Dear Parent/Carer

COVID-19 case in Primary 3/4

We have been made aware of one or more cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in your
child’s class.

What do I need to do now?

You or your child do not need to self-isolate unless you are contacted by Test and Protect
(this could be a phone call or a text). If you or your child has not been contacted by Test
and Protect and showing no symptoms of COVID-19, they can continue to attend school
as normal.

We recommend that your child takes an LFD test

To help reduce further spread of COVID-19 in the school, we recommend that your child
takes a Lateral Flow Device (LFD) test.

LFD tests can be collected from your local pharmacy, COVID-19 test centres or by
ordering online at: www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-
tested/pages/no-covid-symptoms.

Please record your LFD results, whether negative, positive or void on the online portal
at: www.covidtest.scot OR by phoning 119.

When you’ve reported your child’s result, you’ll receive a result confirmation and isolation
guidance if the test is positive.

What if my child tests positive?

If your child tests positive, they will need to self-isolate. Test and Protect will be in touch to
provide full details around self-isolation guidance, this will be either a text message or a
phone call. Isolation for household members depends on their age and vaccination status
and this is outlined in Appendix 1 below.

What if my child has symptoms of COVID-19?

Please do not use LFD tests if your child is feeling unwell or showing symptoms of
COVID-19.
If your child has a fever, cough or loss of taste or smell, or are showing milder symptoms
such as a sore throat, headache, upset stomach or cold like symptoms, they should stay
off school and book a PCR test.
To book a PCR test visit www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
or https://www.nhsinform.scot/test-and-protect or by calling 0800 028 2816.
Vaccination
Vaccination is highly effective in preventing severe illness from COVID-19. If you are 12
and over, and have not received your first vaccination or are due your second dose,
please use one of our drop in clinics. Find out more at:
https://www.nhsaaa.net/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-19-vaccination-appointments/
What if cases continue to rise in the school?
If there are further cases of COVID-19 in the school, Test and Protect and NHS Ayrshire &
Arran’s Health Protection team will work together with the school and Local Authority to
manage the situation. We will make sure we keep all staff, parents and carers informed of
any changes.
Please do read the additional information in Appendix 1, we think it is useful information.
Yours sincerely

Appendix 1.

If your child has a positive Covid test result then isolation advice for household
contacts is as follows;
Fully vaccinated adult contacts over 18 and 4 months – If you are fully vaccinated (3
doses with more than 14 days since last dose), then you can take a daily LFD test
instead of self-isolating. Daily LFDs should be taken for 7 days in a row after notification
as a contact or for the 10 days of your child’s isolation period.
Household members under the age of 18 and 4 months – Can take a daily LFD test
instead of self-isolating. Daily LFDs should be taken for 7 days in a row after notification
as a contact or for the 10 days of their contact’s isolation period.

Household members aged under 5 years are advised to take a LFD test, but do not
need to continue these for 7 days. If they do not have any symptoms, they do not need
to isolate.

If any household members over the age of 18 years and 4 months are not fully
vaccinated (3 doses, or less than 14 days since last dose) then they must self-isolate
for 10 days and book a PCR test. Even if the PCR is negative, they must continue to
self-isolate.

If any LFD tests are positive, the household member should self-isolate and record their
result on the online portal at: www.covidtest.scot OR by phoning 119. From the 6th
January, you no longer need a confirmatory PCR following a positive LFD, Test and
Protect will act based on the positive LFD result and your child will be considered to be a
confirmed positive.

If a LFD test is positive but a PCR has also been taken and the result is negative,
we will still act on the positive LFD due to current high level of cases in the
community.

Should anyone in your household become unwell and develop symptoms of COVID-19,
they should book a PCR test.
