Chief Paul E. Sullivan, Jr. - IAFC SHS Section Campaign Brochure

MEET CHIEF PAUL SULLIVAN, JR.

I have been active in the fire service for over 30 years, having started my career in
1987, in Frederick, Maryland as a volunteer and working my way up through the ranks.
For the last three years, I have held both the Assistant Chief and Chief positions for
Middle River (MD) Fire & Rescue. In addition to my fire service positions, I am also a
dedicated safety professional with over 20 years of safety, health and risk
management experience. Prior to entering the private sector, I worked for federal
OSHA and Maryland Occupational Safety & Health.

In addition to having earned a MS Degree in Safety Sciences, I possess the following
safety related certifications; Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety &
Health Manager (CSHM), Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST) and
Fire Department Safety Officer. Additional certifications include Chief Fire Officer
(CFO), Certified Fire Protection Specialist and Certified Emergency Manager (CEM).

Today, I serve as the 2nd Vice President for the Eastern Division IAFC and the President
of the Maryland Fire Chiefs Association. On my downtime, I enjoy spending time with
my daughter and educating my fellow fire service professionals. As an Emergency
Services Instructor with the University of Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute (MFRI), I enjoy
teaching various safety officer and management level classes. In addition to
teaching for MFRI, I am also am an active Nationally Registered and Maryland
Paramedic.

Our personnel are our number one asset and their safety and health must be
paramount to any organization and its leadership. I am asking you for a chance to
participate on the IAFC SHS Section Board of Directors. I recognize the importance of
advancing and educating today’s fire service in the many critical areas to include
operations, cancer awareness and prevention, suicide and PTSD awareness and
prevention and overall heart healthy habits. Although I do believe that we have
made strides, there remains much work to be completed.

Today, I am asking for your vote to the IAFC SHS Section Board of Directors. I am asking
you for the opportunity to allow me to work for all of you. As one of my long time
mentors Chief Jim Seavey used to tell me, “You can’t make change if you don’t get
involved and engaged.” In closing, I appreciate your time, consideration, and vote.
