(3 JULY 2023)- WEEK 1 Today was my first day of the Microteaching class. Madam Nirmala briefed us on the course syllabus, which includes the topics we will be covering, the assignments and projects we will be working on, and the assessment criteria. She also advised us to take a picture of the class as evidence of our attendance. I am excited to learn about microteaching, as I believe it will be a valuable skill for me to develop as a future teacher. I am particularly interested in learning about the different teaching methods and strategies that can be used in microteaching. I am also looking forward to getting feedback on my own teaching practices. I am a little bit nervous about microteaching, as I have never taught a class before. However, I am confident that I can learn and improve with practice. I am also grateful for the opportunity to receive feedback from Madam Nirmala and my classmates. I am committed to doing my best in this class and learning as much as I can about microteaching. I believe that this class will be a valuable experience for me and will help me to become a better teacher. I will practice my teaching skills by giving short lessons to my classmates. I will research different teaching strategies and techniques. I will get feedback from my peers on my teaching. I will prepare for the microteaching simulation. I am confident that I can achieve my goal of becoming a successful teacher by taking advantage of the opportunities that microteaching has to offer. Evidence:
Evidence: (4 JULY 2023)- WEEK 1 Today, we learned about the definition of teaching, the teaching process, the advantages and disadvantages of microteaching, the principles of microteaching, the types of microteaching skills, and the procedure of microteaching. We also watched a video of a student' s mock teaching presentation and discussed about it. I learned that teaching is a complex process that involves engaging learners, designing content, delivering lessons, assessing learning, and reflecting on one ' s practice. It is important for teachers to have a deep understanding of the teaching process and to be able to use a variety of teaching methods and strategies. Microteaching is a teaching method that allows teachers to practice their skills in a safe and supportive environment. It is a valuable tool for teachers to learn new skills and to improve their existing skills. In short, microteaching is a valuable tool for teachers to learn new skills and to improve their existing skills. It is based on the principles of focusing on one skill at a time, teaching small amounts of content, practicing makes perfect, experimenting with different methods, getting feedback, reflecting on your teaching, and never stopping learning. The video of the student' s mock teaching presentation was helpful because it showed how the student planned and delivered the lesson. It was also helpful to hear the feedback from my peers. Watching videos of other teachers teaching can be a valuable way to learn and improve one ' s own teaching skills. The microteaching procedure involves planning, teaching, getting feedback, and reflecting on lessons. Watching videos of other teachers teaching can be helpful. Overall, I found today ' s class to be very informative and helpful. I am excited to continue learning about microteaching and to apply it to my teaching practice.
(5 JULY 2023)- WEEK 1 I joined the micro-teaching class 20 minutes late, and Mdm. Nirmala was discussing with the class students about how literature develops students ' proficiency. The class was discussing how literature can help students develop their language skills. Literature can expose students to new vocabulary and grammar structures. It can also help students develop their critical thinking skills. The government tried to develop literature into comics to attract more students to read, but it was not successful. I think many students are losing interest in reading because of electronic devices and the decline of traditional libraries. In the past, the focus of language learning was on grammar, but now it is more on using language in real-world contexts. We were divided into 3- 2 pairs to come up with 5 strategies in the 21st learning century and 1 suitable classroom activity for each of the strategy. We learned about the round-robin, hot seat, and gallery walk strategies. These are all active learning strategies that can help students engage with the material and learn more effectively. I enjoyed the micro-teaching class and learned a lot about different strategies for teaching English. I am particularly interested in the round-robin, hot seat, and gallery walk strategies. I think I would like to try using them in my own teaching. I also reflected on my own teaching practice and thought about how I could use the strategies that we learned today in my own classroom. I am always looking for ways to improve my teaching, and I think the micro-teaching class has given me some valuable insights. I thought the micro-teaching class was a valuable experience and I am grateful for the opportunity to have participated in it. Evidence:
(6 JULY 2023) - WEEK 1 Today, I attended a micro-teaching class on lesson planning. Madam Nirmala started by explaining what a lesson plan is and why it is important. She then discussed the different components of a lesson plan, such as the set induction, the learning objectives, the activities, and the assessment. She also talked about the importance of cross-curricular elements in lesson planning. We had a chance to practice writing a lesson plan. We were given a focused skill, a content standard, a learning standard, and a learning objective. We then had to use these elements to write a lesson plan that included a set induction, activities, and assessment. I found the lesson plan activity to be very helpful. It gave me a chance to practice using the different components of a lesson plan. I also learned a lot from the feedback that I received from my classmates and from Madam Nirmala. Overall, I found the micro-teaching class to be very informative and helpful. I learned a lot about lesson planning and I am now better prepared to write my own lesson plans. I am also grateful for the opportunity to practice writing a lesson plan and to receive feedback from my classmates and from Madam Nirmala. Evidence:
