Head Teacher Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

It’s hard to believe that the first month 2020 has come to an
end. There has been lots happening in school and lots of
activities and trips planned for the term ahead.

We have a new set of clubs up and running. There are clubs
for children of all ages at our school. If you have an interest
or hobby you would like to share and would be keen to help
please let us know.

We have another ‘Discussion Dinner’ planned and this will be
on 27th February. Details to follow but the theme will be
‘Internet Safety’.

This month’s newsletter contains the dates you should
already have, along with any new dates we have set for the
rest of the school year.

As always, please contact the office if
you would like a chat or a meeting to
discuss any issues or concerns you
may have.

In partnership,

Susan Lauder
Head Teacher

 Message from the Office

The first thing to bring to your attention is the number of
mobile phones we have brought to the office each day.
Can you please consider if it is necessary for your child to
have a phone on their journey to/from school? If children
must bring these, these are at their own risk and they
must be handed into their class box at 9am and collected
at 3pm.

There are lots of phone calls to the office on a daily basis
about a whole matter of issues. Often, people wish to
speak to Mrs Lauder or Mrs Gibson. It is helpful, in the first
instance, if you could share as much with us as you can
as it may be that the class teacher could help or a
message could be passed to the SLT and a reply given to
you. All conversations, are of course confidential.

A reminder that we have our XPRESSIONS APP -
which is a free download for your phone. We are
putting messages out regularly to keep you informed.

Please remember our office hours are 8.30am-4pm
Monday to Thursday and 8.30am-3.30pm on a Friday. The
phone is not manned out-with these times so will not be
answered.

Kind regards

Mrs Smith

Children’s University has arrived at Blacklands
Primary School!

Look out for the banner outside the school to
launch the next exciting phase of the project.
We talked about Children’s University at our last
discussion dinner, but if you didn’t get a chance
to come along to that, why not check out the
website to understand more about this great
opportunity we are offering our Blacklands pupils
and families,

http://childrensuniversity.scot/

We have children already signed up to take part
in this exciting project to work towards a degree
with the Children’s University by doing fun and
interesting things at clubs and outside of
school.  If you and your child/children are not
already signed up, just let us know and we’ll
send you the simple form to complete.

A Children’s University club will be starting up
after the February break for children already
signed up, so please look out in bags for a
letter and permission slip.  We will also be
hosting a weekly Children’s University Catch
Up Breakfast with the help of Jade, our family
learning worker, for parents/carers to come
along to, where you can enjoy a yummy
breakfast, chat about what you and your
children have been doing, and get some fresh
ideas of activities and trips to earn credits
towards your child’s CU degree!

Any questions you might have about
Children’s University, Mrs Wilde or Mr Graham
will be happy to answer.

ATTENDANCE AND LATE-COMING

Attendance and late-coming is an issue for our school with
some families arriving up to 30 minutes late every day and
many children taking regular unnecessary days off
school. This equals a lot of work missed which most
children can’t afford.

We strongly urge you to get child(ren) to school on time and
avoid days off unless your child is sick.
If you are struggling to get your child(ren) to school please
ask us to help. We have lots of support available and want
to work with you not against you.
