How you will be assessed
For this year only, all assessment is by means of written assignments. The regulations
governing these assignments are tough. You must submit assignments on time and there is
only one opportunity to resubmit them if they do not pass. However, you will find that you
develop assignment-writing skills as you progress through the year. Don’t be put off if
the first few assignments don’t achieve the sort of grade you are hoping for. You can
make up the overall grade for your course later in the year and in year 2.
Getting off to a good start
This is a very tough programme, so to make the most of it please remember these
tips.
Get organised from the start. You will need a file and dividers so you can organise your
notes and assignments by units. If you can’t afford to do this, see a teacher and we will do
our best to get what you need within college.
We will be setting homework and assignments from the start of the course. It is essential
that you complete all this work on time and to the best of your ability.
In October we will look carefully at how you are doing, and we may advise some people
to take an alternative qualification. This will be based entirely on what we think is best for
you. We may be able to move you on to a different course at College or we may advise an
apprenticeship.
You have more free time in the week than you will have been used to at school. However
you will also have a lot more independent study than you have had in the past. Don’t fill
all your free time with paid work; you will have loads to do for us.