(10 JULY 2023)- WEEK 2 Learning outcomes are statements of what students should know or be able to do after completing a course or program. Bloom ' s taxonomy is a model of cognitive learning that can be used to design learning activities that target different levels of thinking. SMART learning outcomes are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based. An example of a SMART learning outcome is "Students will be able to create a lesson plan that includes clear learning objectives, teaching and learning activities, and feedback and assessment." Bloom ' s taxonomy has six levels: remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, and create. The character Riley in the movie "Inside Out" uses the different levels of Bloom ' s taxonomy to help her understand her emotions and come up with a solution. For example, Joy and Bing Bong remember that they used the machine to get to Imagination Land. They understand that the machine works by singing a specific song. They apply their knowledge of the machine to solve the problem of getting to Imagination Land. They analyze the problem by breaking it down into smaller parts and considering all the factors involved. They evaluate the different options they have and decide which one is the best. In short, Joy and Bing Bong use their knowledge and understanding of the machine to solve the problem of getting to Imagination Land. They do this by remembering what they know about the machine, understanding how it works, applying their knowledge to the problem, analyzing the problem, and evaluating the different options. Effective learning outcomes are student-centered, specific, and measurable. They should also be relevant to the course content and achievable within a reasonable timeframe. The SMART acronym can be used to help write effective learning outcomes. I will review the slides from the micro-teaching class and take notes on the key points. I will also practice writing SMART learning outcomes for different courses. I will watch the clip from "Inside Out" again and think about how I can use Bloom ' s taxonomy in my own teaching. I will talk to my classmates about their experiences with writing learning outcomes and using Bloom ' s taxonomy. Evidence:
(11 JULY 2023)- WEEK 2 Today ' s micro-teaching class taught me about learning objectives. Learning objectives should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. They should be aligned with Bloom ' s Taxonomy, which has 6 levels of cognitive thinking. The ABCD acronym can be used to create more specific and measurable learning objectives. For example, a learning objective could be: "By the end of the session, students will be able to identify the main characters in the novel "The Great Gatsby " by listing their names on a blank sheet of paper with 80% accuracy." It is important to explain learning objectives to students so that they know what is expected of them. Madam Nirmala gave us some tips on how to explain learning objectives to students, such as using the whiteboard and visuals. I learned a lot about learning objectives and how to construct them effectively. I am now better equipped to create learning objectives that are aligned with Bloom ' s Taxonomy and that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. I am also better equipped to explain learning objectives to students in a way that they can understand. I learned some general tips on how to teach effectively, such as being organized and prepared, using a variety of teaching methods, and being respectful of students ' emotions. I am grateful for the opportunity to have participated in today ' s micro-teaching class. I learned a lot and I am confident that this knowledge will help me to become a better teacher. Evidence:
(12 JULY 2023) - WEEK 2 Today ' s micro-teaching class was a great opportunity to learn more about Bloom ' s Taxonomy and how to apply it in my teaching. I really enjoyed the activity where we each wrote a verb on a piece of paper that relates to Bloom ' s Taxonomy. Then, we put all the papers in a box and shook it up. The leaders of each group then took 5 papers from the box and returned to their group. We discussed what the verbs were and constructed 5 statements of objectives. Once all the groups had done this, we exchanged our objectives with some other groups and wrote down a description of an activity based on the objectives we got from exchanging with the other group. Finally, we sent all our answers in the telegram group and discussed them with Madam Siti Hajar ' s feedback. I found this activity to be very engaging and helpful in understanding how to apply Bloom ' s Taxonomy in my teaching. I especially liked the way that we were able to work collaboratively with other students to develop our objectives and activities. This helped me to see how different students might approach the same task and to learn from their perspectives. I also appreciated Madam Siti Hajar ' s facilitation of the activity. She was always available to answer our questions and to provide feedback on our work. This helped me to feel confident in my ability to complete the task and to learn from my mistakes. Overall, I found today ' s micro-teaching class to be a valuable learning experience. I learned a lot about Bloom ' s Taxonomy and how to apply it in my teaching. I also developed my skills in working collaboratively with other students. I am grateful for Madam Siti Hajar ' s guidance and support. Evidence:
