 Head Teacher Message

Welcome to our second digital newsletter. February
has been another busy month with lots to celebrate at
Blacklands.

We are particularly proud to have been awarded our
third green flag for our great eco work. Well done to our
Eco Council who work hard ensuring we follow eco
friendly principles.

Thank you to the families who attended our digital
learning stay and share event. As per your request we
are planning some work on digital learning and internet
safety just for parents/carers. Details inviting you to this
event will follow.

We hope you enjoy looking back at what we’ve been
up to this month. March is set to be another busy
month, with us stopping on the 29th for the Easter
holidays. Enjoy!

In partnership,

Elaine McNeil

 Message from the Office

Can we ask that Science Centre trips forms are returned

to school ASAP.

Please contact us if your child is going to be off.

Please ensure your child knows the arrangements for
after school each day. We get a high volume of calls
each day, often at 2.55pm from parents/carers asking
to pass on messages.

Please try and make non-emergency doctor/dentist
appointments for before/after school to minimise class
interruptions.

A reminder list of dates is included in this newsletter.
We ask that you check this for information before
phoning the school, alternatively check our website or
twitter feed. Please note twitter should not be used to
discuss individual children or pass messages to the
school.

Please remember our office hours are 8.30am-4pm
Monday-Thursday and 8.30am-3pm Fridays. We do
not work out with these hours therefore the telephone
will not be answered.

Kind regards

Mrs Smith.

Family Fun Club

Tuesdays at Blacklands from 3pm

Jenna Maltby, the school’s Family Learning Worker
invites you to come along Tuesdays after school and take
part in some fun activities with your child(ren). You don’t
need to come every week and extended family members
are welcome.

Jenna is also available to help you support your child’s
learning. If you are having trouble with homework- Jenna
can meet with you at school or at home and work with
you and your child 1:1. She’s available Tuesday afternoons
and Thursday mornings.

Jenna is also facilitating volunteering opportunities for
our parents/carers with the potential to receive
accredited qualifications for your contributions to our
school. This is a ‘cross campus’ learning opportunity for
primary schools within Kilwinning. Whether you are
currently volunteering within the school or you would like
the opportunity to; please come along and speak to
Jenna.

VALENTINE DISCO

The Parent Council Valentine Disco was a great
success!

Thank you to the parents/carers who organised
the event and who supported the evening. The
disco was only possible with your
support.

Scottish Opera
Performance

Save the date- Monday 16th April (PM)

Our P4-7 pupils are busy rehearsing for a day
with the Scottish Opera.

They are learning all about the Emperor of Ming
dynasty China, Zhu Di, who decided to send out
an enormous fleet of nine-masted ships, in order
to increase China’s trade and influence in the
mysterious lands to the west.

As the story crosses three continents, the lyrics
are sung in Chinese, Hindi and Swahil.

Regular school attendance is important for your
child's education. Parents/carers are responsible
for making sure your children receive full-time
education.

We will contact you if your child’s attendance drops
below 90%. Please speak to us if there are
particular problems with your child’s attendance.

Burns Lunch

Primary 6/7 organised a Burns Lunch for
all the classes in our school. They invited
Jim Butler to pipe in the haggis and two
Kilwinning Academy pupils with their
teacher to entertain everyone. All our
classes took a turn of saying their Burns
poem before the school had haggis,
neeps and tattles for lunch!

Burns Club Awards

Each class had
three or four
representatives who
recited their poem
to members of
Kilwinning Burns
Club. We are so proud of all of our confident
children! Marcie won the P1-3 prize, Bailey
the P4/5 prize and Kerris the P6/7 trophy.
They will go on to
represent our school at
the Kilwinning Burns Club
Founders Day Awards -
held at the No.0 Masonic
Club at 0930 on Saturday
24th March. Good luck
everyone!
