe looks
confused!
Grandpa Joe
Oh. Um. Thank you Mr Wonka!
Narrator
Willy Wonka was a chocolate and sweet genius! His sweet and candy was the best selling all over the
world.
Charlie
Wow, Grandpa you’re so lucky to have met him!
Narrator
Willy Wonka’s business grew and grew and eventually he opened the biggest chocolate factory in
the world!
Willy Wonka standing in front of a crowd who are all cheering him as he cuts the ribbon and opens
his chocolate factory.
Willy Wonka
I declare the chocolate factory open!
Crowds cheering.
All students to be in the factory making sweets and chocolates, packing boxes and sending them out
for delivery.
Grandpa Joe
Unfortunately, there were people out to steal his recipes, and they sent spies into the factory to get
the secrets.
Flashback to Willy Wonka standing in front of the crowds again and hanging his head low.
Willy Wonka
I have decided to close my factory, forever.
Crowds are shocked and gasp. Willy Wonka walks off, looking unhappy.
Charlie
He said forever, but it's open now!
Mrs Bucket
Ah, you see when grown ups say forever they really mean a very long time!
Charlie
But there must be people running the factory now? Who's running the machines?
Grandma Georgina
Think about it Charlie, do you ever see anyone go in or out?
Grandpa Joe
All there is the chocolate coming out.
Grandpa George
It's a mystery, and will always be a mystery. Nobody will ever know what it's like inside that amazing
factory.
Charlie looks sad. The Buckets all finish their soup and Mr Bucket collects the bowls.
Grandma Georgina
Hugging Charlie and whispering in his ear.
Nothing's impossible, Charlie.
Charlie goes up to bed.
All
Goodnight, Charlie
Charlie
Goodnight.
Scene 3
Students putting leaflets up on the walls. Leaflets say 'Dear people of the World. I Willy Wonka have
decided to open up my factory to 5 lucky golden ticket holders. There is one very special prize that
will be given away on the day to the winning child.' Voiceover of Willy Wonka reading this message
as the posters are put up.
Scene 4
News report on the golden tickets. News reporter sitting at a desk
News Reporter
The world has woken up to the news that Willy Wonker is opening up his factory to 5 lucky golden
ticket holders.
Scenes of people buying the chocolate bars excitedly.
Scene 5
Charlie's house. All the grandparents are in bed.
Grandpa Joe
Charlie, you may get one of those tickets! You've got as much chance as anyone else!
Grandpa George
No he won’t, he only gets one bar a year on his birthday. The one who finds it will be big and fat!
Augustus Gloop and Mrs Gloop standing in front of news reporters. Augustus is holding his Golden
ticket and eating a chocolate bar.
Reporter
How do you find the golden ticket Augustus?
Augustus
Well, I was eating a chocolate bar and I tasted something that did not taste like chocolate. I pulled it
out and realised it was a golden ticket!
Reporter
How did you celebrate?
Augustus
I ate more chocolate!
Grandpa George
See I told you.
Scene 6
Veruca Salt and her family are standing in front of the cameras, Veruca is holding up her golden
ticket and smiling.
Mr Salt
When my Veruca wanted a ticket, I told the staff at my factory to start shelling Wonka Bars rather
than peanuts. Then eventually we found one. My darling Veruca was so excited.
Scene 7
The Buckets house. Mr and Mrs Bucket arrive through the door and holding a wrapped up Wonka
Bar.
Mrs Bucket
Charlie, we thought you might want to open your present a day early!
Charlie sits down on the bed with his grandparents and slowly opens the present to find no ticket
inside. They all look disappointed. Charlie shares the chocolate with everyone.
Scene 8
Violet is standing with her Mum in front of the cameras holding her ticket. Charlie and his family are
reading about her in the newspaper at the same time.
Violet
I'm a gum chewer, I've won trophies. I'm a champion, and I switched to chocolate when I knew
about the prize.
Mrs Beauregard
She's just a driven young woman, I don’t know where she gets it.
Grandpa George
What a horrid little girl.
The Buckets watch the TV to see that Mike TV has won the next ticket. Mike is sitting playing his
video games in front of the cameras. His Dad is standing there too.
Reporter
Mike, what did the chocolate taste like?
Mike
I don’t know, I hate chocolate.
Charlie
Dad, why aren't you at work?
Mr Bucket
Summer vacation.
Mrs Bucket
It's ok Mr Bucket, You'll find another job soon enough. Until then, I'll just thin down the soup.
Grandpa Joe whispers to Charlie to come to speak to him.
Grandpa Joe
Charlie, let's have another try at finding that ticket. Take this and run to the shop, come straight back
and we will open it together.
Charlie
Are you sure.
Grandpa Joe
Absolutely, go!
Charlie runs off. He comes back with a bar, they open it together. There isn't a ticket inside, they both
look disappointed.
Scene 9
Charlie is walking and finds a £5 note on the ground. He heads to a newsagents and he overhears a
conversation.
Customer
Can you believe it was all a hoax, faking a golden ticket! How ridiculous!