(13 JULY 2023) - WEEK 2 no pic Today, I learned about set induction, an important part of teaching. It is the process of getting students ' attention, building their interest, and connecting the new lesson to their prior knowledge. There are four strategies for set induction: attention-getting, interest, putting lesson context, and advanced organizer. The attention-getting method captures students ' attention at the beginning of the lesson. The interest method builds students ' interest in the lesson. The putting lesson context method helps students understand the context of the lesson. The advanced organizer provides students with a framework for the lesson. We were asked to develop a set induction for a lesson on "Be wise and think twice." We used a combination of attention-getting, interest, and putting lesson context methods. We believe our set induction was effective because it was creative, relevant, brief, and practiced. We believe it helped to get students ' attention, build their interest in the lesson, put the lesson in context, and provide them with a framework for learning. I found the micro-teaching class on set induction to be very helpful. I learned about the importance of set induction and how to use the four strategies to create effective set inductions. I am confident that I can use this knowledge to improve my teaching skills. Evidence:
(17 JULY 2023) - WEEK 3 Today ' s micro-teaching class was a valuable learning experience. We learned about set induction, which is the process of getting students ' attention at the beginning of a lesson. We also learned about stimulus variation, which is the use of different techniques to keep students ' attention. We learned that stimulus variation is not just about keeping students ' attention, but also about helping them learn more effectively. We also learned about the assessment criteria that we will be using for our mock teaching project. Finally, we learned about the Robert Gagne formula and the 9 events of instruction. I am confident that these learnings will help me to become a more effective teacher. I will use a variety of techniques to keep my students ' attention, such as using different voice tones, facial expressions, and gestures. I will plan my lessons in a way that includes a variety of teaching methods and activities to keep my students engaged. I will use the assessment criteria to evaluate my own teaching and make necessary improvements. I will continue to learn about effective teaching practices and strategies. I am excited to put my learnings into practice in my mock teaching project. I am confident that I will be able to deliver an effective lesson that engages my students and helps them learn. Evidence:
(18 JULY 2023) - ABSENT (19 JULY 2023)- PUBLIC HOLIDAY (20 JULY 2023) - WEEK 3 My goal for the micro-teaching class was to improve my lesson planning and presentation skills. I wanted to create a lesson plan that was engaging and effective, and I wanted to be able to present it clearly and confidently. I felt that I achieved my goals for the lesson plan presentation. I was prepared and organized, and I engaged the audience with my presentation. I received positive feedback from my classmates and instructor. I learned a lot from observing the other groups present their lesson plans. I saw different approaches to teaching speaking and listening skills, and I got some ideas for my own lesson plan. One group used a lot of visuals to help their students understand the material. Another group used a variety of activities to keep their students engaged. I also saw a group that used a flipped classroom approach, where the students watched videos or read articles outside of class and then came to class to discuss the material. I found the micro-teaching class to be a valuable experience. I learned a lot about teaching speaking and listening skills, and I got to see different teaching styles. I am confident that I will be able to use what I learned in this class to improve my own teaching. Evidence:
(24 JULY 2023)- WEEK 4 Madam Nirmala taught a lesson on questioning techniques. The students were divided into two groups and had a Q&A session about the Great Chilean Earthquake. Two of the questions asked were related to Bloom ' s Taxonomy. Madam Nirmala said that future teachers should create such questions for their students because they would help students think critically and relate the concepts to real-life situations. The next topic of discussion was the characteristics of a good question. Madam Nirmala explained that a good question should be clear, concise, relevant, open-ended, and thought-provoking. She also said that when using Bloom ' s Taxonomy, teachers should start with the lowest level of thinking and gradually move to the highest level. Madam Nirmala also discussed the differences between open-ended and closed-ended questions. Open-ended questions allow students to express their own ideas and opinions, while closed-ended questions have a limited number of possible answers. The students enjoyed the lesson and learned a lot about questioning techniques. They are now better equipped to ask questions that will help their students learn and think critically. Evidence:
(25 JULY 2023)- WEEK 4 (no physical class) Due to unavoidable circumstances, today ' s lesson was postponed. Mdm. Nirmala posted a recording of the lesson on Google Classroom. The topic was reinforcement strategies. The first part of the lesson was a question about a case study. We were asked to keep our answers until the end of the lesson. The next part of the lesson introduced five main terms: reinforcement, reinforcers, positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, and punishment. Mdm. Nirmala explained each term with examples. She also talked about the different types of reinforcers that can be used in a classroom setting. Finally, Mdm. Nirmala discussed the differences between reinforcement and punishment. She emphasized that reinforcement is more effective than punishment in encouraging desired behavior. As a future educator, I believe that I would definitely use reinforcement strategies in my classroom. I think it is a more positive and effective way to motivate students. For today ' s task, we were asked to suggest reinforcement strategies that can be applied during physical and online classes. We had to post our findings in a Padlet link. Evidence:
(26 JULY 2023)- WEEK 4 Madam Nirmala conducted today ' s class, which was the presentation day for Lesson Plan 3. All groups presented their lesson plans, and the class also presented Lesson Plan 1 since there was still time left. I enjoyed every group ' s presentation, which was engaging and fun. They used a mounting board with notes, which caught my attention from the start until the end. Madam gave positive and negative feedback on each of the lesson plans presented. The negative feedback was taken into account for future lesson plans. It was a very thoughtful assignment we did that will benefit our future and make us better teachers to consider what is applicable and not when conducting lessons in class. Evidence:
