Primary 4/5
Parent and Carer Newsletter

Welcome
Welcome to Primary 4/5 at Blacklands Primary School! My name is Mrs Fisher
and I cannot wait to spend the year being further up the school again. Most of
you will know me as Miss Pursley, but I got married over the summer! I will be
your first point of contact for any queries you may have regarding your child’s
learning experience. The class have hit the ground running this week and are
already starting to settle into routines and expectations, which is wonderful.

Health and Wellbeing
Health and Wellbeing is our priority at Blacklands, it always has to come first.
Children must be ready to learn. We are building new relationships, making
friends and working out how to foster the best learning community to meet the
needs of everyone. We will also start using a fantastic new resource next week
myhappymind.org Please feel free to have a look at it online at home with your
child, it’s free to set up your own account and has the option to use it ‘at home’ or
‘in school’. Please always use the ‘at home’ version so we don’t overlap too
much.

Literacy and English
The children decided we would start a book study of Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory and seem to be really engrossed in this already. They have decided that
their first class goal is to earn enough pompoms to watch the movie in school, with
some chocolate, so this is probably part of where their enthusiasm is coming from!
We will do lots of cross-curricular learning around this topic.

Numeracy and Mathematics
For the majority of this term we are revisiting and revising lots of the concepts that
have already been taught. The class is made up of a mixture of children who have
all had their own personal experience with lockdowns etc so it is crucial we make
sure they have their basic number operations absolutely concrete, mental agility
will be a big focus.

Other
As you know, the world is starting to open up again, hooray! However, we still have
lots of procedures in place to ensure everyone is as safe as possible. To ensure
we do this we will still be taking lots of our learning outside, making the best use
of sanitisation products and continuing to maximise airflow across the school.