Charlie
One Wonka's Fudgalicious bar please.
Charlie takes the bar, opens it slowly and finds a golden ticket inside!
Newsagent worker
Oh my goodness! You've won Wonka's last golden ticket, in my shop! Now run home and don’t
speak to anyone on the way!
Charlie runs home.
Charlie
I've found it, I've found the last golden ticket!
Scene 10
All the families are waiting at the gates of the factory.
Willy Wonka
Welcome, please enter!
All move forward towards Willy Wonka.
Willy Wonka
Welcome to my factory! I shake you warmly by the hand.
Willy Wonka looks uncomfortable and doesn't shake any hands.
Veruca
Who are you?
Grandpa Joe
He's Willy Wonka!
They all enter the factory.
Mr Teevee
It's very hot in here.
Willy Wonka
I have to keep it hot as my workers are used to a hot climate.
Charlie
Who are your workers?
Willy Wonka
All in good time. Now here is the main attraction, my chocolate room!
All look around in amazement!
Willy Wonka
Everything here is edible. Go ahead, try anything you like! See that river over there, its the finest
chocolate, and it's mixed using a waterfall. It's the only chocolate mixing waterfall in the world!
They all go off any try the sweets and chocolate. Veruca spots an Oompa Lumpa.
Veruca
Daddy, who's that?
Willy Wonka
They're my workers, the Oompa Lumpa's from Lumpa Land!
Mr Teevee
Sir, there's no such thing as Lumpa Land!
Augustus is near the river, tries to taste the chocolate.
Willy Wonka
Little boy, my chocolate must be untouched by human hands!
Augustus falls in!
Mrs Gloop
My boy, help, save him!
Narrator
Augustus was lost up the giant tube!
Willy Wonka indicates to the Oompa Lumpa
Willy Wonka
Please take Mrs Gloop to the chocolate packing room to get her son.
Mrs Gloop leaves the chocolate room with the Oompa Lumpa.
Scene 11
All getting on board a boat. The Oompa Lumpa starts rowing. Arrive at the inventing room
Willy Wonka
Welcome to the inventing room!
Charlie
Mr Wonka, do you remember your first chocolate?
Willy Wonka
Indeed I do.
Flashback to Willy Wonka sitting in front of his dad. Wilbur is holding a bowl of chocolates.
Narrator
Willy Wonka was the son of a great dentist who hated anything sweet.
Wilbur
Chocolates! These will rot your teeth. I do not want you eating these.
Wilbur throws the chocolates away, but Willy Wonka gets them and tries them. End of flashback.
Willy Wonka
Please don't touch anything in this room.
Violet picks up a piece of chewing gum.
Willy Wonka
That is a piece of gum that is a full 3 course meal!
Violet puts it in her mouth.
Willy Wonka
Little girl, I wouldn't do that.
Violet
Wow, its tomato soup! Mmm, roast beef and now blueberry pie!
Mrs Beauregarde
Violet, you're turning violet!
Violet gets bigger and bigger. Willy Wonka signals to an Oompa Lumpa.
Willy Wonka
Take Violet and her Mother to the juicing room immediately!
Scene 12
They all lead to the nut sorting room.
Mr Salt
Ah, nuts! This is my business too Mr Wonka!
Willy Wonka
These squirrels are trained to get the nuts out of the shells.
Veruca
Daddy, I want a squirrel and I want it now!
Mr Salt
How much for a squirrel?
Willy Wonka
They're not for sale.
Veruca pushes past everyone and goes after a squirrel. They attack her and push her into a hole for
bad nuts.
Mr Salt
Veruca! Daddy's coming to save you!
Mr Salt goes down the hole after Veruca.
Scene 13
The remaining families go into the TV room. They all put goggles on.
Willy Wonka
This is a great room! I've invented a way to send chocolate over the TV and land in people's living
rooms!
Mike
That's impossible! Come on then, send me instead!
Mike runs towards the camera and disappears. He lands in the TV and is only 5cms tall!
Mr Teevee
What have you done to my son!
Willy Wonka indicates to his Oompa Lumpa.
Willy Wonka
Take Mr Teevee and Mike to the taffy puller and stretch him out! Now, how many children are left?
Grandpa Joe
Just Charlie!
Willy Wonka
Oh my dear boy, you've won!
Charlie
Wow! What have I won?
Willy Wonka
The whole factory.
Grandpa Joe and Charlie look stunned.
Willy Wonka
I realised that I needed someone to take over from me what I could no longer work here, so that's
why I had the competition to choose the best child for the job. And that's you Charlie!
Scene 14
Inside the Buckets house. Charlie and Willy Wonka arrive home. They are all having dinner.
Everyone
Hello Charlie, hello Willy!
Charlie
Now what do you think of having popping candy inside the chocolate hearts?
Mrs Bucket
Now boys, no business at the dinner table!
Willy Wonka
I think you're onto something, Charlie!
Narrator
Not only had Willy Wonka found a wonderful boy to work with him at the factory, he had
something he wanted even more. A family. And what is more, life had never been sweeter.