(27 JULY 2023)- WEEK 4(ABSENT) (31 JULY 2023) - WEEK 5 Madam Nirmala was teaching about closure when she was called away by the Dean. She asked the students to find 5 ways of closure in a classroom context. The students completed the task and Madam Nirmala returned to class. She discussed the task with the students and asked them to share their findings. Three students shared their methods. Madam Nirmala summarized the methods that can be used for closure. She also discussed the importance of closure. The students learned that closure can be achieved in a variety of ways. They learned that closure is an important part of the learning process. It helps students to solidify their understanding of the material. It also helps them to make connections between different concepts. The students found the lesson to be informative and helpful. They felt that they had a better understanding of closure. They also enjoyed the opportunity to share their ideas with the class. Overall, the students were happy with the lesson. NO EVIDENCE TAKEN ON THAT DAY Evidence:
(1 AUGUST 2023) - WEEK 5 Madam Nirmala held a lesson on the use of whiteboards in classrooms. She started by asking us about the benefits of using whiteboards. She then explained how to organize lessons on a whiteboard, emphasizing that the working space should not be erased until the lesson is over. Madam Nirmala also showed us how to use different colors and markers to make their lessons more visually appealing. She encouraged me to use the whiteboards to collaborate and work together on projects. We were engaged in the lesson and learned a lot about how to use whiteboards effectively. We really felt that the whiteboards were a valuable tool for learning and that we would be able to use them to improve our own teaching. Next, Madam Nirmala asked us to work in pairs. She had asked to bring a mahjong paper beforehand to the class, and she asked to write anything on it. I paired up with Leka and wrote simple task-topic sentences on the mahjong paper. Madam Nirmala then asked us to stick their mahjong papers on the wall in front of the lecture theater. She commented on each of the writings and told the student that their handwriting was small, and asked them to correct their mistake in the upcoming lessons. She said mine was clear but I could use more words in it. We found the lesson to be informative and enjoyable. We learned a lot about the use of whiteboards in classrooms and also had the opportunity to work with our classmates. We also felt that the lesson helped us to better understand how whiteboards can be used to improve learning. We were particularly interested in the way that whiteboards can be used to encourage collaboration and discussion among students. Evidence:
(2 AUGUST 2023) - WEEK 5 Today, Mdm. Nirmala conducted our class. It was our presentation day for Lesson Plan 5. All groups presented today. Our group presented our lesson plan on Literature in Action. From my group, only Harita, Leka, and I attended the presentation. We used various teaching aids for the presentation. Mdm. Nirmala gave us feedback on the lesson objectives and Activity B. I think we did a good job despite the small amendments. We will take the feedback into account for future lesson plans. I enjoyed today ' s class. Evidence:
(3 AUGUST 2023) - WEEK 5 (ABSENT) (9 AUGUST 2023) - WEEK 6 - Presentation I started my presentation with a set induction activity called " poison box." This activity was a good way to get the students engaged and thinking about the topic of the lesson. It also helped me to assess their prior knowledge of the topic. The main activity of the lesson was a role-play task. This activity was a great way for the students to practice their speaking skills and learn about the different factors to consider when purchasing a product. I think the students enjoyed this activity and it was effective in achieving the learning objectives. I assessed the students ' learning through the role-play task and the star emoji ratings. I think this was a fair and effective way to assess their speaking skills. I wrapped up the lesson by assigning homework. This homework will help the students to further consolidate their learning. Overall, I think the mock teaching presentation went well. I am happy with the way I was able to engage the students and help them to learn about the topic. I am also happy with the way I was able to assess their learning. Evidence: Feedback: Here is a reflection based on the feedback you got from your peers and Madam Nirmala. I appreciate Madam Nirmala ' s feedback on my attire presentation. I will make sure to dress more professionally in the future. I will also avoid referring to myself as a "teacher " to the students. I understand that I am not yet a teacher, and I want to respect the authority of the actual teacher. I will work to maximize my time in set induction in the future. I want to make sure that I am giving the students enough time to get engaged with the activity and to understand the learning objectives. I am glad that my peers were satisfied with my whole presentation. I put a lot of effort into making it engaging and fun, and I am glad that they appreciated it. I will continue to work on improving my teaching skills, and I will use the feedback from my peers and Madam Nirmala to help me grow as a teacher. Moreover, Madam Nirmala ' s feedback is important because she is a more experienced teacher and she has a lot of insights to offer. Her feedback can help me to improve my teaching skills and become a more effective teacher. My peers ' feedback is also important because they are the ones who will be learning from me. Their feedback can help me to understand what they are looking for in a teacher and how I can make the lessons more engaging and effective. Overall, the feedback I received is positive and constructive. It is clear that I am on the right track to becoming a successful teacher. I will keep working hard and be open to feedback, and you will continue to improve.
